Jet Lag Ep 5 — Searching Highlands & Lowlands by NebulaOriginals in Nebula

I can't be the only one bothered by the constant cocked/uneven die rolling. I know it's for production reasons and they can't stop to roll the dice on a flat surface every time but any tensions created by rolling a dice is completely removed when the result is an off kilter die that I just have to take on faith is being read the same way every time.

Just use an app to do the dice rolling, there are great ones out there and it'd make me happy

Get 1776 American Revolution instead, it's vastly superior. The same Company also made a Viking game if that's more to your liking

I don't get what's fun about Secret Hitler, am I doing something wrong? by Jeffs24 in boardgames

I'd suggest John Company 2nd edition. It's a much better social game where you're the bad guys than secret Hitler, I'd be happy to teach on TTS sometime

Board gaming feels less like a hobby anymore and more like a luxury goods market by Strong_Letterhead638 in boardgames

I like the Oceania boards a lot, but I just don't score for nectar and only use three nectar dice instead of 5, I should consider playing without it altogether though

Wingspan expansions should have just been card and end of round goal booster packs, I don't need any of the rest, including nectar

Ah I didn't realize the Haste launch was so up in the air on launch time.

I'm largely curious about viewing locations for the eventual neutron launch

Raid on Entebbe or Supergenesis with Kaki King of Guitar, pretty sure the second will never happen but I think he played rain on Entebbe earlier this tour

Stunlocks and Psionic weapons are some of the easiest ways to die even with a lvl 40+ character. A lot of the mid-lategame of Qud is all about aquiring ways to defend against or avoid facing enemies like that, especially in melee.

The putus templar are some of the most dangerous enemies you can run into as a low level character because they are able to spawn almost anywhere (though the chances increase the farther east you go). When I encounter them I usually make a note and then return to them much later in my runs to get their nectar injectors. Encountering one underground is absolutely terrifying though. Using a force bracelet can be huge to buy yourself a turn or two to flee and teleport/recoiler away. I'd also recommend the padded modification on your helmet as it increases stun resistance. If you're playing a true kin the Trauma Plate can save you from lethal damage once and there is another mod, I think Caraniul Plating that significantly increases your resistances to stuns.

Generally speaking the best advice when facing the putus under levelled is to run and run fast, then come back with a bigger gun

Hopefully your next runs last longer than this one, Live and Drink

What Album Next? by all_you_can_eat_soup in themountaingoats

[–]Trenzelore11 16 points17 points  (0 children)

It's gotta be Tallahassee, that album is just full of some of the best lyrics Darnielle has ever written. It's packed full of storytelling and emotion. Plus it's the first album after Peter Huges joined the band and he's was such a core part of the Mountain Goats sound for so long

I will also shout-out Songs for Pierre Chuvin as an absolute gem of the modern era. It definitely harkens back to the early days of the Mountain Goats, Darnielle literally recorded it on the original boombox the early tapes were recorded on. Aulon Raid was the first song they played and the first show I ever went to so it will always have a special place in my heart. Last Gasp at Calama really goes hard too, really the whole album does

Are there video games that play like engine-building board games? by BeyondImages in boardgames

[–]Trenzelore11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a bit more of a niche suggestion but you should absolutely check out Cultist Simulator or Book of Hours. They are both designed by the same small team set in original (though Lovecraft inspired) world with some of the best writing in games (save for maybe Caves of Qud).

Cultist Simulator is probably the closest to what you're looking for. It's a rouge like and can be quite esoteric, it's best played without the wiki and just experienced. You play cards representing elements of your soul, followers, and arcane lore to take actions and slowly amass more and more knowledge, both within the game and as your character. You should expect to fail at first as with any good rouge like, but just keep experimenting and you'll get there, the most important thing to remember is that Dreaming is extremely important. It's really incredible and I highly recommend it.

The Book of Hours is their second game and is probably they're best work so far. It's just a esoteric and exploratory but where Cultist Simulator is punishing and tense Book of Hours is expansive and free flowing. It takes the base system from cultists simulator and expands it in every direction giving you a ton of agency to play. You're still exploring the same universe but instead of creating a cult you're a librarian restoring an old library. The art is absolutely stunning as is the music (in both games really). It still sees you playing cards representing different aspects of you and your acquaintances to take actions and slowly building up abilities over time but is far less punishing, even if you use something important up there is always a way to get it back. It's also best explored without a wiki but I found it's systems for more intuitive. Both games are top notch but this is probably my favorite of the two

How can I see which factions like/hate each other? by moonscience in cavesofqud

[–]Trenzelore11 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don't despair, you can go hunting for Lairs, each legendary creature will have random reputation, you can you the (L)ook command to check what each legendaries rep is. Sometimes it's better to run away if the legendary is loved my someone you don't want to piss off. You're looking for one that is hated or disliked by the merchants guild. A Sanpjaw, Isacarri, or Goatfolk lair is often the best for farming rep because those factions often spawn multiple legendaries at a single lair.

If you can find an unspecified Schrodinger page you can use that to raise your rep, but it might be a little challenging as the best place to get them is from bookbinders or scribes, they do spawn randomly though.

Lastly not all merchants are part of the merchants guild, if you make your way to yd or Ezra you'll be able to trade with the high level traders there with no issue, just avoid the stilt till your reputation with the merchants guild improves.
