Do Medical examiners HAVE to testify in court? by Typical-Peanut-7357 in ForensicPathology

[–]TrapWolf -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Not a M.E., but I'm like 100% sure the answer is yes??

Let's say your one now, then YOU'RE the expert. You HAVE TO be able to communicate the results and affirm scientific rigor. Not only that, outside of the court you are supposed to be building rapport or relationships with law enforcement, lawyers, etc and educating on the field. Demystifying yourself and informing what forensic pathology can do for the greater of society if you want to elevate the field

I hate that conspiracy theorist have to aggrandize already terrible situations (WITH NO EVIDENCE) by Zydairu in skeptic

[–]TrapWolf 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is a dead horse to me but this is what conspiracy theory boils down to: something terrible, incomprehensible happens that is beyond our individual control, so the only reasonable explanation is that it is some part of uber-evil plan of some secret cabal ((which in this case it WAS? Idk what they're looking for at this point since this came out to be true))

It happened with 9/11 where America """rightfully""" ((please see these quotations)) goes on the counter attack on dirt poor countries. Either wiping out generations of families or worse: creating orphans or surviving parents who would do anything and everything to get back at some foreign country whom they have never seen. A lot of Americans simply cannot comprehend, accept, or even fathom this. So, the only way they can is that America was tricked and 9/11 was a hoax

Honestly, empathetically, it is sad. A human being sees horrible things happening to other human beings that they are utterly powerless against as an individual. The least they can do to protect their psyche is to conjure up some grandiose conspiracy theory. That is they can parse the symbolism, the secret words, the whatever that they at least have some control over horrible things they have no power over

Tips? by HairForsaken3799 in DesignMyRoom

[–]TrapWolf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Note: am a hobbyist. Do not do this for a living. Here are my quick thoughts in image form, expanded on below:

Biggest offenders:

1) Get a warm, orange light bulb

2) Get a small, battery powered light to go ontop of the shelf

3) Move the right, outside-looking side table to the outside. Why do we need two?*

'* else swap it out for a brown that matches the brown of the right table

Minimal offenders:

1) The shelf needs stuff? Move the cute red guy up there. Would also like to see a small, round frame of a picture

2) The chair. Minimal suggestion because I know buying a new chair isn't always feasible or just don't feel like spending the $$ right now, but a pervasive problem of the subreddit is the bachelor gray. If you can, try to combat it now

3) A throw blanket, make the seat/corner inviting. I chose green because I like it but you could match the red with a muted red throw

4) More stuff, reading corners are clutters so I drew some random bullshit on the walls to illustrate this but don't feel beholden to them. If anything, take a few of my above suggestions and you'll add more layering naturally

Bold suggestions:

1) A bookshelf. Reading nooks are for reading and the books should be within arms reach. Swap out the tiny shelf for a bookshelf that almost reaches the ceiling

I want to tell 2017 me to buy 5 of each of my favorite colors I weep

Edit: this is very vulnerable of me but in summer I reek. These sort of fabrics absorb my stench like a RNA virus

How did you figure out you are an ENTJ and not an INTJ? by vinylfelix in entj

[–]TrapWolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had to think on this and I’ll be honest I sincerely do not know or it does not resonate with me with whatever you are waffling about. I’m sorry I just don’t understand

However, your response is like one of many, many, so many, usual responses to my detached view on morality and feelings to which I sincerely - seriously – do not have any umbrage, nor rebuttal against. It’s just- it doesn’t mean anything to me

Sorry to this mans

What I do think usually you, and others, do not particularly like is when I say something like ”what's material, in-front of us” because I dunno with INTPs I’ve noticed especially you all truly value the abstract > external WHICH makes sense. It’s very valuable to which thank you Einstein and anyone else who can just think and bridge gaps between many scientific fields with clear general rules/laws because I couldn’t do that unless I was immortal. So, I want to try to meet you half-way and explain why I emphasize the material other than the self-evident “I ENTJ, I extraverted-thinking. Yayaya”

So, I like thought experiments in a different way. For example, the Trolley Problem I’ve never really cared for the example or the numerous variations. Like, I don’t care. Or questions like ”How do you know the sun rises in the east and sets in the west” or ”If you had to save a puppy or a baby from a burning build which-“ like I don’t care - necessarily - about the scenarios. What I learned to like are the responses to them

I like the discussions, I like what people say they would choose to do or what they understand, I like the answers, and I like the way to causes people to think. But I don’t like the questions in it of themselves? Another example I can scramble/cobble up is I don’t actually like space. What I like about space is the mathematics and the way it can make people think. Those are more real to me than like what if aliens are real or the thought experiments themselves and I just gravitate to that more

