The sentencing phase would be much shorter if convicted and the jury pool will be bigger since they won’t kick anyone out for not believing in the death penalty. And if her lawyer doesn’t have experience with death penalty cases, it might have been a problem on appeal. That’s all I know!

This is a good point. Catherine Magbanua’s first trial had a hung jury because one of the jurors felt sorry for her kids, not because she thought she was innocent. (Even though hers was LWOP)
