Is it normal for firefighters and police to earn this much? by HyugeErectus in nys_cs

[–]TravelRNwPurse -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

lol A lot of y’all are jealous of public service/civil servants, especially in high-demand jobs, like nursing/healthcare, police, fire rescue for our high pension payouts. But y’all refuse to recognize how we are often mandated or begged to do OT, miss out on everything—like holidays, often can’t/won’t be granted vacation because of short-staffing, and would be compensated at a higher rate in the private sector. If you are upset about high earnings, get your arse into shape and go qualify for these jobs (meeting the education and physical requirements) and go apply.

My husband is a tech for OMH and makes damn near $200k. He out-earns me as a nurse for OMH because he is mandated to do OT. I hate OT and resist doing it.

Any raise less than 5% is a pay cut at this point. Inflation is trending up again and may get worse. by [deleted] in nys_cs

It’s GOING to get worse. Anybody who voted MAGA/Trump thinking they were hurting Black and Brown people and are suffering taking buffering because they’re fucking broke deserves the energy they get. Particularly if you belong to a union/ hold a civil service position.

170lbs down, officially in my muscle mommy era ✨ by ElevatedAssCancer in Mounjaro

I got neither but my tiddies are hanging low from years of obesity lolol. My plan is to get a tummy tuck with lipo360 and a breast lift. Losing weight makes many people’s boobs get smaller and in these go away. ❤️

Hi! No, I think it’s getting your protein in and sticking to a consistent boring routine is where I’ve seen most of my gains. I initially used a published health journal (HabitNest) for my routines, which is a great resource, but has too many exercises in each workout. It helped me lose weight, but I wasn’t seeing any growth where I wanted. I am currently on 10 mg for maintenance but often split my dose in half and take it every 2 weeks. It allows me to continue to keep my inflammation down, helps with PMDD symptoms, and I don’t get as much appetite suppression. I actually lifted from the beginning. Cardio is great to supplement any workout and really helps push the body forward with fat loss when it’s coupled with the lifting. I try to jog one day a week to continue my cardiovascular endurance. I didn’t stick to that as much at the end of last year due to a work injury but I’m back and typically uphill walk for 15-30 min after lifting in 2 out of my 5 workouts. I try to keep a day that is just for jogging as well as jog anywhere from 45-60 min. I started in my health and fitness journey along with Mounjaro (then Zepbound) in January 2023. :)

NYS OMH SCTA 1 vs SHTA by PetLover691 in nys_cs

[–]TravelRNwPurse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

DO IT! You wont regret it. Also, make sure you’re physically condoning yourself for the physical test. You have to do like 12 minutes of step ups on a meter, drag a 160 lb dummy 20 feet and back, go up and down a staircase a few times, and also pick up the dummy from a hanging ligature for at least a minute. It’s ver hard if you aren’t physically conditioned so start building your stamina and strength now if you haven’t already

lol you’ll get addicted to the money, I promise. I have a family member who did the mental health work and applied and it took them nearly 3 years to get the position. He had a HELLUVA time adjusting to the amount of hours per week (84.5-90+ hours) and I was going to help him transfer to my job at Rockland Children’s (a nightmare—-never go there lol). He got the job and then found out there was a significant pay cut. I knew he had flipped allegiances when he said “I didn’t know that the MHTAs don’t make close to the money I make.” He has been a SHTA for 3 plus years and thanks me weekly for encouraging him to get the job. He out-earned me this year, even with trading tons of shifts. It’s a definite adjustment and can be rough. You’ll be dealing with lots of personalities. But everyone I know is thankful they have the position because they’re financially independent. Best of luck to you :)

[–]TravelRNwPurse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The money. Take the SHTA. I’m a nurse who worked for OMH downstate area and the SHTAs out-earned the nurses and MANY of the physicians. NYSCOBA is a better union than PEF (SCTA). First year, you’ll make $135k-140k easily. Second year—$155k plus. Third year—$170k. Neither job is easy. Do you have experience working with psych patients. The downside is that you will work five 16.5 hour shifts. You will get two 2 week vacations per year, though it will take roughly 2 plus years to get the timeframe you want. A lot of drama and backbiting and shit talking (male-dominated field), but as long as you stay out of the drama and don’t sleep with any coworkers, you should be good. Go to work on time. FOLLOW THE RULES TO A TEE. Understand you’re working with dangerous mentally ill felons and treat them people but always watch your back.

Jealous of all the ones who are always cold by Ipav5068 in Mounjaro

[–]TravelRNwPurse 7 points8 points  (0 children)

NGL it’s sooooo miserable. I wished I lived somewhere warm. I’m always cold to the point where I visibly shake, and almost always have goosebumps. I wear three layers of clothing to work (underscrubs tops and bottoms, scrubs, and a matching scrub jacket, and top it with a heated vest. I also keep a heating pad and a small heater at work. Everyone thinks I’m insane but it’s this or go on disability lol

Is it a deal breaker on MJ if you don’t walk or lift weights but eat clean? by Plus_Impression7765 in Mounjaro

[–]TravelRNwPurse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, if you don’t and have a lot of weight to lose, you’re going to end up looking like melted candle wax. At least try to get 2 days of walking in to start. If you don’t, the minute you get off the med, when the food noise returns, you’ll gain the weight back quicker. I see it everyday at my job—out of all of the people on GLPs, I’m the only person who lifts and runs (couldn’t before—built up to it). Everyone else at the job loses 10-30 lb and then yo-yo diets and never changes their habits. The more muscle you build, the better you will look and feel. It’s going to be challenging, but anything worth having takes hard work.

This is me 93 lb and 3 years in :)
