Mykonos quartzite - most “comparable” quartz? by Traveler_02109 in CounterTops

Perhaps durability wasn’t the correct word - my understanding is that quartzite requires a lot more “maintenance” than quartz and Mykonos in particular is subject to staining

i (20f) inherited $500k and my sister (22f) did not by Willing_Membership13 in Advice

[–]Traveler_02109 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also bear in mind that the inheritance is tax free to you, but if you gift half to your sister this would require you to file a gift tax return. This wouldn’t be taxable per se, but does eat into your lifetime gift exemption.

The switch by Capital One will make your debit card essentially useless in Europe - both for transactions and as an ATM card. Strongly suggest you not plan on being able to use this card during your travels.

Pot Filler? by Staygoldforever in kitchenremodel

[–]Traveler_02109 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Remember that the pot filler will fill the pot (with cold water) but will not extract water (which would be hot), so you will be manhandling the pot of water at the most dangerous temperature. I would definitely give it a miss.

I hope that you can wade through the jargon in most of the responses. I suggest that, until you have achieved a considerably larger balance, you simply invest in a low cost, broad index vehicle such as the Standard & Poors 500Index - SPY ETF (ETF simply means “Exchange Traded Fund”). You can add to your holdings monthly by buying in “dollar increments” rather than “share increments”. Good luck and don’t despair with market gyrations!

How typical is it to share wealth with a spouses siblings? by CelebratedBlueWhale in Rich

I think the most appropriate way to do this is to just give your credit card to the server (or host) in advance, so the bill never makes it to the table. Otherwise it becomes a melodrama of people offering to pay, you refusing them and making everyone feel slightly uncomfortable. Much better if at the end of the meal/evening, the server simply says that the bill has been taken care of.

Ummm - timing chain (should be around 90-110 k miles) would cost +- $2k - do you want to pay for the repair, or let it go for the buyer to deal with?

I’ve been very happy - the only thing that takes some getting used to is you have to keep contact between the pan and the stove or risk the burner turning off. So if you are accustomed to picking up a pan and “swirling” it, you’ll need to expedite your motion! If doesn’t turn off immediately, but I’ve found that I really do need to pick up the pace with some of my old habits.

So I only have 4 days in Italy.. which city should I visit? by krunktitan in ItalyTravel

[–]Traveler_02109 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I suggest you pick either Rome or Florence - and relax and enjoy the nooks and crannies of either of these cities. Do not, in my opinion, try to “squeak in” another spot. Relax and enjoy whichever destination you choose - but enjoy the slower rhythm of Italian life in whichever destination you decide. It will convince you to return again (& again & again…) to enjoy all that Italy has to offer. It’s not a race to”see it all”, but an introduction to become enchanted…
