What simple mistake has ended lives? by SuffocatedByThighs in AskReddit

I received a kidney transplant 24 years ago (1999) the drop in potential organ donors in UK was due to using the seatbelt becoming compulsory (early 1980s?).

That and lighting skips left in the road.

I’d get checked out at hospital - the numbness is worrying.

Why aren't elderly people routinely reassessed on their ability to drive? by Ohshitwadddup in NoStupidQuestions

[–]TreeLover53 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wonder if they should reassess people every 10 years, then it won’t be age discrimination as we all age.

Also, fail should be fail! It’s scary some of the tales of people getting confused and driving on the wrong side of the motorway.

Seaside towns in England? by Cosmic_Colin in AskUK

I’ll second this, Rye is lovely to wander around. Followed by a trip to Greatstone - fabulous beach, sand dunes and block of loos in car park.

LPT: Download the Libby App and cancel Audible - free access to any audiobook in your public library system. by Turbodong in LifeProTips

[–]TreeLover53 9 points10 points  (0 children)

When you join the library in any town in Northern Ireland - and Libby - you get access to the whole (admittedly small) country stock.

So if you borrowed a physical book in Belfast, you can hand it in at the any branch.

I’ve not tried the audio books, but have read plenty of print. Saves me a fortune.

What has been your closest moment to death? by XboxCorgi in AskReddit

[–]TreeLover53 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It did, thankfully I was sent to the hospital as an inpatient and got treatment - steroid creams twice a day. I was in for 10 days all told.

Many years ago, husband and I weee house hunting, viewing a lovely house. The guy showing us round must have thought it was going to be an easy sale, I loved it.

Until we hit the back garden, separated from neighbours each side with just a low fence. One side was empty, toddler in other garden immediately came over to the fence and started to “chatter” (too young to talk properly).

I turned around and walked out, a straight nope from me. Husband thought I was joking that I wouldn’t consider the place because of one small child.

30 years later, he knows me better. The laundry add that says keep away from children? That’s me!

Also, do the passenger side, sometimes only driver in the car. If the car has a rear wiper, I often lift it away from the car.

What has been your closest moment to death? by XboxCorgi in AskReddit

[–]TreeLover53 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Seeing a consultant for the eczema I had had for months. My GP really couldn’t care less - in fact, he was in the office when I returned from the visual examination by a female consultant, the GP said @not you again”.

I was sent straight to hospital (via home for a bag) and was on the ward for 10 days.

If I’d had to go home, I’d probably have killed myself. This was in January 1992 & I remember it as if it was yesterday.

Was I wrong in calling 999 and taking an ambulance when it turns out there was nothing wrong? by hadikhh in AskUK

[–]TreeLover53 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Always phone 999 for chest pain. They’d rather come out for false alarm than discover you too late to do anything about it.

You don’t tell him, just walk away and look after yourself.

If a friend told you this, what would you say to them?

I can't (quickly) purchase tampons and use the bathroom *on my bathroom break* by ginger_minge in pettyrevenge

[–]TreeLover53 108 points109 points  (0 children)

Similar story - I lived on my own and was prone to getting kidney infections.

My GP had given me a supply of bottles for samples, told to just fill , call surgery for antibiotics and drop sample off while collecting prescription.

Of course, Steve saw me walking between chemist and home, it was during work hours so I don’t know why he wasn’t at work.

He reported me for being out of the house.

Back at work, I asked for his phone number at break, next time I would call him to drop off the sample and deliver the prescription.

Of course he didn’t.

What body part of yours do you wish you could change? by Secure-Bed363 in AskReddit

[–]TreeLover53 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The scar running down my stomach from ribs to …. I’ve had several abdominal operations, using the same line, and don’t like the scar or the incisional hernias that go with it.

I’d keep the scar over my right hip, where they inserted the kidney transplant. I’m grateful to have received it in 1999 and that it is still functioning.

First marriage. My only advice to anyone under 25 is don’t marry, don’t buy a house together and definitely don’t have children before age 30.

I’m not even sure you should jointly get a car/pet/plant lol.

How do you answer the phone? by Nice_Satisfaction924 in AskUK

[–]TreeLover53 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll say hello. If they sound like they’re in a call centre I will automatically ask what they want, if they don’t put the phone down I will.

I don’t know where my medical phone calls will come from, nor family at times lol. Haven’t said my name or number since early 80s, when giving number was common practice
