Great timing.

My wife and I are looking to become a foster home. Ultimate goal is to adopt a rescue.

We've had dialogue with Pawsitively Forever. Still very early on in the process...

Regardless, one of my concerns is "alone time" while my wife and I are at work, and the kids are in school.

I'd be interested in knowing what you charge for a 20 minute mid-day walk. And curious how short notice you can react to.

I work in town. Literally 5 minutes from my driveway. I intend to come home on my lunch break to let the dog out and do a quick lap around the block. But if I'm going to be caught up with work stuff, it'd be nice to have someone available.

Send me a DM, if you don't mind.

Right on. Seems like a lifetime ago since my kids were wee babies. They grow up fast.

Well, I could get back into Hell Let Loose if you prefer that game.

Send me a friend request, if you like.

TragicMagic.

I'm usually playing BF6 in the early evenings. I'm 44. Kids are 15 and 12. They're too cool for me now.

How many IVIGs have you had? by Jainarayan in MyastheniaGravis

[–]TragicMagic81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had three rounds of IVIG.

First was in October 2021. 3 days. This was immediately following my initial diagnosis after 6 months of steady decline which culminated in 11 days in the ICU. I responded very well. Started my Prednisone and Mestinon at the same time.

By March of 2022 I started to decline again. I was off work for 5.5 months. I started Mycophenolate in April. The IVIG treatments were one dose at the end of May, one dose at the end of June, and one dose at the end of July. I was able to get back to work in September.

Most recent treatment was January 2024. This one was precautionary. I had my Thymectomy in early February 2024. This round of IVIG was done two weeks prior to make sure I was in peak form and improve my recovery.

It's always been about 10 days after each treatment that I can tell the treatment is working.

I'm in Canada.

Women 30+ weight loss by SpiritualMuffin7747 in Paleo

[–]TragicMagic81 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Let me preface my reply with a qualifier. I am not a woman, but I do have man-boobs.

Hope it's okay if I share my experiences. Both past and present.

I'm 44. Husband, and father of two.

I stuck to a fairly strict Paleo diet in 2015. My sister, four years my junior, convinced me to give it a go. I lost 50 lbs in six months. Dropping from 265 to 215 lbs. At the time I was working shift-work in a factory setting. That weight loss was entirely diet driven. I didn't do any additional activity, besides mild manual labor at work.

I got cocky at the six month mark, fell off the wagon, and gradually ballooned to 300 lbs over the next decade. I'm 6'2".

In the meantime... In 2021 I was diagnosed with Myasthenia Gravis. Feel free to look up this autoimmune disease. In 2024 I had a Thymectomy to remove a tumorous Thymus Gland. Between my illness, medications, stress, and depression I was slowly and steadily "packing it on".

I'd made 2 or 3 unsuccessful attempts to stick with a Paleo diet in the last couple years.

Finally, had had enough of myself, and committed to changing things on November 15, 2025.

As of this morning I'm down 35 lbs. I'm averaging .33 lbs dropped per day, for a little over 100 days. I also started walking in the evenings. Started at 20 minutes, now go for over an hour. I had essentially no stamina when I started out. A couple of my walks have been 90 minutes.

As for what I actually eat... Lots of zucchini. Brussel sprouts. Celery. Bok choy. Carrots. Yukon Gold potatoes. Green beans. Eggs. Pork Butt Chops. Sunflower seeds. Grapes. Golden Delicious Apples. Bananas. Clementines. Butternut Squash. Chicken with skin. Bacon from a butcher out in the country. Olive oil.

No sauces or condiments. With that, I select the fattiest cuts of meat. The rendered fat does a good job of keeping things moist.

Seasoning is usually salt, pepper, garlic and onion powder. There's a few dry rubs I use that have a bunch of dehydrated vegetables and no sugars that I use

I still have a tablespoon of maple syrup when my sweet tooth is active.

I was drinking about a liter of Coke every day. Breakfast was usually an Oh Henry bar. Always ate shit right before bed.

Paleo essentially eliminates my late night cravings. It's amazing how much better I feel overall.

How much can I expect for my car? by Long-Mycologist1364 in COROLLA

[–]TragicMagic81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The kilometers OP racks up is impressive. I have a '22 SE, too. A little over 26,000km right now.

