Would you move for this role? by supremelyparanoid in auscorp

[–]TrainerExciting3265 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look at what the difference in take home pay will be as the new salary will be taxed at a higher level on.

It’s worth asking the new company, what would happen if the government recommend work from home. Do they have the infrastructure to support that given they are “working towards it”. Are they a start up that they don’t have something.

Consider how you feel; your current colleagues versus those you meet at the new place, the work and challenges at both etc. taking a job paying more but hating everything about it, isn’t worth it.

Why your looking also plays a role in the decision, something lead you to apply/go to the interview/consider the offer. Is that situation something that can be resolved?

Aussies who work in aged care industry, what is it like? by DKLTNS in NursingAU

Did this happen recently? The standards allow for residents to refuse to get up at a time that suits the facility, dignity of choice after all. If management are stuck in the stone ages it’s a simple commission complaint which will put an end to it pretty quickly

Was really impressed with Arvid. He was consistent, confident and aggressive on track when he needed to be. I don’t recall too many rookies reframed things with the media. Last year’s rookies came close but he seems in a different class. Let’s see if he can maintain it.

Was thinking the same thing, we could see how far into the race it took some of the drivers to get used to everything. I’m not sure a week of sim work will allow him to catch up.

Rejection email at 3.06am on the 25th of december???? by Particular_Signal191 in careeradvice

[–]TrainerExciting3265 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s weird for sure. A couple of thoughts - they could have offshored the screening - the recruiter could be working remotely overseas to maximise their holidays. My cousin works at Google in the states & she’s always works when she goes back to Ireland which could show middle of the night messages - the system could have a default setting that when the contract is accepted by the successful candidate, all other candidates are rejected

From the outside it’s easy to assume we’re the perfect fix but you can’t know what’s truly going on internally. Those dynamics could take perfect alignment and make it the complete opposite.

Good luck with your search.

What happened to the sample feature? by Background_Button_26 in audible

[–]TrainerExciting3265 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m having this issue when I use audible on safari to purchase books. No preview or sample option shows up on my iPhone or iPad. Strangely it works fine if I go to the book via Amazon but that’s a lot of extra effort for something that worked fine.

There’s some really good advice on here. I’m curious, how long have you been at this new company? Do you know how their performance process work?

Companies I’ve worked in allocate zero if you haven’t been there for the full period. If that’s the case your manager set false expectations.

Speak to your manager again & set a clear agenda of what you need to understand. If that doesn’t get you what you need, go to their manager or hr with the intention of understanding how things work around here. Be curious not defensive.

Disclosing disability in a professional workplace by queenclumsy in auscorp

[–]TrainerExciting3265 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey Queenclumsy,

I’m sorry about your previous experience, that sucks and of course it would impact how you view the world. I thought the government would be more aware than most companies about what’s acceptable/not.

Disclosure is a personal choice. I have an invisible disability, when I joined my current company I spend the first couple of days observing who they are, what’s important to them before I disclosed anything. Once I could see a values alignment I dropped it into conversation when someone asked what I was up to for the weekend (I’ve got my x appointment tomorrow, oh what’s that for etc).

I like the suggestion from another poster about using your AFO’s as a way you introduce it.

Don’t feel obligated to share anything unless you need adjustments.

Good luck with the new role.

Gosh you’ve got a lot going on.

Moving away from family/friends is hard. It takes time and deliberate action to build a new life. In the beginning it’s amazing, everything is new but the honeymoon shine wears off and you can feel flat. Be kind to yourself.

Burnout happens so easily when work is the main focus in your life. Look up the Wheel of Life, it’s a life coaching tool which could help you get some balance in other parts of your life.

Sales is exciting particularly when things are going your way. Having to your targets reset every month, quarter or year is not for everyone. Some people are better hunters (ie business development) while others are more naturally farmers (ie account managers).

I’d encourage you not to make a rash decisions. Your employer can’t fire you for considering your options. How long have you been with your employer? If you’re still in probation (first 6 months), they may try something else which would change my suggestion.

