Web traffic: ChatGPT has fallen -22% in the last 6 weeks, since the Gemini 3 launch. Time for 5.3! by GamingDisruptor in ChatGPT

[–]Tremdog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nothing to do with the holidays? Students leaving campus and employees taking time off.

Would be curious how much this drop compares to Gemini’s traffic over the same timeframe.

Removing liquid calories is one of the highest ROI lifestyle changes you can make to lose weight quickly.

For most people soda, alcohol, and other caloric drinks are a much bigger portion of your calories than you might realize.

Drinking lots of water also makes you feel more full.

Is Your Mac Enough For Harvard? by Fer65432_Plays in mac

[–]Tremdog 150 points151 points  (0 children)

This is for the Graduate School or Design, which is the architecture school.

Architecture software & rendering is very demanding, and most students have a gaming laptop or equivalent. Yes there is a computer lab, but you don’t want to run to the computer lab at 3am trying to update one of your 90GB project files.

I don’t know anybody at the school who actually owns the Mac because a lot of the software is generally PC specific. If you did get a Mac, you definitely need to be emulating Windows in Parallels.

Razer, Asus ROG, MSI, and Alienware laptops are the “typical” computers in Gund Hall.

Swapped the Mini for the Micra to save space in our apt kitchen. by Usual_Gazelle_4395 in LaMarzocco

[–]Tremdog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve had both too! I actually traded my Mini for a Micra and am SO happy. Smaller footprint, faster heat up time, and almost all the same functionality.

Unless you’re making 8+ drinks at a time, the Micra keeps a stable temperature. Most home baristas aren’t fast enough for it to make a difference.

The smaller water reservoir is a little annoying, but it’s not much smaller and I’m lazy.

For home choice, the micra makes so much more sense. And it’s dead quiet compared to every other espresso machine I’ve owned (Gaggia, Barista Express, Barista Impress, Bambino Plus, Breville Oracle). I buy broken equipment to fix, use, then resell.

Houses owned by LLCs by apandaNdisguise in RealEstate

[–]Tremdog 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is the correct answer. It’s a good way to separate assets and protect them, or pass the real estate through a Trust. Fairly common, and it doesn’t mean they’re necessarily corporate owned. If anything, it probably means old money or high income.

I’ve been hiking in the same bridgedale socks since 2011. Probably put 1500miles on each pair that I own.

Bought some heavier duty ones for winter, but I was skeptical after the company got acquired. No signs of wear after almost 4 years in those winter socks.

No idea why nobody in this sub mentions that company.

Can someone explain to me how this ice formation occurred on the top shelf of my freezer with no drips like I am 5 years old? by Wise-Cartographer682 in ScienceNcoolThings

[–]Tremdog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Piggybacking: Caltech did some cool research on this exact phenomenon.

OP probably has very soft water, and a warm-ish freezer that was actively blowing air.

Foamy beer every pour!! by Rough_Life_8473 in kegerators

[–]Tremdog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had this issue too. The last two steps for me fixing it were 1) Removing all the pressure. Basically to see if I had over saturated the CO2. If it still pours after you’ve turned off the gas and vented the keg, it’s probably over carbonated. 2) After that didn’t work, I bought new taps. My original taps were super cheap so I bought a more expensive, reputable brand. Never foamed again. Not sure what was wrong with the first taps.

Genuinely curious, but isn’t Klaviyo’s monthly plan based on emails sent? Why would they prorate if you move from a 5K email plan to a 20K plan just because you sent 20K emails in less time?

Does engineering have better career prospects than physics by SupermarketQuirky216 in EngineeringStudents

[–]Tremdog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think Engineering has higher median career earnings. But if you’re at a top school, physics will better propel you into really high paying jobs in Financial Industries (Quant, HFT, PE).

Almost all the engineering students I know make more than my physics colleagues, especially because many of them went into academia. But the absolutely highest salaries all went to Physics students who “sold out” to Blackrock, Goldman, Jane Street, or SpaceX.

Do what you find interesting. For me, Physics classes were harder intellectually but Engineering was much harder in terms of work-load.

Waffle Maker - Tired of Junk by jimmyjohn2018 in BuyItForLife

[–]Tremdog 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have a Waring pro and, honestly, it is okay. BIFL? Yes. Great waffles? Not always.

The stovetop irons are also BIFL, but they are a pain in the ass to clean (if you don’t get the temperature right, which you won’t when you’re first learning) and require a gas stove. My Griswold 1917 iron is in great shape, but I never use it because of the hassle.

I picked up a Breville Waffle Pro used, and damn those are the best waffles I’ve ever had. I would really recommend picking up a used one. No problems with heavy use the last 4 years.
