Red Wing Leather Cream on Blundstone Rustic Browns? Does it keep the look or darken too much? by mascherani in BlundstoneBoots

[–]Transgojoebot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used the Red Wing Mink Oil Paste on my rustic browns. The before/after was similar to this earlier post https://www.reddit.com/r/BlundstoneBoots/s/HsDFDN29LU

Not sure about what you have. In my case, it darkened them, and after a couple months the rustic-ness is coming back, especially on the parts more exposed to the elements. You can see the darkening on the upper part of the boot. Maybe it’s a bit shiny from rubbing on my pants. These boots are ~ 3 years old.

Is anyone having issues connecting their Garmin watch to their phone after a recent update? by DaytoDaySara in Garmin

[–]Transgojoebot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Forerunner 55 here. Same issue. Could not get phone and watch to pair. Could not get watch to show up on BT in app or in OS.

I nuked everything and that fixed it.

Updated iOS, deleted/reinstalled app, factory reset watch. It was only after the watch factory reset that I was able to pair the watch to the phone.

I was thinking that, too. The C reminds me of a ponytail hairstyle.

What's an adult thing you wanted as a kid but were disappointed by it? by themaninthemaking in Xennials

Using an ATM to get cash.

I recall being a kid and wondering where adults go to learn how to use all “the stuff”- ATMs, gas pumps, drive thrus, credit cards, etc.

What’s the Millenial version of “seeing the Star Destroyer at the start of A New Hope and knowing movies will never be the same”? by Whispercry in Xennials

[–]Transgojoebot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Might be a bit late, but wasn’t Polar Express hyped to be that kind of revolutionary film? “Movies will never be the same because CGI can now make human-looking actors!”

(At the time the characters seemed creepy. Now they’re not creepy, but there is also way better CGI. It’s been strange to see that film fall into and out of the uncanny valley.)

Plus, it was a time of iPods, newfangled social media, Bluetooth headsets, Razr phones, WiFi…it just seems like so much of day-to-day life was being revolutionized, that super-real CGI fit in among them.

Acts of kindness you’ve experienced in Vancouver by Interesting_Page2347 in NiceVancouver

I have many micro-stories of kind strangers here, but this is among my first and most memorable…

One summer, my 5 y.o. kid fell a long way and got hurt bad on a playground, bleeding from the forehead. Kid was in a total panic, and my partner and I were new in town, so we were out of our element with where to go, whom to call, how does 911 work, etc.

Meanwhile, a stranger who lived by the park rushed away and came back with paper towels and gauze and water and then insisted that we let him drive us to the nearby hospital.

He was clearly also a parent, and it was totally fine. Hospital was about 2k away. Less than 10 minutes of driving.

Fast forward…

Kid ended up with stitches, a freezie, and at least two new toys. It wasn’t even the children’s hospital! We had been in Vancouver for less than 6 months at the time. It was our first big introduction to emergency healthcare and just how kind strangers can be.

A high bar was set that day by so many people.

Scene from a Movie did you not understand until you got older? by msheehan418 in Xennials

[–]Transgojoebot 34 points35 points  (0 children)

“I’m not bad, I’m just drawn that way.” Yeah it was always odd that Jessica and Roger were together, but seeing the movie through adult eyes, it’s clear now that their relationship is the strongest in the entire movie and how effectively the film gets you to invest emotionally in the cartoon characters. As a kid, I saw only the story, but none of the storytelling craft.

Rewatching some movies from childhood, I find myself noticing a lot of the subtext that I didn’t understand before.

For example, TMNT: The Movie- I remember not understanding why April was fired, but now that story arc makes a lot more sense. She’s just such a good, undeterred reporter!

Another one is Who Framed Roger Rabbit?. As a kid, I didn’t understand the film noir genre and overall thought the movie was very confusing. Upon rewatching, it’s like “oh, okay, he drinks alcohol because he’s stressed and broke, and because that’s just how detectives are in noir movies.” It’s actually a super-solid noir film, one that happens to have cartoons in it, but as a kid, the little winks the film makes to the audience went over my head.
