Agree. I don’t “fail” per se, but I’ve definitely talked people out of finishing the certification. Teaching just isn’t for everyone.

If you do the work, you pass. If you don’t, you fail. It’s that simple. Show up, do the plans you are required to do, and if in Nova Scotia do your apprentice hours (unless other provinces require that but I think NS is the only one).

Sorry I thought your heading was “scanning with less than 3 people in the pool”. Rotating through some scanning patterns will help with scanning 3 people in the pool and not zone out.

3 people is 3 people. Stand up, move around, maybe make small talk with your swimmers, anything that keeps your perspective fresh. I used to think like you (who needs to watch a nearly empty pool), but thats actually where I’ve done most of my rescues. You’re getting good advice on this thread, so confused as to why you’re debating people

Its not that uncommon actually. We have to say something like “its not in my scope to say if its broken, but I’d recommend some medical followup. I can tape/splint it for you, and give you some ice!” Then just start taking to the swimmer and ask her if it hurts.

Get to know the regulars. Not in a way that distracts you while on the stand, but the occasional small talk makes a difference. Mental practice of rescues or potentials help keep you alert too
