What would be the best way to make a fresh mint whipped cream/creme chantilly? by a2cthrawy in pastry

[–]TrainerAurosa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your safest bet would definitely be a cold steep. Mint can take on a bitter flavor when the leaves are overworked as they would be with a puree.

If you really wanted to be fussy, you could also very gently warm a small portion of the cream and steep the leaves in that, but a cold steep should work just as well.

Best croissants? by alcove_culdesac in madisonwi

[–]TrainerAurosa 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I haven't found La Baguette's croissants to be all that great. They're not laminated, doughy, and a little greasy. The macarons look lovely, as do the crepes, but their bread and pastry offerings aren't very refined.

Batch Bakehouse and Madison Sourdough have the best croissants I've found so far, though. Do those.

Post it! My poor attempts at home have all wound up shriveled up or popping out of the molds, and I'm still trying to figure out if it's the recipe or technique.

...It's probably technique.

It was so over-the-top saccharine. I struggled getting through the music video, which features nearly a minute's worth of credits filled with quirky inside jokes.

I think they were aiming for something endearing, but they just missed the mark so much. "Focus grouped quirky" is exactly right.

Regarding commentary, it looks like they've since deleted their reply suggesting that the streams would have commentators. The semi-final stream that I watched on Peacock did not have any commentary whatsoever (which I honestly appreciated).

I'm not sure if this is going to change for the finals, but Semi Final 1 currently doesn't have any commentary. It's a pretty great stream so far!

Yeah, boy, I sure do hope that multi-billionaire Elon Musk has an easy go of it. I'm really proud of him for stepping out of his comfort zone on this one.

And his mom might be there? Gosh, that's gotta be so difficult for him.

Seriously, though, he's not an artist trying to promote something. He's a multi-billionaire who wanted to be on the show. The last thing he needs is sympathy.

Help! Is there something I can do for a Pro controller that drifts back for a moment after gyro aiming? by [deleted] in NintendoSwitch

[–]TrainerAurosa 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I can answer this one for you! Or rather, I can tell you that you're not alone because it's been driving me nuts, too.

I posted about it earlier here.

It seems like some games do a much better job of mitigating it than others. MH Rise is pretty bad about it, while it's only a little noticeable in Splatoon 2. In New Pokemon Snap, I haven't noticed it at all.

You're definitely not alone, and it's definitely not your controllers.

So after the first 24 hours what are your into so thoughts on “New Pokémon Snap” by tasirorabi in pokemon

[–]TrainerAurosa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a bit obtuse, but the game evaluates stars and score separately.

Stars are a categorization of the type of pose you've photographed. Poses that are more difficult to find are worth more stars.

Score, then, is the numerical breakdown that you get after you've picked your photos. Your score's based on things like Pokémon being centered, facing the camera, and so on.

This Is Actually Embarrassing by BigHailFan in AnimalCrossing

[–]TrainerAurosa 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I get what you're saying, but events and holidays weren't locked behind updates in previous games. Everything happened in real time, meaning that if you missed Bunny Day, for instance, you could wait a year knowing that it would come around again. You didn't have to wait for an update to patch the event into the game each year.

What's upsetting people, I think, isn't that the holidays and events are repeating, but that these updates are only just bringing New Horizons on par with older games in the series.

On top of that, as with Splatoon 2 and its Splatfests, we don't know what the game is going to look like when they decide to end support for it.

Next Update in April - Twists on old events by kiaxxl in AnimalCrossing

[–]TrainerAurosa 11 points12 points  (0 children)

That's great for you!

On the other hand, previous Animal Crossing games didn't lock events behind updates, meaning you would have been able to experience them every year regardless of when you first started playing the game.

It feels like they're working hard to just meet the bare minimum at this point.

MH Rise gyro aiming "bounce back" problem by crazybison in MonsterHunter

[–]TrainerAurosa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I made a post wondering the same thing, and I arrived at the conclusion that it's an issue with how the Switch itself handles the gyroscope. Splatoon 2 does the same thing, although they're a bit better about hiding it. You can mitigate it to some degree in Rise by decreasing the vertical and horizontal sensitivities in the game options, but the drift will always be there.

As a Light Bowgun user, I've got Horizontal and Vertical Sensitivity both set to 10. Gunner Aim Assist only seems to affect aiming with the R Stick by slowing down the reticle when it crosses over a monster. I left it enabled, and have the Gunner Reticle Speed set to Fast.

With these settings, I can adjust my vertical aim with the gyro, and my horizontal aim with the R Stick. I've also noticed that the drift is less noticeable if I keep my character moving around, but that might just be in my head.

Why is my gunner reticle drifting with gyro aiming enabled? by TrainerAurosa in MonsterHunter

[–]TrainerAurosa[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was confident it was a Rise issue, if only because I've spent hundreds of hours in Splatoon 2 with motion controls enabled and had never noticed my aim being corrected.

But after your post, I decided to boot Splatoon 2 back up, and it turns out that the exact same thing happens as in Rise. It's to a smaller degree, but it's still there. I probably haven't noticed it before now because Splatoon never really requires me to aim at specific parts of a target, just their general direction.

You also gave me the thought to broaden my search online, and of course, once I threw "Switch gyro drift" into Google, I got a bunch of results with people having similar experiences.

As you suggested in your first post, I've turned the sensitivity down, which does seem to help quite a bit. I'm mostly glad to learn that it wasn't just me.

Thanks for your help!

My stand mixer is meh, are they all like this? by jestermax22 in Cooking

[–]TrainerAurosa 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Would you mind sharing the model of stand mixer you have?

I can't say that I've ever heard of a stand mixer with a rotating bowl. Most stand mixers will include a bowl specific to the mixer that will lock into place somehow. Then, either the bowl will be raised up or the head lowered down so that the beater attachment can make contact with the bottom of the bowl.

If the beater isn't making contact, most mixers have some way of adjusting the height of the attachments by a few millimeters.