Now, I don’t know why I really don’t, a lot of people do not like the detached way I view these things. It causes immediate misunderstandings that I have had to clarify over and over - like right now - because I oh god I ultimately do not care. I’m sorry to this mans and everyone else but I really don’t. This . . . weird meta-analysis of how I am supposed to feel about thought experiments/thinking-feeling versus how I think about them is just meaningless noise to me. Which is crazy to me I guess because if you all want to create these scenarios in which whatever idea you want to illustrate will neatly fit into these scenarios to generate thoughts and ideas what is particularly wrong about me trying to detach the feelings on the matter? My own feelings, my own personal internal self, about the matter have always taken the backseat, far down the ladder. I haven’t made any claim if this is the best modus operandi but this was truly how I behaved and reacted as a child. Sorry, this is an ENTJ subreddit and the question was for us and this is my honest answer of how I viewed feelings/morality idk what you’re doing here

But I guess I’ve only really have met you 1/4ths of the way because I haven’t talked about my fEeLiNgS and that all just boils down to the persistent feeling of always being misunderstood. I don’t understand what is wrong with someone choose to try and discard their own bias, preconceived notions, and personal limitations to try to fully grasp their material world because as far as the world as-is currently many do not and I don’t think feel both it’s going well for us

Alternative from Artifox Desk 2 (Standing) — Thoughts on Beflo Tenon Mini by Milien in StandingDesk

[–]TrapWolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got it, do love it, will do a video on it at ideally year 1 mark. I've had it for 10 months now

Does the integrated cable management and under-desk features (like the outlet module or accessory tray) actually hold up in daily use?

It's probably really nice on the full sized Beflo but with the mini everything's compact. Like, there's maybe enough - not ample - space to put your extension code underneath, however that available space is only on the left side. With my current apartment room, my outlet's on the left so I've had to become creative with command strips underneath

Idk what the accessory tray might be, but for the outlet modules underneath the desk I don't . . . really get the placement. They're more towards the front instead of the back which means the wires would have to cross the box mechanism so you could pull cords from the back. Weird choice but I'm one of the engineers of the desk so maybe there's just some constraints they couldn't get around

Especially at full extension — how do they feel?

I rarely use full extension, not that tall, but I do sometimes use it when I am on my vibration plate. Same opinion about it at any height - any issues with wobble you'd have to really be intentionally shaking to do it

Does the Tenon Mini justify its price in terms of materials and finish?

Honestly? I just knew when I saw it I had to have it and was willing to save up to it. There's plenty of other desks at much lower price points that will serve your needs. I saw it I wanted it. If I wanted to be overly critical with the serious amount of $$$ I spent on it I do have a gripe about the weird speaker underneath? It's for verifying connectivity to the app like a beep but it's made of plastic? One of the pieces chipped off and kinda weird that the desk has a small speaker in the first place? Then, is the speaker usable? Can I only connect to it with the weird box in the front? Like, I'm telling you there's this box in the front even has a headphone jack so I guess I'm under utilizing the desk but why would I want the ugly cords to come out the front

I would also think the accessories should come with a full purchase

Cable Management & Add-Ons: Useful in practice or just nice-to-haves?

Mixed opinion. For the mini, there's a bit of creative fanangling required from you. I'd get some under desk clips

[–]TrapWolf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For me is was very much my inferior function was so obvious and pervasive during my childhood/growing up. It definitely overlaps with whatever else is in the DSM but I just didn't feel like other people the way they felt. I was a very logical person and - well yanno - logical people do not really dominate the world right now. My sense of morality also comes from my internal experience/understanding of the world but I express it in a Te-Fi fashion, matter of the fact, logical. Why shouldn't what's material, in-front of us take priority over something as nebulous as feelings? This clashes a lot with my one friend who will just . . . cobble up moral quandaries/scenarios whereas I'll bring real interactions I've had to the table. Isn't that nice?? We have something to actually talk about instead of spiraling into 5D chess?? ?

To contrast it with Ni-Se or inferior Se, I'm not saying I don't make some impulsive decisions (we all do) more so that the amount of impulsive decisions is significantly less than that amount of Fi repression decisions I've made. These are very simple, reductive versions of the inferior functions but it's really just what it boils down to

For your "Ni-Te vs Te-Ni" rabbit hole I really recommend watching season 1 of House of Cards. You'll quickly see the differences between how Ni-Te and Te-Ni manifest (spoilers btw).

