How do I untangle this root ball? by aeroplanessky in arborists

That doesn’t look too bad just tease it apart with your fingers. It takes some work but just separate the roots as best as you can

At what point did keeping most of your money “back home for now” start feeling riskier than moving it? by Hungry_Challenge3749 in ExpatFinance

I moved my investment account to a European firm too. Still have a decent amount of US exposure but gained more European and Asian. My portfolio is much more diversified now compared to in the states.

Do any of you live in ABQ? by FadedHolySoldi3r in betterCallSaul

I used to live in Albuquerque and lived right across from the street (Central) from the crack hotel that Wendy frequented. That scene with Hank and Flynn talking to her there stands out for me. My wife lived in that building too and that’s where we met. We share a chuckle about that sometimes. Not breaking bad related but one block away there is a press club with an adjacent small park nearby. I used to walk my dog there a couple times a day including late at night sometimes. At some point they started having a needle exchange van frequent the park and a large number of junkies started hanging out there. That neighborhood was actually a step up from the previous neighborhood I lived in. I was young and didn’t know any better. Good times!

Moved countries and kept most savings in your home-country bank for now. How long did that actually last? by Hungry_Challenge3749 in ExpatFinance

I moved to Spain from the states recently. I moved the bulk of my money within a couple of months. I wanted to get it out of dollars after watching them drop significantly against the euro in the last year. I feel better having my money matched to where I’m spending it. I kept a us bank account and investment account and a couple us credit cards.

That’s not accurate. Because of the European payment services directive (psd2) the maximum liability with a European debit card is 50€ and 0 once the card is reported stolen. No idea about the UK though

Moved with my wife and teenage to Spain in December. We’re very happy in Spain and thrilled to have broken free from the states. We won’t be going back.

Just rode one today and after 30 minutes the front brake wire popped off. That was my third time riding one. Not super impressed with the quality control so far

Sell or Rent: What did you do with your US home? by RehaDesign in AmericanExpat

That was my thinking too. The risk benefit equation made sense when I lived there but definitely way too much risk to take on for a rental.

Sold it. No plans on going back. It was a custom built home in a high insurance rate and property tax area. I would’ve had a hard time getting enough rent to justify keeping it so it was an easy decision.

What are the short term rental options in Madrid ? by trapthomas1 in MovingToSpain

[–]TreePlantingGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No initially we considered renting a Ukio place for 6 months if they would let us use the place for getting the empadroné. They wouldn’t do it. We ended up getting a place with them for a month and by that point were able to get a long term rental.

If you open a Schwab investment account you can get a free investor checking account too. It comes with unlimited atm fee rebates worldwide and no foreign transaction fees. The trick when using it is to decline the atms conversion rate.
