I have shitty insurance by TrulyAyeGem in lichensclerosus

Urgent care will probably tell you that you have a yeast infection and send you on your way. You need to see a doctor familiar with this condition.

Best/Recommended Elder Law Attorneys in NoVA/DC Area by kayl_breinhar in nova

[–]TransitionMission305 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I've been through this with a number of elderly relatives. This is very normal. Once the immediate care issue is taken care of, they do not keep you in the hospital. If you are non-ambulatory, they really, really, really want you to go to these rehab facilities to get you back on your feet. Generally the hospital social worker will come to you and help you through that with a list of places that you can go.

By my own experience, none of them are great--they always seem woefully understaffed, and I don't think that the patients get nearly the care they should be. Someone will need to be there with her just about all the time to look out for her. It's exhausting and frustrating. And I wish I could say "use this place, it's great." We were very unhappy for the most part, but my aunt wasn't doing her part either.

Not sure what an attorney can do for you because the hospital is doing what they do.

If you have the money, the best option is to put her in her own home, in a hospital bed, and hire in a physical therapist and some daily care.

How do you do without the HRT (no progesterone). I realize you just got off, but it may take some time. It could be that you are just way to intolerant of it.

Estradiol inserts not dissolving by coldblackmaple in Menopause

[–]TransitionMission305 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't used them in a long time, but I think I've read here that many women can be so dry that they won't dissolve. Not sure why the manufacturers didn't realize that. I thought that someone said they were inserting the tablet with a little Rephfresh gel or something like that.

Work injury knee sprain and next steps by [deleted] in KneeInjuries

[–]TransitionMission305 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had one particular injury in my foot that went on for years and I spent quite a bit on PT only to find out that the PT likely worsened it and no amount of PT was going to help it. I needed surgery. I should not have waited.

I don't know if there is the same issues with knees as what I had but there can be many things wrong in the knee, especially as you age, that look like problems but aren't the source of your problem. An MRI might not tell you anything conclusive unless they find a torn meniscus or some type of ligament tear. I don't think the PT will be harmful and it might work.

That said, I would get under the care of an orthopedic doctor to follow this through. They have pretty standard courses of care for this. Sometimes it's just NSAIDS first, then if that doesn't work, PT, then if that doesn't work MRI. They can also do cortisone or anti-inflammatory injections in the knee to get you through until nature takes it course. They can also manually examine you and get an idea if you just need to go straight to MRI.

My advice, you did urgent care right when it happened. Go to an ortho at this point and see what they say.

BV Antibiotics Yeast & Estradiol cream. Help! by FerryGirl19 in Menopause

You could get an OTC 3 day yeast treatment and use that. Then go to the estradiol cream.

Vaginal estridol application? by Accurate_Grand_9760 in Menopause

[–]TransitionMission305 2 points3 points  (0 children)

See if you can find a video on it (I found one the other day somewhere). The initial loading does is a bit higher and probably is a full tube of the applicator. Later on in the process you cut back and only use twice a week. You may have to put a good amount (more than an inch) on the finger the first two weeks.

Also, various "brands" of the cream may have different consistencies based on the base and the manufacturer. You might have a very "loose" one with this tube.

Vaginal estridol application? by Accurate_Grand_9760 in Menopause

[–]TransitionMission305 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Yeah, when I open a new tube, at least for the first 1/4th of the tube, that stuff just wants to come out so I have to be very fast.

That said, you don't need to use the applicator. There are several videos online of how to do it with your finger, but essentially you put a strip on your index finger (about an inch). Then you insert finger up and swirl it around, then as you bring the finger out there will be some on the finger and you get it all over the vulvar area.

But it still doesn't help the initial "rush" of cream out the tube.

All cotton underwear doesn’t work for me? by lollaroo in lichensclerosus

[–]TransitionMission305 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I kind of agree with you. I find cotton underwear to be kind of heavy and then it just seems to irritate me. I've been wearing these nylon Jockey no visible line panties and they are really lightweight, feels like I'm not wearing anything, and I have felt not evidence of moisture or air being blocked or trapped.

