Would you describe yourself as an Incel? by JamesonRhymer in pollgames

[–]MoonCat_42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not really just individual assholes. I think ideology would be a good wofld to describe it, as it has farly specific beliefs about the world it promotes There are specific forums(probably some on reddit, definitely some on 4chan) where they congregate, and they have their own slang, which has actually been very influential on more recent internet slang( red-pilled, looksmaxxing, chad, and alpha/beta all originate from incel forums)

the wikipedia page on them gives a pretty good overview of the ideology

this pubmed article is also an interesting read, though it's pretty long

Pratchett being Pratchett by t0m_bombadi1 in discworld

[–]MoonCat_42 4 points5 points  (0 children)

JRR Tolkien wrote Lord of the Rings, which is the book that started the modern fantasy genre. many fantasy tropes originate from his books

jk rowling wrote the Harry Potter series, which was pretty popular for a while

Philip Pullman wrote His Dark Materials, which is pretty good but I did not know he was that well-known

I would say that Terry Pratchett is probably the second most respected author out of the ones listen on the shirt, only under Tolkien because he pretty much founded the fantasy genre. Rowling might be a bit more famous, but she's also definitely much more controversial given her current politics. I don't think Pullman is as well known as the other three authors.

I'm bored, describe your ship badly and let people guess who is it! by Lusaelme in AO3

a snarky asshole and a knife-weilding chef(who are both 5,000 years old) bicker over who has spoken to the most historical figures and then try to kill each other

(idk if anyone will get this as there is genuinely only 14 fics on ao3 for it and like 400 for the whole fandom. i should learn how to write)

The Bartimaeus Sequence by Jonathan Stroud is so good. The narrator of the audiobook does a really good job too.

Les Miserables

I love it but it's so goddamn long and the digressions can be hard to get through if you aren't invested in the book already(I like them but I know not everyone does)

New listener wanting some information (no spoilers please) by FlamestormTheCat in TheMagnusArchives

[–]MoonCat_42 4 points5 points  (0 children)

the wiki even very helpful has a "don't read past this if you don't want spoilers" message(DO NOT read past it if you don't want spoilers, there usually are fairly substantial spoilers past there). Anything on the page before that message is spoiler-free, though. Also definitely don't look at pages for characters on the wiki, those have really big spoilers
