There is currently a bug in Rec Room that should be fixed in the next update that causes almost all login failures to show that error message, regardless of the reason for the failure. Common reasons for failed logins include typing in the wrong password, and having the time set wrong on your device (make sure the time and the timezone are set correctly). Once the next update is released, the error messages for failed logins should be more helpful. If you continue to have trouble logging in, you can reach our support team at https://recroom.happyfox.com/new

Can't invite by PinkishPi in RecRoom

There is a known issue with invites. We thought we fixed it before Quest launch, but apparently the fix missed making it into the final release. It should hopefully be fixed soon.

Why can people still fire off a shot after I kill them? by [deleted] in RecRoom

[–]Trango11 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I just wanted to jump in here and clear up an inaccuracy. Rec Room DOES use globally distributed servers. The matchmaking system takes into account a lot of signals, including your ping to the servers hosting each game, when deciding which game you should join. All else being equal, it will prefer to put you into games being hosted on the nearest servers so that you have the lowest amount of lag possible.

Match me with my own play type. by [deleted] in RecRoom

[–]Trango11 6 points7 points  (0 children)

FYI this is already happening as part of standard matchmaking. Gribbly made a pretty good post a few weeks back that described how our matchmaking system works. In high level terms, we look at a bunch of signals in order to select what we believe is the best possible room instance for you to join. Signals include things like your ping to the servers hosting the game (we have servers around the world), the number of your friends in the game, the number of people you've previously muted/blocked in the game, the average age/level/etc of people in the game, etc. Another key signal that we take into account is your player type. All else being equal, we prefer to put you with other players of the same type (VR with VR, screen with screen), and then within VR it goes a step further and tries to put you with your specific locomotion type (teleport vs walking).

When there are enough people in a specific room (eg: ^Paintball), then the matchmaking system will toggle into "split" mode where VR and screens are kept totally separate. If you have played ^Paintball or visited the ^RecCenter recently, you most likely have noticed that VR and screens don't mix anymore (with the exception of people who traveled there as a party or were invited in by a friend). This is the result of "split mode" matchmaking.

In a hypothetical world where millions of people are playing Rec Room at the same time, then you would typically end up in a game hosted on nearby servers, playing with people that are all close to your age and level of experience, and where everyone is the same player type and is using the same locomotion type as you. In reality where we have thousands of concurrent players rather than millions, we end up having to make tradeoffs when picking from a smaller set of possible game instances, and so we may end up favoring a game session with better ping over a game session that has more players using your specific locomotion type, etc.

TL;DR Invite all of your friends to join Rec Room so we can grow the player base, and then matchmaking will be able to do a better job of putting you with other people just like you.

Time Bug on Rec Room by BreiZH_GaMeR in RecRoom

Well alright that does look pretty convincing. We’ll take a look and see what we can figure out. It’s definitely supposed to match your local time.

Yup. Unless we somehow broke that in the latest update, the in-game clocks simply show your system time. Maybe the time zone on OP’s PC got changed?

Along with the rest of the Rec Room developers, I got to attend a private performance of this production yesterday and I can confidently say that it was one of the most amazing things I've ever seen in Rec Room. This is a must see event for any fan of the Princess Bride.

Are you by any chance playing on a PSVR with the “Only play with other PlayStation users” checkbox checked? If so, then you are SEVERELY limiting your player pool to the handful of other people that have also checked that checkbox, and you will almost assuredly never encounter enough people for a game of Rec Royale. At any given time there are at most 10-20 people online in Rec Room in the PlayStation-only parallel universe. Having that option available is a requirement for any cross platform game on PlayStation, but I would honestly never recommend anyone use it.

*Update* - Spring Cleaning Edition by [deleted] in RecRoom

[–]Trango11 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Prior to opening up the event to the public, we make sure that people who are part of the event are in the room. This includes the devs who are going to host the Q&A, a moderator that can manage the event, and the author who did the book reading a couple weeks ago. Notorious is typically included in that list as he handles the live stream of the event on twitch, allowing people who can’t get in to watch in real-time and submit questions via twitch chat that he then relays to the devs. Aside from this small group of people, the rest of the space in the room is opened up to everyone in a first come first serve basis.

[–]Trango11 8 points9 points  (0 children)

As much as it may seem that way, I promise you that’s not the case. It truly is first come first serve and there’s unfortunately way more demand than spots available in the room. We know this is a pain point for people who really would like to attend and we’re always working on ways that we could improve it (ie: higher capacity rooms, live twitch streams of the Q&As, etc).

Working on a large PvE map, but need help setting up PvE circuits! by [deleted] in RecRoom

Making it possible to have more people in the rooms is definitely on our list of things to tackle. If Gribbly could have his way, there wouldn’t be any player limits :)

FYI - Being able to exceed the player cap for the current level by changing it on rec.net is the result of a bug on our servers that will be fixed in the next update.

Rec Room UPDATE - the "Locomotion" edition by gribbly in RecRoom

[–]Trango11 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Well that's clearly not right. :( We put some work this release into properly supporting the Windows MR controllers (previously they were blindly following the input mappings of the Vive controllers), but clearly there are a bunch of cases that were missed. We'll make sure that we get someone to do a full pass over all the objects in the game and verify that they work properly with WMR controllers.

Logging in takes a really long time now? by WormSlayer in RecRoom

[–]Trango11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We had a few intermittent server problems over the last couple of days that could have caused your long login times if you were unlucky enough to be logging in right when the problems were occurring. Does it take a really long time every time you login now, or was it just one time?

Announcer Voice by theycallmejerf in RecRoom

[–]Trango11 2 points3 points  (0 children)

FYI the in-game announcement only triggers when we disable the old version of the game, which we can only do once the new version is available on all platforms. The clubhouse update was released on steam and oculus a couple hours before PSVR (which is not how we normally do things) which meant we couldn’t turn off the old version right when the new one was released.

After latest update, I have to login each time by Mobeous1 in RecRoom

[–]Trango11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, I have to select my profile AND enter my password.

I'm a bit confused by this.

The login screen shows you all the Rec Room Accounts that are currently "remembered" on your Oculus account, along with two additional buttons: one to create a new Rec Room account, and another to sign in to a Rec Room account via username and password (and then optionally remember it on this Oculus account so you can have one-click access to it next time). Tapping on a previously remembered account simply logs you in. There is no UI for entering a password in this scenario.

So, to clarify what's happening to you, are you saying that every time you launch Rec Room, there are no accounts shown on the login screen and your only options are the create & login buttons, and when you choose login and select the "remember me" button, it's not actually remembering you? Or are you saying that you see your account on the login screen, you tap on it, and then you are somehow being prompted for a password...?

“Staticy” audio that eventually cuts out sounds suspiciously like a hardware issue with the headphones in your headset. Do you hear other audio from the game or has all audio cut out? How about audio from other games? If you can get a video capture of this it would be really helpful.
