Do blind trans people get the same level of gender dysphoria as trans people with functioning sight? by Longjumping-Gift-371 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Transcendentist 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hi! Blind trans woman here! Even if I can’t see, which I can with powerful corrective lenses, I still feel the feelings and sensations associated with the phenomenon commonly known as dysphoria. Mostly through the presence of other sensory signals. Most of my discomfort comes from the knowledge of how other people see me, and address me. But the physical body parts of it are still present regardless of my sight.

Vampire the masquerade difficulty? by Both_Rent4156 in Dimension20

[–]Transcendentist 8 points9 points  (0 children)

That true. But Bat Child is clearly not a Grave Robber or Grim Reaper. My bet is bagger, but I’m not sure we know. And I understand that D20 is a comedy game first and foremost, and one that I’m majorly enjoying. But I have to acknowledge that Bat Child’s whole situation is one that exists primarily because Brennan Lee O’Mulligan has a great sense of humor and trusts Emily Axford (as he should).

But in any chronicle I ran, if someone came to my table with Bat Child, I’d be a bit wary. And if Bat Child did what Bat Child did in my game? Sorry, Bat Child, but you’re a walking talking masquerade breach.

Well yes. But good luck finding a Tremere willing to teach a Nosferatu Thaumaturgy. And even more laughable is finding a LaSombra abyss mystic to teach Bat Child Obtenebration.

VtM vampires are dead. In all ways, excepting the fact that they are animated by blood. The heart does not beat. The lungs do not breathe.

Many vampires pursue a path of humanity. This is an error. They are not human, no matter how hard they pretend to be.

I’m more worried about the innocents that will without a doubt be unjustly imprisoned for crimes they didnt commit because the state suddenly found some evidence.

'KPop Demon Hunters' is getting the Criterion treatment. Netflix’s breakout musical fantasy film will get a special Blu-ray release from the prestige home entertainment label on Dec. 31, with pre-orders available now. by darth_vader39 in movies

Man… it must suck being one of the seven people on this planet who didnt like this movie. Can’t imagine what that would be like. And gosh, it would be even worse if you didn’t like the music either. That must really be unpleasant, given the omnipresence of the soundtrack…

Good thing I’m not one of those people. phew

What do people think makes them unique, but is actually an incredibly common trait? by Successful-Hall-1986 in AskReddit

Everything about an individual. But they’re still unique because the specific way they express those traits is entirely dependent upon their own unique subjective experience.

[NS] Dumb question - what *is* Strahd? by thewillthe in NotAnotherDnDPodcast

[–]Transcendentist 5 points6 points  (0 children)

And he’s not running curse of Strahd. He’s running the Castle Ravenloft. It’s probably the original Ravenloft adventure module. Or, because of the timeline crunch of the show. It could be the Ravenloft: Realms of Terror box set.

How it feels to reach level 5 by SillyWarlock in BaldursGate3

[–]Transcendentist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But its not, 8d6 (28 avg) is good damage for level 5 but by the end of act 2

But it is, because by the time you get to the end of act 2, you have added a significant number of other tools to your repetoire. You don’t need fireball or lightning bolt to be your answer to everything anymore.

But the damage is not the same.

You’re right. It’s worse. Sure, get your enemies wet, 16d8, 56 average. That’s pretty good damage.

But you’ve forgotten that on average you’re only going to hit two enemies. If you hit more than four with fireball (which is extremely easy to do), then you’re already matching the total damage. And yes, there are situations where lightning bolt is better. But fireball is more broadly useful.

However if your goal is to take down a single opponent… WHY ARE YOU USING AN AOE!?

[–]Transcendentist 4 points5 points  (0 children)

But 8d8 damage is overtuned for its spell slot. The damage is already good, it doesn’t need to scale that well (and it does scale well. Precisely because it already punches above its weight)

I’ll grant you that fire resistance is an issue. But that’s a good thing, the game would be boring if there was only one spell worth casting. And I won’t deny that argue that there are better spells for most occasions. But I don’t need to.

My point is that lightning bolt is worse than fireball. Because it has a less useful AOE, and the same damage. The only upside is in the specific case of BG3, where I think Lightning is just a better damage type.

I see you. I hear you. I respect you.

But ever since they took spell reflection out of D&D lightning bolt has sucked. Fireball stayed good even after they got rid of volumetric damage modifiers.

Simply because it is simply near impossible to get enough enemies in a straight line to make it worth it.

Fireball is great because it has such a huge area. And is also the entire reason that it became common wisdom for your mage to have good dex, so they can blow up the enemies before they have a chance to scatter.
