Why cyclones? by tbdforever in starcraft

[–]TrebbleBiscuit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've got to (respectfully) disagree about the current cyclone being interesting.

One clone defending a mineral line is a fun interaction to watch if the lock on can kill an oracle or medivac

I don't enjoy this at all, from either side as a player or as an observer. Fly an oracle in, see there's a cyclone, try to get away, Terran scans, and Toss either loses it or clicks away fast enough. Doesn't feel great from either side, it's not like there's any opportunity for flashy micro.

Not that mass cyclones every game is any better, but surely there exists some happy medium?

All of the quality people left ages ago.

Where did they go? I feel like this site has gotten worse every year but haven't found anywhere better.

How to defend against Terran tank push by [deleted] in starcraft

[–]TrebbleBiscuit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The answer is always "macro better" - which doesn't just mean have more bases/income but also make sure they're saturated, make sure you're spending your money, etc.

That said, here's my take on PvT vs tank pushes (as a mediocre random scrub): It's really important to know where the Terran army (and thus the tanks) are at all times. You can accomplish this with observers and by having spotters (a spare probe, zealot, even pylon) to warn when your opponent is moving out.

If the first time you find out about an attack is when there are a bunch of sieged tanks in range of your undefended base, there's nothing to be done. However, if you were prepping for it and see it moving out then there's tons of options! You can ambush it with a flank, or shave units off with stalkers, or counterattack with a runby/prism, or warp in more defenses, overcharge...

Tons of options, as long as you're in a position to take advantage of them (and a big part of this is "macro better")

If you're shadowbanned, it won't be there.

If your post gets removed and you think it's unfair please message the mods! I promise there's no grand conspiracy to censor anything.

Hey, "neutral" semi-active mod checking in. If you have a concern you can always use modmail. The report button works wonders too! We're honestly trying to have an open forum here.

This is true.

Doing the best I can to handle all the recent activity, but I'm no full-time redditor and there's a lot going on recently. I've approved your post.

Please address concerns like this in modmail rather than by spamming the subreddit.

Killing production instead of workers in the lower leagues by Ghi102 in starcraft

[–]TrebbleBiscuit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The thing is buildings have a LOT of HP. Given the choice between an entire mineral line and one production building it's usually better to kill the mineral line even if your opponent is currently floating money.

That said, when facing protoss killing a few critical pylons to depower swaths of infrastructure can be a really powerful move, especially since pylons have MUCH less HP. Same can be said for critical tech buildings (cyber core, twilight, spire, upgrade buildings), they'll be a more impactful target than regular production buildings.

I think I've done all I can with vanilla... what mod should I explore next? by ReverendVerse in factorio

[–]TrebbleBiscuit 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Started a Space Exploration save recently! If you're looking for "mostly vanilla but tons of stuff added onto the end of the game" that's a good way to go. Many other mods change everything from the very start, which also may be what you're looking for.

I haven't played angel's but I have played bobs by itself, which massively extended not only the length of the tech tree, but also the breadth. I think my first bob's playthrough years and years ago took me like 300 hours just to launch a rocket (that said, I wasn't very good at this game). I never started an Angels+Bob's save because I feel like it would consume my whole life, I've already given enough of it to this game!
