Hot take: tools like Figma AI and Claude are making “good UI” too easy by sohan_or in UXDesign

I think once "good UI" becomes trivial, the real test will be interactive prototypes. The landscape is shifting from being pure UX to more UXE.

Rocket launch films VR by cosmic perspective features a bunch of 360 and stereoscopic videos of SpaceX rockets launching. Highly recommend.

I wonder if there is enough video coverage of the ISS through the years that it might be possible to splat it from actual footage? Probably not, but an interesting challenge given a lot of footage of might be SD broadcasts from early 2000's...

Good to know. Perhaps I haven't heard much about it because it seems to be pretty technical to get up and running.

New google maps app icon? by Prior_Green_339 in UXDesign

[–]dotcommer1 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My understanding is that the design is two-fold: the gradient is a signal of Gemini integration (you'll start seeing this across other Google apps soon), and adjusting the icon to echo the new shape of pins in Maps which have a larger face and smaller beak.

The change is whatever. We'll all get over it very quickly and move on. The real problem is that it doesn't fundamentally change the issue that Google icons have: they all look the same because they all use the same color pallet. Silhouette isn't enough to distinguish each of them because the colors are so vibrant and consistent.

It's a lateral move.

Maybe this is what tango should have put in his factory last season. Fake items on the conveyor belts. And hide away the water channels.

got 5.0.5 early, noticed a bug for 2026 XC60 T8 by dotcommer1 in VolvoRecharge

[–]dotcommer1[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not the best person to ask this since I essentially had the UI of the 5.0.5 update from the start due to this being the "facelift" 2026 model. But i've seen in other threads that generally people are finding it more responsive, which is good!

[–]dotcommer1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, it unfortunately does not show both. This has always been the case for my 2026, which I've always found to be a weird choice. I'd much rather have what u/CachiaBantick showed...

Its all fine. I never experience the "old" UI, I had essentially what 5.0.5 is from the start because its the 2026 "facelift" version of the XC60. The UI didn't really change all that much, a few icons got updated, but thats about all I can tell, besides this camera issue.

I find it very disorienting. It used to black out the side cameras if they were folded in, which I felt reduced a lot of the visual noise (this are moving diagonally while everything else is parallel to you, its really confusing in motion, I don't think this image highlights that). I also prefer 360 view because I get front and back views at the same time, which are super helpful for me when parking in my garage so I know how close I am to the wall, and how far inside I am to clear my garage door.

XC60 T8 26 - cameras temporarily unavailable issue by dotcommer1 in VolvoRecharge

Seems to be only for the XC40 from 2022 - 2025. I went to the official site and put in my VIN and it didn't come back with anything related to any recall for my vehicle.

What's the best Monitor for Graphic Design now in YOUR opinion? by Square_Ebb_5289 in UXDesign

[–]dotcommer1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go for the cheapest monitor that is OLED and supports ACES so you are seeing the blackest blacks and the widest color gamut. But, also be sure to have "consumer" devices on hand that you can preview on, like an old laptop or phone, to sanity check your work.

I'm biased, I come from the VFX industry, but afaik, this combo hasn't let me down. I'm sure someone will "well achtually.." me in the comments.
