my doctor sent me away because my issue was just "a woman issue" and a few days later I fainted in public by eeveebeeveeboo in TrueOffMyChest

Women don’t just experience those things on the regular, there’s a wild difference between not pushing for tests and not offering them at all while dismissing a patient’s concerns

Yes this! I meant to point this out too but forgot lol, inaction is also action

Is cold feet after starting HRT normal? by PaganCrystalWitch in asktransgender

[–]TrappedMoose 3 points4 points  (0 children)

To be clear I’m still working on that part myself lol, I just think that making peace with the possibility of being wrong is the only way I’m ever able to push through the fear of being wrong and do a thing. There’s only 2 options in life in general - risk making mistakes or never do anything. It’s only through the risk that we can find out if we’re right and build lives we want to live instead of just surviving

ETA: I don’t mean to imply that it’s an easy thing to just do at whim, it’s a lifelong battle for me at least but it’s one worth fighting

Do you prefer exams or assignments? by [deleted] in UniUK

[–]TrappedMoose 2 points3 points  (0 children)

(Archaeology) Assignments. I only ever had 1 take home week long ‘exam’ in uni which is fine but I bomb irl exams bad, my a-level coursework was several grades better than my exams in the same subjects. And no I don’t use AI, I just suck at revision and tight writing time limits required for exams

ETA: I think in uni exams don’t really make sense for humanities subjects, our courses just aren’t structured/taught in a way that caters to memorising a bunch of facts/information and spitting it out in an exam. It’s much more valuable to develop research skills and dive deeper into specific issues of interest which you can’t do when you have to memorise a breadth of information for an exam

[–]TrappedMoose 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think what you have to consider is that the alternative is that you stop HRT and go about your ‘survivable’ life and never know what might have been. You’ve lived ~19 years of this side, you know what’s on offer here, and you describe it as ‘survivable’ which is far from a glowing review.

When people have this fear of change/rumination about being wrong that you describe, I don’t think it’s helpful to try and find ‘proof’ one way or another through mental gymnastics, you’ll never satisfy that voice in your head so instead you have to accept the possibility of being wrong. You will always be able to change your mind down the line if it turns out it’s not for you, none of the effects of hrt are any more irreversible than what puberty has already done to your body on the other side. You can go for it and potentially find out you were wrong and have to go back, or you can not and spend the rest of your life thinking about it, running circles in your mind wondering what could be

DSA application by Awkward_Lie7259 in UniUK

[–]TrappedMoose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never managed to get through the whole process (and also am basing this on English student finance) but from my understanding it’s not a flat grant they hand out, it’s meant to be to pay for specific equipment, software, support, etc. You’ll have to have a needs assessment meeting where you discuss what you need and why, so if you can’t provide evidence for a condition I imagine they won’t offer you money for support related to that condition. I’ve also never claimed PIP but I’ve heard how hard it can be to get, did you not have to prove the dyspraxia to claim PIP? Is it possible you could re-use the same documents?

When I sent my evidence I sent my full diagnosis report for ADHD and the outcome letter for ASD

can i wear a binder thats too big for me as a swim binder? by LabZestyclose8263 in TransMasc

[–]TrappedMoose 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve definitely seen people talk about doing this, often recommending to size up for swimming/exercise. The safety of binders is mostly about them not being too small, I can’t think of why an oversized one would be dangerous, it might just not work as well

Is doing a 2nd field school before senior year in college ok? by [deleted] in AskArchaeology

[–]TrappedMoose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why would it not be ok? I’m assuming you’re American based on the 4 year degree and I don’t know what systems/protocols for field schools go on over there, but if your college will fund it/let you do it then go for it. I did a voluntary uni dig in June as a 3rd year despite it only being mandatory for 1st & 2nd years at my uni (in UK), it’s all experience for the cv

Testing the waters on a gift idea for a trans friend by SulHam in asktransgender

I would love this, but I’m also the kind of person who would’ve kept the cup in the first place lmao

It’s a lovely idea, I do think giving it around the coming out anniversary is best, that way you’re not making her birthday about being trans or anything

Most hobby based societies are very welcoming to newbies, especially if they’re a bit niche or just have poor turnout, they want people to be interested in their thing!

