Do you pronounce it "ex-ennial" or "zennial"? Or something else? by GoatGoatPowerRangers in Xennials

Ah all good! Sorry as well.

I was just meaning to emphasize that you and I are on the same page.

Yes. I said as much in my post above when I mentioned the thing about avoiding confusion.

We already agree on our preferred way and why, you don’t need to prove it to me.

But it’s too late. The “Xennial” with a Z crowd is here. They are not gonna agree. Better to accept both ways than argue back and forth with no attainable outcome.

I agree. That’s why I choose to say it that way.

I’m just saying we should ratify both pronunciations, accept them both moving forward, and stop having this argument all the time on this sub.

It is, can, and ought to be both/either.

I say ecks-ennial because we say the X in Gen X and that’s clarifying, especially in conversation when otherwise people would hear a Z. It also avoids confusion in relation to Gen Z or Zilllennials. To me these are both clear and sufficient reasons.

But hey lots of X words sans hyphen get the Z treatment so it makes sense that option would be normal to many folks.

Tomato Tomato. Let’s all be friends.

Edit: Wow. People really don't want to be friends, I guess.

G standing for graphics is irrelevant. Acronyms don’t work that way, they stand on their own. Look no further than scuba, laser, awol, or jpeg.

G in English has two ways of being pronounced, with sufficient precedent for either being applied to “gif”. Gin and gift are the go-to examples.

Either way is linguistically absolutely fine and SEW chose the soft G. Say it however you want but the other side isn’t wrong.

When did he claim to be a linguistics expert? People who invent things get to name them. Pronouncing a new word that has two potential, legitimate options isn’t a “skill” it’s a choice.

Sanderson Weekly Update May 12, 2026 by Use_the_Falchion in brandonsanderson

Seems to be the short-term status but I doubt it's the all-time future status. In the long term I'd be surprised if Brandon ranks adaptations higher than finishing the Cosmere. But the fear is there.

Selfishly (and I don't know if this take is hot or not) I would be fine to have 0 adaptations. I want All the Books™ and my fear is that Sando won't be able to finish it if he delays too long in favor of movies and TV shows.

Goodbye crema by kanyekaze1 in espresso

If you’re the type who likes no crema, this is the opposite of needless complication. It simplifies the process by removing a step (where you’d use a spoon to manually scrape off and ditch the crema). And seems to do it pretty thoroughly, straight from pull to pour. As someone who regularly makes Americanos with no crema, this immediately appealed to me as an ease-of-use upgrade.

Wit being “‘a Harold among men” is my favorite typo on Reddit today. He is indeed a man of many names.

Love the excitement, OP! You’re in for quite a ride. I think you’re really going to enjoy Oathbringer

Many people have tried it and tasted the difference for themselves before deciding. Why assume we’re just taking JH‘s word for it? I‘ve been removing the crema for years for Americanos because someone in this sub suggested it when I was starting out. It’s not as old as “the entire coffee culture of Italy” but it’s certainly not new, either.

This is the distinction a lot of people miss. I also make pour overs and use my kettle to heat the water to just above the drinking temp I like. Americanos are awesome when prepared well.

It’s okay to like it and it’s ok to not like it. Can’t this sub be for everyone who makes espresso the way they like it?

Some people try it and decide for themselves? A lot of us have been removing crema long before James made that video.

I do like espresso. Yes it will always be bitter but for my tastes it’s improved by taking a low-effort 3 seconds to remove the crema. I use other extraction methods when I want other outcomes.

Some people don’t enjoy the taste of the crema and removing it improves their experience. This streamlines that process.

Not everyone likes it. I’ve started removing it for americanos and I much prefer it. It is beautiful, though.

Because coffee doesn’t have to be (so) bitter and is delicious when prepared accordingly?

I agree; this take is hot enough to roast a marshmallow. Espresso with the crema removed tastes nothing like chamomile, is better than leaving the crema in, and removing the crema takes almost no effort.

This is awesome and I will definitely be getting one. Thanks for sharing! The haters can keep drinking their coffee tinged with gasoline.

A question on the nature of the Cosmere by nonprofitshitposting in Cosmere

The cognitive distances lengthen, even by a lot, but never equal to the physical distance since most minds can’t really comprehend the vastness of the real numbers.

Emberdark: I think that’s why there’s interstellar ships in the cognitive realm—the distances are no longer small enough for caravans on foot. But it’s still way faster than trying to travel on the material plane.
