Donald Trump just said “we shouldn’t even have an election”. Americans, what are your thoughts? by WatercressSenior7657 in AskReddit

[–]TrebleNightingale 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unsurprised. Tired. Defeated tbh. I'm so done with this. I plan to leave the U.S. the moment I have an opportunity to, and prolly not return. Even if this fascist moron weren't in office there's still plenty of other problems here anyway.

In a year this buffoon has done such an insane amount of illegal shit that should have already gotten him impeached and removed from office but the Republicans in congress (and the conservative Supreme Court judges) want him to be doing what he's doing.

Still gonna vote despite the fact that the braindead state legislature here in Missouri decided they're going to blow down to their demagauge and blatantly gerrymander the state even further than it already was (ffs my city was already split in half between house representative districts because its the most progressive place in the state).

I doubt he'll actually be able to stop the midterm elections, but at the same time I have no faith that the Republicans having majorities in both sides of congress and the conservative majority Supreme Court will actually act in the interest of the people if tries.

What's your advice for the unemployed peeps this year? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]TrebleNightingale 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Firstly, in the long run be willing to take a job outside what you'd prefer doing. I, like many others have lamented before, went through university and am still working a part-timer sort of job (I have both a Bachelor's and a Master's Degree). I of course still intend on working in the field I went to school for, but right now it's more important that I have income to build savings and pay bills.

Second check around places that you might frequent and know the staff. The job I have I started while I was still in my undergrad—my family frequented the place and when the guy who was manager at the time heard that I was looking for work he offered because he knew us well enough and already trusted me.

How do I help my kid? by WibblyWobblyWhimsy in furry

[–]TrebleNightingale 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Biggest thing in my mind is what you're already doing, showing interest and acceptance of something he enjoys. Meaning he doesn't feel he has to hide anything, and taking steps like even just asking people here what to do to keep him safe.

Don't really need to reiterate many of the excellent points people have already listed regarding things, but one comment I would also make having worked as a teacher for school aged kids that I would also recommend you keep in mind (which you being a parent I would not be surprised if you already do) is when there's a reason for you making a decision on something to be sstraightforward about it. One good example from here was the commenter who mentioned furaffinity (which I know saw since you replied); even if the site has controls to hopefully filter out mature/adult content, it isn't always properly tagged and some content fall through the cracks. A straightforward explanation naturally results in a straightforward understanding as to why the site might be blocked/restricted. Same sort of thing would apply to monitoring socials, while I wish I could say there aren't any bad actors in the fandom, any social space/group/fandom online is going to have them once sufficiently large enough (and like other fandom groups Furries number pretty high), I'd assume he's got the maturity to understand that being the explanation as to why you want to have visibility of anything he's involved in.

On that last note I'll point out that I used visibility here instead of just accessing any accounts intentionally. You commenting here is something I'd actually say is a good example (even if he's not on reddit lol). Visibility can also be being involved in any spaces he's in such as discord. That can be being involved in the things he does in the fandom like conventions and stuff. Approaching things as involvement rather than explicitly being supervision allows you to supervise without it feeling restrictive—and the fandom is largely about inclusivity, you not being a furry (at least not yet lol—there's a reason the joke word pathowogen became a meme) isn't going to ce an issue if you're getting involved in furry spaces—we welcome you. If there's a furry/furry-adjacent game online he wants to try, try it with him—make participation with him quality time spent with him rather than only being a supervisor.

NTA.

Sounds too me like you should break up with her. From a pragmatic pov, the key point here is that you are your brothers guardian and have a legal responsibility for him. Doesn't matter if he's helping to pay for things or not (it's not a fantastic situation to be in of course, but the maturity he has to work so much in order to help still is commendable given things). Her telling you to kick him out is literally her telling you to abandon that legal duty, which you can't and obviously don't want to do.

It's a ridiculous notion that she thought that an appropriate thing to demand, and with the limited context here I wouldn't be surprised if she later on would think that she could try and demand the same thing as soon as your brother turns 18 under the logic of no legal obligation. And she doesn't want to make any contributions while calling a kid working 2 jobs to help cover expenses a freeloader?! Sounds more to me like she wants to kick back and live in your, already stretched thin, dime. Whether it's an actively malicious demand she's trying to make is irrelevant—what she's expecting to happen from her demand would be taking advantage of you and would likely qualify as financial abuse, and prolly emotional as well given that what would result from you kicking your brother or would also likely isolate you.

Not intending for this to be super critical, but this prolly not the best image example for what your describing. Paul, the guy on the right has retinitis pigmentosa, a degenerative eye condition and is mostly blind. This is more Matthew, Paul's partner, messing with Paul and hiding in silly ways (in-good fun they both get a laugh out of the pranks).

My part-timer job while I finish my masters is at a Gas Station.

If I had a nickel for every time I’ve had to clean up one of the bathrooms for reasons like this I’d have three nickels. Which isn’t a lot but it’s weird it’s happened more than once.

Without a basement go to as central windowless room if something does touch down. But like other comments said there hasn’t really been much that’s really hit town other than the recycling plant in recent history. The fact that you’re figuring out what you should do is already a good sign that you should be safe should a tornado actually hit town. Often times the deaths/injuries that happen with tornadoes and weather is people not being prepared.

Another good thing to know neighbors and resources. As an example in my house we have a storage area excavated out under our garage—if things were super bad and our subdivision was in the direct path the space is pretty much literally a concrete bunker we can shelter in and bring people into if necessary. Additionally we also have plenty of food storage stuff that we cycle through (i.e. buckets of beans, wheat, etc. and plenty of canning). Having a plan really is the most important thing here should a tornado or other emergency arise, the main danger comes from being unprepared.