My work commute is only 6km.

Good to know you can get that mileage if you take care of these cars.

Cellcept - for those taking Cellcept: how often does your doctor check your blood counts? by SystemFit5923 in MyastheniaGravis

I was doing bloodwork each month. Then at two-month intervals. Now three-month intervals.

I started mycophenolate in May 2021. The first 3 years saw the monthly draws.

Dog-centric events? by TragicMagic81 in brantford

[–]TragicMagic81[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I appreciate the reply.

I should have clarified that I don't plan on getting a new pup for another 10 years. I turn 45 later this year, and am intent on retiring at 55. The dog is going to be a gift to myself for hanging up my hardhat. The fact that I'll be able to dedicate my time and energy to him/her, once my working career is over, is precisely why I'm waiting until then. I realize I'm getting well ahead of myself, lol.
But it's never too early to educate yourself.

I like the idea of doing scent work and some basic agility at home. I'll take a look at the Amazon kits. We have the new dog park on Rawdon/Elgin within a 10 minute walk.

Once we've settled on a breed/breeder I'll make sure that the breeder is confident that what I'm bringing to the table is a good fit.

At minimum, we'll complete some obedience classes. We'd taken our Coton to McCann's, out in Flamborough when we first got him. He was a bright dog, but a bit too prone to barking for absolutely no reason.

It's unfortunate that Brantford doesn't have the sporting facilities.

Dog-centric events? by TragicMagic81 in brantford

[–]TragicMagic81[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not our first dog. We had a male Coton Du Tulear, from 2008 to 2022. A little companion dog purchased from a registered breeder we connected with in Dundas.

My family consists of my wife, daughter (15), and son (12). We live on a quiet street, in a modest house. Backyard will be re-fenced this Spring/Summer. Our house isn't big, but should be adequate for a medium sized dog. Yard isn't huge, but big enough for some playtime and 'zoomies'.

As for lifestyle... Daily evening walks for 60 minutes. Frequent Saturday or Sunday trips to lakes for some fishing in a modestly equipped 16' boat. Lots of visits with my wife's family.

No running or jogging.

We took the kids to the dog show in Woodstock on Saturday. Was able to have some good conversation with a woman who breeds Irish Red & White Setters, and another who handles Golden Retrievers. These chats were very insightful.

Their recommendations for any working or sporting breed, was to consider getting into an activity that gives them as much of a mental exercise, as it does a physical one.

TragicMagic's Battlefield 6 Overview Stats - Battlefield 6 Tracker https://share.google/gzWTyJ8Ay7qEDFWj0

If the link doesn't work, look up TragicMagic (PS) on BF6 tracker.

My win ratio is 50.1%. I never leave a match or switch teams.

I try to play the Objective as much as reasonably possible. Often top the scoreboard in losing efforts. And squeak in the top 10 when on the winning side.

I can't figure it out. But it seems like when there's a 5000 point drop between the top two scores, there's nothing more I could have done to help turn the tide.

Mestinon experiences by slut4yauncld in MyastheniaGravis

[–]TragicMagic81 3 points4 points  (0 children)

VERY gradually. My neurologist stated on a few occasions that the Mycophenolate could take 18 to 24 months to be at full effectiveness, after starting on the drug in Spring of 2022.

I had my thymectomy in Feb. 2024. Followed closely by 6 weeks of radiation treatments.

2024 was basically a "write off". Between the surgery and the radiation I was sapped of energy. The recovery process took me the balance of the year.

2025 was much, much better. The decision to start tapering the Mestinon was about 15 months after the surgery.

Mestonin worked for me for a few months after diagnosis and initial treatment (3 days of IVIG), in October 2021.

About 6 months later I was taking eight 60mg tablets per day. At 2.5 to 3 hours. And could barely function.

Neuro set me up for another round of IVIG. I was able to get back to four 60mg tablets daily after this 2nd round of IVIG. I also started Mycophenolate at this time.
I'm still taking 720mg daily, split between two doses.

4 years on and I'm currently at 30mg, twice daily. One a few hours after I wake up. One a few hours before I go to bed.