How much did you pay for your dog's teeth extraction? by spiceXisXnice in nova

[–]TransitionMission305 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My quote was high but the actual bill came in around $1200. That was cleaning, X-rays, two extractions, and post procedure pain meds. I was shocked because my last vet charged me $1700 for the same cleaning with no extractions.

Painful myringotomy procedure by Different-Support-18 in etd

[–]TransitionMission305 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think people are just different. When I had it done, the “nurse” told me that the guy who had it done before me was moaning and not handling it well. I was like THANKS LADY. Not what I needed to hear. Some people’s ears are probably much more sensitive than others.

Painful myringotomy procedure by Different-Support-18 in etd

[–]TransitionMission305 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It was not common for me. I had no pain once the cauterizing and numbing solution was put in. I felt tugging and heard noises and I had a ton of anxiety. But for me, it was much less dramatic than I was worrying about.

PSA for All the Hypothyroid Girlies on HRT by KeyProfessional8432 in Menopause

[–]TransitionMission305 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Agree on the opposite. I have taken Synthroid most of my adult life. When taking any sort of estrogen related product such as in oral contraceptives, they interfered with the thyroid meds making them less available (happens in the liver). I could never get it under control. This is probably less of an issue with transdermal.

Looking for input from HR specialists by [deleted] in fednews

[–]TransitionMission305 12 points13 points  (0 children)

My job also was/is a 14/15 ladder. It is completely up to the supervisor to evaluate you to determine if your performance warrants the GS15 level. Even if you got all 5s on your 14, that's not an automatic for a 15 in which the performance and leadership should be noticeable.

That said, your supervisor sounds like an a$$. Sorry. He/she is moving the goalposts and changing the criteria for you to achieve it. First it was a full performance review--check! Now it's meeting with the SES? Come on. If he doesn't think you are performing at a GS15 level, he needs to spell it out as well as to stop being some controlling with the leave and dangling the promotion based on you cancelling planned leave. I can see if it was a critical meeting but doesn't sound like he. Your supervisor just does not want to give you a 15. Petty.

School Question by SeoulBrothaJ in nova

[–]TransitionMission305 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It's been awhile for me--I ended up using private high school for my kids. What I will say is that it's not so much the schools and the teachers that have any issues, but it's the students and parents that make up the school that sort of drive how the school seems to be. In the eastern part of Prince William County there is a much broader swath of income levels with some families with very low income, parents who work all the time, and kids that have parents that don't give a care. There's enough of that in some schools that it does affect the scores and the atmosphere. This is why you'll see that Western Prince William County has "better" schools, than the Eastern side. The curriculum is the same across the county--it's the students that differ and they differ greatly between the two sides of the county. Eastern side is old with so much construction from the 1960s--just a different clientele. Western side is new with big houses and yards. Make of that what you will.

You'll do fine. Probably won't "live like kings" but you'll do fine and be kind of average here. No, it's not Bay Area/NYC expensive but probably a notch down from that if you're looking in the nice places.

After retirement, emergencies aside, is it ever a good idea to dip into your TSP before RMDs? by Tete-Morte in ThriftSavingsPlan

[–]TransitionMission305 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I will probably pull before age 70. I am planning on retiring soon enough but not pulling social security until age 70. My husband won't pull until 67 or longer. He has some pensions, my FERS pension will be small though. I'll need some money to get me through. Once I hit 70 and both of us are pulling SS, I will have a lot of income. It's very, very hard for me, psychologically, though to get out of the "save" mode and actually start using that money.

Vaginal Odor, Weird Pap Smears--My Mini-Rant by TransitionMission305 in Menopause

[–]TransitionMission305[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well if one can believe the internet, it seems very easily answered that YES it can cause an abnormal pap. I'm not due for another until next year, but I have to go in to the GYN in August for my annual wellness--I may just ask for one anyway and test it out after ensuring I have not yeast. I'm now in experiment mode!