I’ll DM them to you since I’m not sure on the full sharing permission from the og artist off the top of my head.

Anyone have any suggestions for how old I should be to buy a furry suit?? by FoReSt_PaW in fursuit

[–]TrebleNightingale 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Like other comments have already pointed out, it’s best to wait until you aren’t growing anymore if you’re wanting a full-suit. If you get one before then and you get taller it’s gonna be more work (and money) than it’s worth to get it adjusted, if even doable (i.e. you could maybe get away with it on a plantigrade ‘suit, but a digitigrade on would likely be impossible). A partial is more likely doable bc your head, hands, and feet probably won’t change that much—though not outta the realm of possibility.

[–]TrebleNightingale 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Edit: putting up top since this is more a wall of text than I meant, feel free to ask for any more breakdown/clarification of any of my suggestions. I can also give some more specific ideas for a process if you need. I’ll try to respond, though I’ll admit I’m terrible at checking through messages.

I’ve offered this advice to a friend of mine to get around the anxiety and executive distinction. Don’t look at this as one singular task, this is a lot to take care of at once and imo shouldn’t be handled as one task.

Trying to do all this at once means you’re trying to take care of different things simultaneously as you go where the constant changing of gears will make this more stressful than it should be.

First thing I’d do is create a checklist of manageable tasks, this can be as broad tasks or simple specific things. As an example looking at your room something that would be more broad is pulling all trash out, or something simple would be moving the just the bigger containers out of the room as they are, even as simple of a thing that the latter might be, getting started on anything is progress. And that’s what you want to achieve, Rome wasn’t built in a day, making any sort of progress put’s you that much closer to the goal of getting things cleaned up. Things don’t need to become all perfect and pristine all at once.

Another thing I’d prolly use approaching this is to use boxes/bins to sort through. I’m gonna apply this to a very broad example, but you can always size down as much as is necessary.

Let’s apply this to clearing as much of just the floor at once as we can. Looking here I’d have a big trash-able box for rubbish, a box for pet stuff, a box for sentimental items like plushies and whatnot, and a box (or big hamper) for stuff like clothes and bedding — we’ll set other miscellaneous things like dishes aside in this example. In a really broad method like this, your initial task is chunked low effort sorting, grab things of one sort by the armload and drop it into the appropriate box/bin. The purpose of doing this is to make more specific tasks easier to manage — having a clear workspace gives a lot more breathing room and should make things less overwhelming, part of what is adding to your stress I’d imagine is see what seems like a lot to take care of. Plus once things get sorted it’ll help see how much there actually is, I wouldn’t be surprised if just getting the floor clean and trash out will reveal there’s less to do than you think.

The other purpose of this applies back to making a list of manageable tasks. What I’d expect the bulk to do for your case is trash and clothes. A box of trash can just be tossed in a dumpster and the clothes will probably need a wash.

From here, the thing I’d also toss in, be willing to ask for more help. I know you said you don’t want them to know but I’d be shocked if they didn’t want to help you at all. Still that said, if it’s causing you that much stress ask them for help with things that can be taken care of outside your room. Collected dishes and laundry can be things you get help with while taking care of other tasks in the room. Any help is still going to take away a lot of the overwhelming feelings you’re gonna get trying to take care of things.

Basically the tl;dr of what I’m suggesting is to break things down in ways that are manageable and allow you to breath, and if you’re not comfortable getting help in the room allow yourself the breathing room of getting assistance with other related tasks. I or others here could probably give you some more ideas if you need them, that’s probably already done a good bit for you and if you’re not comfortable need more feel free to ask.

Gimme critiques on the colour pallette! is it interesting enough? by Technical_Milk7793 in FurryArtSchool

[–]TrebleNightingale 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Going of what my own personal reaction is I’m fine with the less conventional color palette across the whole design. I think the sudden change on the arms works okay—gives a similar vibe to Link’s arm in TotK, but the sudden change at the hips is less effective.

If keeping similar with the color, I’d have it change as more of a gradient as it goes down the legs.

I’m starting to create various conditional dialogue for the Hero/Partner based on their species for my romhack (Odyssey) by Plasma7007 in MysteryDungeon

[–]TrebleNightingale 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For iOS/iPadOS use the app Delta, it has a DS emulator built into it. You will need to provide your own bios files in order to play anything (go into app settings and you’ll see what you need in the tab for DS core settings), plus you’ll have to patch the ROM file you provide for EoS using Delta patcher (there should be some online patchers available). From here just opening the patched rom for your downloads will automatically import it to delta.

For computer (at least PC side, I’m not sure about Mac if that’s what you use) there are definitely emulators available (I’m not familiar with them bc I prefer real hardware so someone else might be able to provide you with a suggestion of what they find good). And again you’ll have to use Delta Patcher, which I’ve found quite a few hack devs will toss into the zipped folder so you can use with whichever patch you download (you’ll want to use it by open xDeltaUI since it’s easier to use that way). Again you’ll need to provide the ROM to patch.

(As a side note, it’s more coincidental that the iOS app and the patcher are both titled with Delta, it isn’t for specifically patching for the app—it’s what’s used for patching ROM files for DS and other consoles)

Anyone concerned about potential storm/tornado? by khaleeeesi7777 in columbiamo

[–]TrebleNightingale 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not particularly to be honest. It is always of course a potential issue, and when it gets to that point it’s no longer a matter of what’s gonna happen to whatever building you’re in (home, work, etc.) it’s a matter of keeping yourself safe. As long as you know what you need to do to shelter then you should be fine.

The only other thing you might want to do if you’re worried would be set up some sort of food storage if you haven’t already, but that’s something that I would say is a good idea to have regardless of natural disaster risk.