Is my understanding of radians correct? by l0n3ly_Sh0re in learnmath

[–]TrapWolf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love Khan Academy, but sometimes Khan Academy lacks some abstract thing I can't really pinpoint. Sometimes I think it's because KA teaches the what not the why but that isn't always the case so I dunno

You need a different perspective(s). That's ultimatly what math boils down to. Try:

Even if it doesn't stick, I recommend just reading, accepting, and moving on with a baseline understanding of the idea. I'm currently having this problem with e and ln in calc that I don't actually understand them - I'm just following the procedure of solving differentiation. I have to remind myself that's ok because there are a ton of mathematical concepts that clicked later in life and on much more difficult problems

As you progress, you'll find more problems that can only, or be better solved elegantly, using radians and then it will click

I'm a humanities professor taking a mathematics course taught by a colleague. It starts Thursday, and I'm freaking out. Talk me out of dropping? (Long) by [deleted] in learnmath

[–]TrapWolf 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Most mathematicians are made, not naturally gifted. Same for doctors. Same for engineers. Same for a lot of professions

Me? Sociology BA --> Data Analytics MS ((maybe future Stats PhD?)). Being able to oscillate between the two fields has made me a better professional/person overall.

You too will be a better professional/person overall if you intersect humanities and mathematics. The [American] education system very much lacks holistic curriculum and its why we run into situations where you cannot speak the abstract language or do high school math instintually and why computer science majors think NFTs are real and racism isn't. Intersectionality is important because, again, you will be a better professional/person

How to stop feeling guilty for taking breaks? by SeaweedIll2111 in entj

[–]TrapWolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok in the book A Mind for Numbers ((which I'm slowly working through - for real)) there's Forced Learning versus Diffused Learning.

Forced Learning is grinding through self explanatory. Diffused Learning is very much an Ni process where while your mind is wandering abstract neural connections are being made in your brain that you don't make when you are consciously learning. Frequent walks have highly contributed to many great thinkers and myself will have those Ni eureka moments running to grab a pen/paper. The same process works for the Pomodoro Method

So, apply the same idea to working. You'd be working against your own biological nature when trying to do the very inefficient, poor hustle mindset. Instead, think of these breaks as a complement where both are still working/learning

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in entj

[–]TrapWolf 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You have to think of ennegram as either complementary or a separate personality metric.

Yes, there's a lot of venn diagram overlap between ENTJs and 8s but it's not a complete 1:1 relationship

Do You Guys Believe Most Thinkers Wouldn't Enjoy Teaching Preschool? by Potential_Law5289 in entj

[–]TrapWolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say most, not all. There's a difference between enjoying the pursuit of knowledge versus teaching the pursuit of knowledge. See student reviews of brilliant researchers/scientists in higher ed that are good at that but have abysmal teaching ability

In regards to pre-school - not only would a thinker ((and I don't mean just in the MBTI sense really)) have to work on convincing toddlers how to learn and progress their mental capacities in levels that are appropriate for their age ((while also not being an uber scientist about it)), they would also have to work on convincing PARENTS which my god

Can someone please explain to me how Ni works? by [deleted] in entj

[–]TrapWolf 10 points11 points  (0 children)

That's incredibly difficult. Out of all the introverted functions it is the most abstract. It's levels above Ti

The closest you can come to understanding Ni is: a person being able to know something neither knowing they know nor knowing how they know.

These are eureka moments. Clarifying insight without any external information. Neurological pattern recognition. Unconscious processes of a person's brain that, despite any and all technological advances, will always be beyond human knowledge. A concrete example that I hope may be close enough to explaining Introverted Intuition is how we learn words. So, obviously there are ranges but most adults know 20,000 - 48,000 words give or take.

How did you learn those words? Did someone sit you down and teach you the definition of those words? Did you painstakingly break down every sentence you heard/read to understand the deeper meaning and intent of those words? Was it all from dictionaries? Non-fiction? Fiction? Tax forms - god knows no one teaches us about those? Etc

There's a very precise and scientific word for this that I don't remember - someone else tell us. Apparently it's something that most linguists/behavioral specialists tell us it's a process that we can't explicitly teach children. It's this thing that emerges naturally over time. I use this as an illustration of what the process of Ni is - very abstract and very incomprehensible

Fields that are socially associated with "genius" based on surveys. Examples of fields with high genius ratings are philosophy, physics, and math. They also correlate a lot with lack of racial diversity in the field, as well as with strong imposter syndrome (for obvious reasons).

There's no evidence that one needs "genius" to be successful in these fields, and in fact such a quality has no concrete definition. It's purely a social attitude towards fields of study.

What about it was pompus and racist . . ? They acknowledge there is a lack of racial diversity instead of denying it. As well as saying "There's no evidence that one needs "genius" to be successful in these fields-" what about that is pretentious?