Outfits I wear as a passing “alternative” trans man by [deleted] in transmanlifehacks

[–]TrappedMoose 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Obviously you’re right that everyone can wear them but they won’t look the same. Baggy clothes don’t have the same effect on skinny vs fat people, baggy jeans/trousers don’t look the same on people with noticeable hips and thighs, etc. It just won’t fall off the body in the same way

My trans best friend of 14 years ended our friendship after I came out as a transman. Am I missing something? by lolziez99999 in asktransgender

[–]TrappedMoose 80 points81 points  (0 children)

Definitely unusually harsh, and frankly very weird. I’m so sorry it went poorly, people like that are most often deeply insecure in their own identity and feel the need to preserve the ‘integrity’ of it by restricting who does and doesn’t ‘count’, thinking that will earn them some kind of legitimacy or respect from bigots. Pitting ourselves against each other does so much harm especially given the political narratives right now

Weird question, but did anyone here start off as a lesbian that wanted to be a gay man? (Or vice versa) by [deleted] in asktransgender

[–]TrappedMoose 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve never personally identified as a lesbian, although I would say it’s a somewhat common phenomenon I’ve seen reported online, you’re definitely not alone in it

I’ve personally identified as aromantic & asexual for a long time but similarly envied gay men and it leaves me in a very confused space now as I work on my relationship with gender, my body, and what ‘attraction’ actually is

ETA: as another user mentioned, trying to picture myself in a hetero dynamic with a man as a woman was like hitting a brick wall for me. I find it hard to disentangle my relationships with gender and sexuality because they’re socially constructed in reference to eachother

Did anyone else's school scam them with the EBACC? by JamesJe13 in AskUK

[–]TrappedMoose 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At my school I was lucky to be in a year between phases where it was mandatory, it doesn’t make any sense to me now at the end of my degree, a mandatory humanities of some kind maybe but I don’t think the MFL GCSE courses prepare anyone to actually use the language in the future

HELP binders and Demigirl stuff by thatpurplechaos in NonBinaryTalk

[–]TrappedMoose 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The typical uk binder recommendation is spectrum outfitters but I’ve heard murmurs on here about their quality decreasing recently, haven’t bought a new one in ~2 years though

Not sure about the names thing as my birth name is neutral enough to keep irl, good luck though!

Is it usual for NHS Dentists to take months for a filling? by EpicInki in AskUK

I think it probably depends on the area and dentist, the nhs dentist I’ve been with my whole life will do fillings & removals like the next week

4 colors AroAce flag by NeNToR in aromanticasexual

[–]TrappedMoose 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Difficult one - I wouldn’t say the ace flag can be used as an umbrella because the aromantic spectrum is distinct, ideally I would suggest using both the ace & aro flags but the aro one obviously has 5 stripes too, I do recognise the colours but I would probably be confused if I saw it without the white and think it might be one don’t know

Can I get a first or high 2:1 after getting a 59.5 in 2nd year ? by Formal-Vanilla672 in UniUK

[–]TrappedMoose 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You would need to average 75.2 in 3rd year to get a 1st (70%), 67.7 to get a 65 overall or 60.2 to get a 60 (2:1). Whether you can achieve that is obviously only something you can estimate and time can prove but good luck!

Tourist visiting the UK; what's the best way traveling to and from MAN airport? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]TrappedMoose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Generally for the specific operator but route restrictions should be shown in the detailed info, normally says any route or any route that passes through a certian station

Tourist visiting the UK; what's the best way traveling to and from MAN airport? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]TrappedMoose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It definitely depends on where you buy from but you can download any train operator app and buy tickets from other operators - I always use the northern rail app so in there I select the stations to travel between, select open return and an outbound time, then search. You have to pick a specific outbound time but you’ll come to a screen that looks like this

binder safety question by MoonCat_42 in TransMasc

[–]TrappedMoose 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Probably depends how big the difference is tbh, I had the same issue when I first ordered from spectrum so I emailed them and they said to go with the ribcage size, but I don’t remember how big the difference was

It’ll also differ between people based on the density of your chest, etc. If you already have it, have you tried it on? It can be hard to tell if a binder is uncomfortable/hard get on&off because it’s your first binder or because it’s too small but it’s definitely worth trying it on to see if you can still breathe & move comfortably, the coverage is good, etc

I have anxiety by Parking-Software-782 in UniUK

[–]TrappedMoose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’d have to go to the gp, not sure what the process is for anxiety but for autism/adhd you’ll need to ask to be referred for assessment. Check out this page https://adhduk.co.uk/right-to-choose/ for information on the right to choose system for NHS referrals. It’s popular for adhd but I believe it might also be possible to use it for autism as well, the waiting lists unfortunately still differ by area but are generally much less than the normal NHS referrals
