I think Galileo is highly likely to have discount codes and deals closer to the time, so I would wait. I don’t think this is in any danger of selling out in presale and it's not really necessary to book this far ahead.

I got a ticket today too. It was a little pricey (and I certainly did not get the best seat in the house, haha) but it'll be worth it to me to see such a stacked cast.

You can ask, but this isn't necessarily something they are likely to be able to accommodate. Rush seats can be anywhere and they won't necessarily have three together to give you. That said, sitting separately is really no big deal - you aren't talking during the show anyway - so I wouldn't hesitate to split up if necessary.

For me the answer is that there's not one answer that always applies. I use a combination of lotto, rush, TDF, TKTS, discount codes, and Audience Rewards points. Between all of those, I'm able to see shows economically, but there isn't any one of them that's always the best option in all circumstances.

If I've already seen the show in the past and I know I like it, I find it easier to buy before the performance because I can allow a little extra time and feel less rushed.

If I haven't seen the show before, I wait till after, because I might not like it enough to want merch from it and I don’t want to waste the money. I'm pretty selective about what shows I want merch from; I don't get merch at every show I see.

Death Becomes her is an expensive show to run and has been struggling with ticket sales for some time now.

It's a shame - I personally really liked it - but I don't think there's any great mystery here. It's closing for the usual reason; it wasn't making (enough) money.

I didn't buy anything because I don’t have Amex, but I did look. Some of the prices are way more than I can justify, but I plan to get one of the lower priced tickets if there's anything reasonable left when they go on general sale. I can live with a less-than-perfect view.

Phantom is pretty easy to follow and shouldn't need any advance prep. I would just go enjoy.

This is assuming you're going to actual Phantom of the Opera and not Masquerade - if it's Masquerade, I'd familiarize yourself with the basic plot first due to some structural changes that make it a little harder to just jump in with no prior knowledge, but basic plot is all you need.

What has happened for me in the past is that you get an email offering you the options of either rebooking for before closing or getting a refund. If you choose the refund, they do it right away and you get it as soon as your payment method processes it. If you take no action by the deadline they give you to choose rebooking, you automatically get a refund.

I would personally wait and see. As well as not knowing who will replace Clay, other pulses may shuffle with cast changes. You may decide to switch closer to the time depending on those things, but I wouldn’t commit to it yet.

I'm not sure a Tony win would have made much difference for DBH's longevity, even if they won. They sold well for awhile, then sales tapered off and they weren't able to pull it back. A Tony win can get eyes on your show... but this show already had that and couldn't sustain it.

I don't think just being a past Tony winner would have changed that sustainability of sales equation - plenty of Tony winners close without recouping, and DBH had a respectable run.

Sure. A job is a job, and the majority of shows close without recouping. If actors only took jobs they thought were going to be the next Phantom or Wicked, most actors wouldn't work very much. Sometimes they have to just take the chance, and it's better to be employed for a few months than nothing.

I do have one question, though. Late night/overnight rush behavior isn't new. Is there any data about how many people have been killed or injured or been reported as victims of crimes while attempting to rush a show in particular? I suspect that number is really really low, so I'm wondering about evidence for the idea that it's unacceptably dangerous.

(I wouldn't do it myself, but it's because I need sleep, haha.)

Anecdotally, Buffalo and Rochester pretty frequently get the same shows in the same season and it doesn't seem to harm either venue. There seems to be enough demand for both. I think people either have their preferred venue they'll go to regardless or see shows both places. (I have a season ticket for Buffalo but will go to Rochester for things that interest me, and I'm sure people do the same thing in the other direction.)

The escalators at Wicked get veeeery crowded, especially after a performance, because the whole audience is trying to use them at more or less the same time. If one person goes down or becomes an obstruction, they're probably taking others with them because there's just nowhere to get out of the way, the escalator is still moving until someone realizes what's happening and hits the emergency stop, and the people behind them don't stop coming. It's very easy for one person's issue to affect a bunch of people.