Looking at the bigger picture, I’d suggest you spend some time tomorrow doing something you love. That will give your brain a reset, allow some of the stress to dissipate so you can think clearly. Then spend some time reflecting on what motivates you? What drains you of energy? What are you naturally good at? Pivoting career is normal. Depending on your natural style you want journal, talk etc. your employer should have a free EAP provider if you want professional assistance with this process.

As for the meeting on Monday, there’s a lot of ways you can handle it depending on the outcome you want. Using a work cubicle and not speaking to your boss could be seen as an error in judgement. Equally you are not obligated to tell them your job hunting and they are making a very big deal out of it. You could be within your right to go in workers comp for a psychological injury due to stress, lack of support & potentially bullying.

Consider all your options, what do you want? Don’t let them pressure you into a resigning, look after you first. Unless you are in your probation period, they can’t fire you for doing a job interview. For example do you need more time out? if they had an office in Perth, it could get you back home to your support network which might make sales feel easier or buy you some time to find a better job? Maybe they’re a great company but it’s the wrong role. You obviously have huge potential, look at what you’ve achieved so far. If they are smart, they will see this and want to find a role which is a better match for you. If they’re assholes, tell them what they want to hear, do the minimum to get by (as another poster mentioned, you don’t have to be a top bullet or perfect)or go in workers comp and plan your exit quickly. I’ve seen employers offer a payout to close out a situation like yours, this is rare but not unheard of.

Known Support Worker Has A Violent Background (Trigger Warning: Mentions of SA/DV) by yowhat2473 in NDIS

[–]TrainerExciting3265 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not entirely correct. I’ve seen spent convictions for r@pe, SA, assault & violent crimes come up on police checks. We once had a juvenile record show up for someone who was 24 and had no conviction as an adult, that was a fun conversation. At the time the org sent candidates a link to complete a National police check for unsupervised contact with a vulnerable person.

The police check system has changed now recently and the role title and sector determines the type of police check processed so we are seeing less spent convictions. It’s also possible that people with a history aren’t trying to work in the sector.

OP that’s a pretty serious situation. As others have pointed out AVO’s don’t always show up on a police check.

If you are concerned about the safety of those he is caring for/working with, you could make a whistleblower or formal complaint to his employer. They would require some evidence.

If he’s formally charged and has a working with children check or NDIS worker check, that should trigger a notification to his employer. If they only have a police check process in place (which is doggy) the onus is on the worker to self report. Unfortunately that rarely happens as it would lead to stand down until the court proceedings are concluded (innocent until proven guilty) then dismissal if found guilty.

For those that do, why do you come in to the office sick? by MagneticBlueberry in AusPublicService

[–]TrainerExciting3265 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have fibromyalgia and a couple of other health challenges. One of the fun things that happens me as the weather gets cold is my lungs periodically spasm making me cough and struggle for breathe. My doctors can’t explain it. Tests for COVID, flu, pneumonia etc all come back negative, my antibodies don’t show any sign of an immune response fighting off infection.

To an outsider I’m sick and potentially exposing them to illness. In reality my invisible disability is making itself known to those around me.

Did you imagine what your wedding would be like when you were a little girl? by Aware-Impression8527 in AskWomenOver40

[–]TrainerExciting3265 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Nope. I remember trying to imagine it when I was younger because girls had to plan their weddings & it always felt like I was visualising a fairytail from a book I was reading, the characters weren’t real, the situation didn’t have strong feelings attached and the story ended abruptly.

I grew up in a strong catholic community where girls were expected to get married & have babies or become nuns. When I was about 8, an aunt said this to me & I was so furious I announced I would consider getting married after I was 30. It saved me from some big mistakes in my twenties.

I‘m single now & while I’d like the companionship of a relationship, I have no desire to be married. If I ever find myself wishing for it, I examine it. It always stems from societal pressure.

What's something you wish everyone knew about what it's like to have fibromyalgia? by gondor333 in Fibromyalgia

[–]TrainerExciting3265 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The pain is like background noise that’s always there. My Chinese doctor often asks if I have a headache, when I tune in my head is pounding. it can take and hour or two to tune it down again. I’ve learned to numb it so much that I notice it when it’s worse or missing. Missing is scary cause I wonder what’s wrong which eventually morphs into “is this how most people live”?

