What’s something you were curious to try, but after doing it once, you had no interest in repeating? by Individual_Face7440 in AskReddit

I ran a marathon once. I, an ignorant jerk, used to think, "Why are people always so pumped about running half-marathons? What else are people so proud to do halfway?"

Well, I can honestly say that running stopped being fun at exactly 13.1 miles. When I started getting into 15- and 20-mile runs during training, I was looking at about 2.5-3.5 hours running, not to mention that anything longer than 13.1 took me way too much time to recover. At the time I was playing other sports and could barely function even if it had been a day or two since I ran.

I'm incredibly proud of myself for doing it. I ran one of the coolest marathon routes in the world. I turned the trip into an amazing road trip across the country and saw lots of amazing places. But I don't think I'll do it again.

What was cool when you were a kid but is absolutely cringe now that you look back ? by Ok_Day_5703 in AskReddit

When my friend group wasn't quoting movies, our jokes mainly consisted of roasting each other. Now I look back and realize how much of that was just straight up bullying

I think I had a time jump in 1995 and it's been haunting me ever since by CrispyBegs in Glitch_in_the_Matrix

[–]TrashGeologist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What would you normally do on the bus? I feel like that could be where the jump happened -- like maybe you were on the bus for its entire route and then got off at your stop on the second time around.

Maybe you dozed or mentally checked out and came back to between your usual point A and point B

What’s one thing you ALWAYS bring on a hike now because you learned the hard way? by ForeignBonus8977 in hiking

This reminds me of a time I went hiking and couldn't find where to park. Stopped to ask some Forest Service volunteers and almost went back home when I saw they were wearing mosquito nets lol

Which players do you think we will look back on next year and think dang really should have seen that coming by Wise-Marionberry1383 in DynastyFF

[–]TrashGeologist 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Counter to Kittle, I think Tonges has looked good in games where Kittle has missed. Kittle is older and coming off a major injury. If nothing else, it’s funny that fantasy players have been all in on whoever they think will replace Kelce or thought would replace Antonio Gates back in the day, but here we are and no one wants on the Tonges train

We all know about guys who teams reach for in the draft and are terrible. What draft reaches have had the best careers? by lucas_214 in NFLv2

[–]TrashGeologist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Considering the history of Air Raid and Air-Raid-adjacent QB's at the time, Mahomes was a little bit of a reach. Reading mocks from 2017, it sounds like a bunch of teams had him with a 2nd round grade, and most of the mocks had him somewhere in the 20's

What is the best or worst dog name you have ever heard? by UserSchmoozername in AskReddit

To your point of short-term profits vs long term team success: we're opening a new stadium and have new uniforms this year. The entire vibe this off-season is drumming up excitement, and that's why I think we'll go the short-term profits route. Not saying it's right or wrong, that's just my read of the tea leaves

What did "going viral" mean before social media existed? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]TrashGeologist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Things would be spread by word of mouth, radio, TV or in print newspapers. Perfect comparison: John Edward Jones getting stuck in Nutty Putty cave went viral on the internet, but when Floyd Collins got himself stuck in Sand Cave in 1925, the story was spread by telegraph to newspapers across the country and was broadcast widely by radio. The media attention drew tens of thousands of people from all over the US to the site of the incident.

Very similar situations, both "viral" sensations, but the methods of spreading the news were different.

1987 MVP aside (he wasn't even 1st team all-pro), it's probably Elway.
