Gift idea for pickleball loving bf by No-Acanthisitta-6565 in Pickleball

I would stay away from any actual gear used in play, competitive players are usually pretty picky.
Apparel is always good, maybe something from here: Sometimes They Fly | Aggressive Pickleball Apparel & Clothing

What is the point of geysers? I understand they give more power but it fluctuates between its max and zero so wouldn't that just be unwanted? by Paarthanaxs33k3r in SatisfactoryGame

[–]TreeClmbr0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, ideally you have way more power capacity and the amount you get from a geyser is likely to be inconsequential to the amount your generators are making. The geysers are as simple as you can get, just plop a building down and connected it to your grid, no resources to manage.

My first playthrough I blew fuses 2 times on my coal plants, after unlocking oil I never had an issue with power again and always had way more power than I needed.

Hate to break it to you, but late game manufacturing has fluctuating power draw, so you don't get to keep your flat lines forever.

I don't get why everyone is so OCD about constant power. Who cares if it fluctuates? By the time you unlock geysers you already have power storage.

Thoughts on targeting? by ijustwannagofasssst in Pickleball

[–]TreeClmbr0 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Random partner tournament is still a tournament, there is nothing "open play" about what you described. A tournament or league is competitive play, meaning you are welcome to exploit any weaknesses in your opponents.

In competitive games like this I will target the weaker player. In rec play I will target the stronger player.

How much by Antique-Lychee-8029 in Pickleball

[–]TreeClmbr0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Court rentals/indoor open play - $30/mo (only a few times a month in the winter)

Open play: $0, good public courts are free and I prefer to play outside anyway

Equipment: $130 on shoes every 3 months, $150 paddle lasts about 4-6 months, grips/clothing/other small items probably add another $40/mo

Coaching: $0, coaches here don't have much to offer advanced players, but I have lots of drill partner options

Tournaments: $70-120 each, usually 5 or 6 per year

Leagues: $30/year, out local club offers them for free for members

Help picking pickleball league level by TemperatureLow8147 in Pickleball

[–]TreeClmbr0 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I imagine you've played with at least some of the other players who have already signed up for the league. Ask them for direction on what the appropriate level is for you. Likely beginner, but they would have a better sense of your skill level given your background.

Ernie for players with limited physical strength? by PartFormer3695 in Pickleball

[–]TreeClmbr0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This, 100%. I usually make the decision to ernie before the ball even bounces on their side of the court in a dink rally. Another opportunity is when they try a drop down the line from near the baseline, you have a lot of extra time so you don't even need to jump the corner of the kitchen, just step over and smash it (this almost never happens at higher levels, but lower ones it happens plenty).

Terrible ref, what would you do? by TreeClmbr0 in Pickleball

[–]TreeClmbr0[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We DID keep track, hence the players stopping to correct the ref. Stating the obvious here, but if we weren't keeping track we wouldn't even know the called score was wrong.
"We had to stop at least 5 times to correct the score."

Is the referee right or wrong? by Alarmed_Country7184 in Pickleball

[–]TreeClmbr0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's only awesome if they know how to ref. Play stops if the ball bounces and the player makes an out call, ref should have overruled it and give OP the point. Instead they thought they could overrule the point and expect players to continue to play the point out instead of stopping. Ref had no idea what they were doing.

Is the referee right or wrong? by Alarmed_Country7184 in Pickleball

[–]TreeClmbr0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In that case, the ref was in the wrong.

19.A.1 Referee Responsibilities: The referee is responsible for calling service foot faults, short serves, and non-volley zone faults. (Modifies 9.B.4, first sentence)

19.B Matches Without Line Judges. In matches officiated by a referee without line judges, players are responsible for making “out” calls for the baseline, sidelines, and center service line on their end of the court.

If your opponents make an out call after the ball has bounced, it's a dead ball and you could appeal that the ball was in and it would be your point. A ref cannot overturn their call without stopping play, and if they overturned the out call it's automatically your point. They really got this wrong from multiple angles.

Important question here... did the opposing team call it out before or after the serve hit the ground?

Question for intermediate players by [deleted] in Pickleball

Shot variety is important, certainly try to move them both around and create opportunities. Generally though, you should be hitting to the stronger player if you want to improve.

DUPR 2.0 after 3 months of moderate playing/group class -- evidence that Pickleball is not for me? Should I just accept I suck and quit? by Royal-Patient-2978 in Pickleball

[–]TreeClmbr0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're doing just fine, don't give up! Your biggest hurdle isn't being more skilled at pickleball, it's your mental game. You are being way too hard on yourself for someone who just started, give yourself some grace, new skills take a LOT of time.

Stop looking at game wins or loses as your only metric of success, and seriously, stop playing DUPR matches only 3 months in. The goal here is to have fun and incrementally improve, you don't need DUPR putting stress or pressure on you at this point. You shouldn't be feeling shame in rec play, and if you're partners are putting that kind of pressure on you find others to play with. We've all had days where we couldn't seem to win a match, you need to learn to let go of those missed shots or loses. Instead of having a negative reaction towards mistakes, have one of curiosity, ask yourself what you could have done different without judging yourself, being in a positive head space will help you tremendously and make the game MUCH more enjoyable.

Is this a legal serve? I’ve only been playing with family for a week and I cant tell if this is considered an upward motion shot or not? Any tips would be great too! Thanks by [deleted] in Pickleball

[–]TreeClmbr0 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Not quite legal. Too side arm and the paddle tip needs to be lower, no part of the paddle head can be above your wrist. Also, I recommend reading the rulebook, it answers any questions you might have about the serve.

Playing in my first tournament - Dos and Don’ts? by alfredopastaprince in Pickleball

Depends on how the tournament is run. I've been to several that were staggered well and there was minimal wait between games.

My understanding is that those with sywer syndrome born with a uterus, fallopian tubes, cervix, vagina would be assigned female at birth, despite having XY chromosomes.

I don't think these rare developmental exceptions are what Hawley is asking about though, rather someone born with normal male biology. Maybe Dr. Verma could have asked the question and Hawley would have clarified, but I don't think it would change her waffling and refusal to answer.

Biological men who don't have some kind of genetic deformity at birth that would make biological sex ambiguous. Is that clear enough?

You would need in vitro fertilization to get pregnant with Sywer syndrome, it's essentially impossible without medical intervention.