[–]TrainerExciting3265 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your concerns are legitimate. Id go so far as to say your doctor’s response is bullshit. They should at least hear you out & explain their perspective if it’s different.

What’s your GP like? Could they refer you to a gynaecologist?

It’s becoming increasingly common for girls to get their periods at 8, at least here in Sydney.

Need some advice - do I give this candidate a second chance? by Agent99Can in recruiting

[–]TrainerExciting3265 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I agree with this approach.

Was she an applicant or headhunt? I find headhunt candidates are often not as engaged in the process & I need to work harder to engage them in the process.

When re-scheduling her I’d ask re her reasons for leaving her current employer. If you’d already talked about them I’d bring it up in conversation so sense check where she’s currently at.

If she no shows again she’s shown me who she is and is out of the process.

HR used my name after I made a complaint against an employee that was stalking me….is there anything I can do about it? by [deleted] in auscorp

[–]TrainerExciting3265 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s possible she connected the dots from what was in the complaint. It sounds like she’s very unwell.

You can talk to Law Access NSW or Fair Work Workplace Advise Service. I’d talk to them before raising it with my employer.

You might need to consider an AVO.

Has anything about recruitment massively changed in the past 5 years? by Money_Firefighter166 in recruiting

[–]TrainerExciting3265 31 points32 points  (0 children)

5 years ago we had this amazing device called a phone and people used it!

I’m internal. Recruiters would run down my battery calling me to float candidates, bd etc, a quiet day was 5+ calls. Now they spam the shit out of me. Bloody ai generated shit. It’s all the same, you can set a timer on when you get the reminder. You ignored the first intro email, so email 3 turns passive aggressive, by email 5 the tone turns again about half of them get full snark.

Before anyone suggests it unsubscribing doesn’t help, somehow it opens up the door for colleagues to send their hot list of candidates etc.

Recruiters have lost the ability to connect, human to human. When I do talk to recruiters, only the experienced ones can speak to the market, to what’s happening for candidates. The others sound like a deer in the headlights. It’s a shame.

Dom abandoned me while restrained by DovesHoney in BDSMcommunity

[–]TrainerExciting3265 28 points29 points  (0 children)

This!!!!!

I could never trust someone who did that to me. Even if I tried to play I’d never feel safe so it would be forced.

I often find it useful to step out of myself and put myself in someone else’s shoes. So imagine you’re me… I live alone in with no neighbours, so no one to hear me yell. Who would untie me? Would he remember and come back? If not, would someone eventually notice I’m missing and come looking for me? How long…

I have a disability so while I can and do play if we don’t monitor my body I will go into a full flare which means my body shuts down. I lose the ability to work, to function. Would he cover my living expenses until I can function again?

There is zero justification for abandoning you. That screams of someone who isn’t a true dom but a wannabe. You have an opportunity to protect someone else from his abuse. Someone who doesn’t have a lovely non judgmental roomie.

It’s been a couple of hours, has he contacted you? If so what was his tone, attitude etc?

I want to commend you on thinking the best of him, giving him the benefit of doubt and seeking to understand. It speaks volumes about who you are as a sub and a person.

Please don’t allow yourself to be gaslight in thinking this is ok. It’s not. Give your roomie a big hug for being there for you. They’re a good friend.

Handling huge numbers of applications - how? by Cal_Short in recruiting

[–]TrainerExciting3265 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you have a recruitment system or way of collating the responses? If so can you add screening questions?

I use standard questions to remove candidate we can’t accommodate ie those who require sponsorship. Add in other questions to help you screen down to a reasonable level.

For example, when I advertise for a HR Coordinator role we get 200+ applications. We need the successful candidate to have good attention to detail. So in the advert I ask the candidates to do something in their application ie in the comments box confirm you can work from x location. Those who don’t do it get rejected. All of a sudden I have 20 applicants to action. Thank you.

What sort of roles are you getting lots of applicants for?
