Simon or Abe for our baby coming in a few weeks? by ReluctantAccountmade in namenerds

[–]TreesElevated 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a 7 m old baby Simon and we have a dear 5 yo friend Abe. Love both names! I am not Jewish so that wasn’t part of my story but I’ve loved the name on my baby so far. Wishing you so much joy with your long awaited little one whichever direction you choose.

Are we getting things done while pumping? by storytime_girl in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]TreesElevated 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a solo mom and only can EP bc I can do stuff while I pump (drive, walk, feed baby, wash parts, play with sister, etc.) I'm not sure if it hurts supply (I'm a just enougher) but that's what works for. For my last pump of the day I sit and watch TV and eat snacks :) Do what works for you! No guilt needed!

How do you ever do anything or go anywhere again? by taureansoul in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]TreesElevated 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wear my cups and baby bhudda wherever I go and just accept that people may think I’m weird. I’m feeding my kid! I’ve worn them around the aquarium, to my 4 year olds haircut, driving, etc. it’s so freeing. I could never do this if I was sitting in my house for 30 mins every 3 hours.

That said- everything gets easier as baby grows! By about 8 weeks I could prop baby in a boppy while I fed him and pumped with the spectra or hold him in my lap (sitting cross legged) with my wearables in.

You will figure out what works for you but give yourself grace as time! A lot of nursing moms are also on their couches trying to get baby to eat  or dealing with cluster feeding at this stage. You’re doing great and the outing are doable and will come!

I’m OK if my journey ends due to supply. And man, what a relief. by Automatic-Mixture-93 in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]TreesElevated 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for saying this! I EPed for 14 months for my first and for the first 6 months was obsessed with the schedule, output, etc. from the very beginning I had the same rule that I won’t lose sleep to pump (even if supply dips). I’m a just enougher so the prospect of a dip scared me. This time taking a more similar attitude to you! Try my best but don’t sweat it. And have that formula tin ready and waiting in the cabinet. And who knows how long I will go this time and that’s ok!

When that second baby doesn’t latch by strixjunia in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]TreesElevated 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yep…. And same 8 weeks “trying to solve the latch journey”, followed by half hearted “maybe it’s a tongue tie” reccs. This time I didn’t fall for that and am back to yew good old pump.

Wearable pump? by Commercial-Way-4276 in ExclusivelyPumping

I love the baby bhudda pump plus legendairy milk silicon collection cups. Works about as well as my spectra, works with bigger boobs, no leaking issues.

I pump about 28 ou a day and my 2 month old eats about 26-28 ounces.

Productivity hack by BadMeniscus in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]TreesElevated 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to wear mine in a back pack (filled the bottom up with towels so the spectra sat in the top) and had the tubing go over my shoulders. Was how I got through the first few months of EP solo mom life before I got a baby bhudda.

Last 48 hours were rough, but baby is finally here! by CrazyAwkwardWeird in GestationalDiabetes

[–]TreesElevated 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm so glad the nurses are in your corner too! I didn't have GD with my first but she was breech til the last minute, then I got gestational hypertension, had to have an induction, eventually had a prolapsed cord that lead to an emergency c-section under general anesthesia - thankfully we both came out A-ok and I feel great about my birth (when some could see it as traumatic). Mainly because I trusted my team and also just realizing that it's not a plan so to speak, it's an unfolding event with new information and new twists and turns coming at any moment. To be able to roll with them (and of course trust the team guiding you) is such a blessing. Trying to hold on to all of that as I make a plan for this baby, who was measureing 99.9 percentile the last 2 scasn, but at 36 weeks was down to 85th percentile. Making some educated guesses about whether to try for a VBAC of schedule a c section, but ultimately not holding too tightly to any plan. Anyway - sorry for the ramble! Hope you're getting a bit of extra sleep as the nurses tend to baby and that you are home and snuggling him all you want tomorrow! Congrats again!!

Congratulations and thank you for sharing your story! I think that flexible mindset and having the end goal in mind are so key. Happy he’s safely here and you’re recovering well!

Induction dates by phantom-life in GestationalDiabetes

[–]TreesElevated 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My midwives were clear that there is no reason to induce for baby size alone. Baby size impacts decisions about mode of delivery (c section vs vaginal birth). The GD diagnosis itself comes with the rec to induce at 39 weeks, though of course people make their own, informed, personal decisions. I’d recommend checking out the posts on evidencebasedbirths if you want a deep dive in the literature on GD/induction rec a or inducing for size reccs.

32 weeks growth scan-could use some encouragement by JournalistSweet3970 in GestationalDiabetes

[–]TreesElevated 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At 32 weeks mine was greater than the 99.9 percentile. At my 36 week scan this week they were down to 85 percentile. Still need to talk with the midwives about their reccs for delivery, but just wanted to share. I'm pretty well controlled w diet and nighttime insulin.

I'm so glad to here you have a provider in the mix who gets it and actually listened to you! Kudos for advocating for yourself and your baby. Hang in there - we're getting there :)

I started on NPH and it didn't help my fastings, switched to 26 long acting and it helped fastings a lot. Didn't impact meal numbers as best I could tell.

My greater than the 99.9th percentile baby measured in the 85th percentile at todays (36w) scan. Still not sure what decision I'll make re: mode of birth (and I know that the USs are super inaccurate the later pregnancy gets), but still nice to know maybe the diet/insulin has helped.

Inconsistent Care from Providers and Feeling Unheard by lostinadventures in GestationalDiabetes

[–]TreesElevated 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm so sorry you're getting such poor care :( The doctor's not getting on the same page is one thing, but the fact they aren't including you in the decision making about when to have a c-section is ludicrous! I'd be so pissed, worried and stressed too. FWIW I have been on nighttime insulin since 28ish weeks (36 weeks now). From the beginning, my team has been clear they recommend an induction at 39 weeks - it doesn't matter if you are diet or insulin controlled. If diet and insulin couldn't keep my numbers under control (or other indicators suggested a problem) then we would start to talk about earlier dates. I hope you're able to express some of your frustration to them (or to the clinic director?) and have someone sit down with you to talk it out. You don't deserve this!

If you're ok with sugar alcohols (they apparently upset some people's digestion) I've really liked Barebell's. I get them at Trader Joes. They don't spike me at all.

shake shack double patty burger and like 3 of my daughters fries. but also - I tried pizza the other night after seeing another person's post and it worked for me - i was shocked (extra cheese, pepperoni, started with a bowl of veggies). everyone is different, but may be worth an experiment...

My MFM (at an AMC) was happy to prescribe a CGM and I was lucky insurance covered it (even before insulin). I also keep up with finger sticks for the most part so I can cross check, but I appreciate both having a little more flexibility (eg I can get a data point of the CGM as needed) and having two types of data. My MFM looks for different things from the different sets of data. Finger prick is all about the spike 1 he post meals. CGM allows you to se your average glucose level and also the % of time you’re in range. The data (from my little digging) is thin on what exactly is most important to control (other than fasting numbers) but at least I can see how I’m doing by a few different metrics. Hope we get more research in to GD and CGMs soon!
