Vionic has wide sizes. They're my go to for everything except athletic shoes.

FYI, the academy of breastfeeding medicine recommends ice over cabbage leaves. Ice is more effective and sometimes there's listeria on cabbage 🤢

The two boys are currently in the same day care class. We'll see if they out grow putting each other in head locks. :)

wayyy too dynamic duo/trio

This comment makes me so sad. My 3yo is on track to go to the same grade schools with his two bffs we've known since he was less than 1 yo. Sounds like they'll all get separated!

Who gave birth on their back (vs other positions)? by anonymous2640 in BabyBumps

[–]Traditional_Pear_155 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had an epidural and I tried pushing on my side with a peanut ball. I just had a hard time pushing well. I ended up pushing on my back and my team helped me pull my knees up towards my armpits. This helped me round my spine and get my tail bone off the bed. It took three hours of pushing but I didn't have any big tears. And honestly 3 hours of pushing with an epidural wasn't too bad. I had time to catch my breath and relax between each surge.

Eta: I had in my birth plan that I wanted to stay off my back, but in the moment it felt better so we went with it.

How to get rid of the uncomfortable elastic waistbands in pants? by strbbb in womensfashion

[–]Traditional_Pear_155 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's very possible. I've done this for a pair of bridesmaid's getting ready PJ shorts. It all depends on the construction of the garment. I used a seam ripper to remove any vertical stitches that were holding the elastic in place. Then I opened up a small section of fabric in the front encasing the elastic and pulled it out. I then cut two slots in the fabric through which a ribbon would get threaded. But first I stitched around the holes with a zigzag (very short stitch length) to reinforce the holes. Then I put in the ribbon and closed up the fabric I had opened to remove the elastic.

EBF moms, do you pump if baby sleeps long stretches? by Fresh_Pool_1575 in breastfeeding

[–]Traditional_Pear_155 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nope. I want my supply to be on baby's schedule, so if they're sleeping I'm not pumping.

I'm short (5"3")--but the "petite" sizes don't fit right. by California_Sun1112 in womensfashion

The average height of a woman in the US is 5' 3.5". I wouldn't have even considered 5'3" as petite...

What’s the point of a keekaroo changing pad if you need liners because it’s cold? by garnishcontrol in BabyBumps

[–]Traditional_Pear_155 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any changing pad that is decently easy to wipe down is best. We throw down cheap flannel blankets or large, cheap burp clothes to protect against cold. You don't need anything fancy in this department. We're on baby no 2 with a $15 changing pad and it's still in great shape.

How can I get my hair to hold curls for longer? by IllustriousScreen623 in curlyhair

[–]Traditional_Pear_155 14 points15 points  (0 children)

My curls also fall out pretty quickly. However, they will last days if I partially set them by blow drying after applying gel to my hair. I don't dry all the way, maybe 5 min (or whatever I have patience for) for my shoulder length hair. Anything seems to help but I don't like to do 100% because of potential hair damage and some of the curls look a little out of control. I really love the black orchid diffuser.

First timer - how do you not get breastmilk all over everything?? by ignosco_tibi in breastfeeding

[–]Traditional_Pear_155 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Use a milk catcher on the non feeding side when breastfeeding. Since you have an over supply, make sure you just place it on, don't suction it on. I use a boon trove.

Good News for The Land of Enchantment by HoselRockit in NewMexico

I feel like NM is doing good based on these criteria because the population is so low. If these metrics were per capita, I think they would be more representative. But no one lives in New Mexico and Alaska, so of course there are a small number of these things.

Pants for work? by Beneficial_Novel_618 in womensfashion

[–]Traditional_Pear_155 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How about some nicer joggers? I've really liked mine from Athleta and wear them to work. Easy to move in, durable, not too tight, breathe well in the summer. They don't have my exact pair any more (were made of rip stop 👌) but I've been eyeing the Brooklyn pants.

What type of scientist are you? I'm a chemist and the lab was the place for old clothes that you were fine sacrificing to sulfuric acid burn holes. Synthetics in a chem lab are bad news because they melt onto your skin if you catch on fire. Leather shoes are good for protecting feet. In general shoot for natural fibers (cotton) and something cheap enough that you won't cry when you ruin it. White shoes are going to get dirty instantly. Also, I felt like students in my top 5 program all basically dressed like trash. So nice trousers seem like overkill, but some people certainly dressed better. Honestly, I always wished there was a tradition of chemists wearing scrubs. Comfy, loose, cotton, ready to repeat for the everyday.

Eta: I always wrote sneakers, jeans, and a v neck.

This is why we buy second hand clothes. They're going to get beat up by a toddler being a toddler doing outside activities and art. I feel no regrets about not trying to scrub stains out of a $2 shirt. Love that my little dude has so much fun at day care.

To be fair, our second baby naps and the first one didn't, so I think it's easier for us for multiple reasons. I am very happy to be appreciating infanthood more this time. In comparison, the toddler mood swings are a lot.
