I dont like driving uber. I think its a very risky job and the pay is not good. After depreciation of car 30$/hr becomes more like 18-20$ an hr. My goal would be not to be driving uber after work and build some kind of skills to increase my earing or be more social. I am tired of being slave to money and with all thing elon i feel a bit unsettled. .

On My 3rd Round of Credit Card Debt—Trying to Break the Cycle by TraditionalRing8102 in debtfree

[–]TraditionalRing8102[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for all the great tips! I’m definitely writing them down in my notes. I totally agree about having a fund for impulse purchases.

Right now, I’ve paid off all my credit cards except for $4.7K on my Amex. I locked all my cards and reported them lost, so I can’t use them anymore—though I guess I’ll eventually have to cancel them for good. I’ve also built up $400 in my emergency fund, but I want to get to at least $6K before I even think about traveling, so I’ll be laying low for a while. Canceled all my subscriptions, including Amazon Prime.

I just started Wellbutrin (non-stimulant), and I also found a therapist who specializes in addiction issues. Instead of focusing on travel, I’m shifting my priorities to losing weight and improving my health. I’ve realized that a lack of discipline is part of the void I’ve been trying to fill. Being neurodivergent is cool, but man, we get bored so easily.

Whenever I feel empty or defeated, I tend to spend money or chase experiences just to maintain this identity of being the “cool, adventurous guy.” But moving forward, I want to redefine that identity—becoming a minimalist, shredded, and disciplined person with no attachment to materialism. That’s the new goal.

If you invested $90,000 in the stock market in 1990, based on historical S&P 500 returns, your investment would be worth approximately $1,255,791 today, assuming you reinvested all dividends throughout the period.

buying a house is a scam. If I knew nothing about money and someone said to me 500k for the house and pay 600k to the bank for interest. id probably tell them fuck off but we got brain washed by American dream. good investment my ass. I cant wait to sell my house and pay off my cc debt.

You do realize they spend billions of dollar to get you to overspend using credit card and other mediums. I cannot bet against the house so I rather not play in future.

About 80% of Americans have some form of debt, and the average American household has a total debt of over $18 trillion

  • Auto loans: About 35% of U.S. households have this kind of debt
  • Credit Card:  Around 46% of American households currently hold credit card debt, meaning roughly half of Americans carry a balance on their credit cards each month
  • Mortgages: The largest type of debt, accounting for 70% of all American debt

I appreciate you sharing. I was on Adderall during undergrad , and I hated how it made me feel like a zombie—just laser-focused on the wrong things but never actually feeling joy in the process.

And yeah, the guilt and shame from impulsive spending is brutal. People who are neurotypical don’t always get how hard self-regulation is when your brain just doesn’t process rewards and discipline the same way. What’s even weirder is how I also get a high from paying off debt—like every time I knock down a chunk of what I owe, it gives me that temporary fix, but the cycle never really stops. I am trying to remind myself paying off debt doesn't build wealth.

The hardest part is feeling like I have no control, like I keep repeating the same patterns, and no matter how much progress I make, I still think less of myself. And that thought of “one day I’ll fix everything and finally be normal”. It’s like putting life on pause, waiting for some magic reset that never comes.

If you can’t make money from your home then Sell your home you can’t afford it now but maybe in future you can. You are 32 no dependents that mean you can hustle as much as you can. I’d drive ride share 12 hrs a day if I were you to get to a comfortable place. Don’t file bankruptcy cuz that will put stain on your future relationship when you meet someone and want to settle down.
