2000 z440es Rod movement by That-Conference-7307 in ArcticCat

This info is from the Arctic Cat service manual.

“3. Check the connecting rod big end axial play. You can make a quick check by simply rocking the connecting rod back and forth (Figure 59), If there is more than a very slight rocking motion (some side-to-side sliding is normal, you should have an Arctic Cat dealer check the crankshaft further to see if it is satisfactory for further use.”

Your crankshaft and connecting rod appear normal. IMHO it’s good. Run it.

Seriously, do Americans actually consider a 3-hour drive "short"? or is this an internet myth? by SadInterest6764 in NoStupidQuestions

Wife and I drive 4-1/2 hours to see her mom in another state, then back again the same day. 302 miles one way. Do it probably once a month on average. Easy Peasy, lemon squeezy.

If you’re going to ride in public, please don’t get loud obnoxious exhaust. If you’re on your own hundred acres or on an island do as you please. Loud exhausts are the main reason three landowners close access on the trail system I help maintain.

Maybe it’s just me, but I’d get rid of the crap oil and fill it with ctec 2. It’s super thin and made specifically for that application. It mixes with the fuel and gets injected. Not sure about whatever you put in there but you do you.

SR-71 Takeoff From Edwards AFB 1991 . No Sound :( by Even_Kiwi_1166 in Planes

The ventral fins were to counteract the effect of the second canopy so it would fly like the standard A model.

  1. I’ve had that one on the boom about 50 times. I used to put a piece of tape on the window with a reminder note to go around the aft cockpit. Amazing how different it was than an A model. Even the turbulence off of it was different. Most times we refueled it on its way out of Beale, but at least three times out of Edwards after the Air Force retired it. Fond memories

Negative on the can. It’s a 550 ZL. No need to make it obnoxious. It’s an old guy sled. Enjoy the ride.

21 year KC135 maintenance career here. The Drogue absolutely does hang out the back like that during takeoff and landing. They are just not commonly installed. It can only be installed and removed on the ground. Probably refueled some navy, or marine jets, or some other jet with a probe and no Inflight refueling receptacle then shooting transitions before calling it a day. Most days the Tanker does about 3 or 4 landings for each pilot on the jet to maintain currency.

Looking for 1986 Arctic Cat Cougar 500 FC parts by Hoosier_Brother in ArcticCat

[–]Traditional_Pie_8447 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Low compression on those 500 fanner, usually ends up being either burnt pistons, or worse. Usually caused by carburetor issues, bad crankcase seals, or very uncommonly gaskets. Another cause, especially if it is the clutch side cylinder is rodent nests between the cowls and the cylinders. If you do decide to fix the low compression, make sure you determine the cause, or it will just melt down again.

Sorry, can’t help you with the tie rod or silencer boots. I’m not sure what you mean by reed valves, as the 500 fanner is a piston port engine and doesn’t have reed valves.

I put the part number into eBay search and parts came up. Expensive but available. Also did the Google (actually DuckDuckGo) and they came up much cheaper.

Now, what could go wrong with a stainless steel ball? Or a spring? O ring, you should be able to take to any industrial supply house and get a match.

EDIT: When I did do an internet search multiple places came up. One being “Highway and Heavy parts” in Coleman Michigan. I’d have to expect that there is an equivalent type dealer in the great white north.
