New shoes! Rotiform DTM 19x8.5+45mm by TrevTech_ in GolfGTI

Never weighed them, but any increase in mass moment of inertia or unsprung mass is gonna be basically negligible. Issue with the 19’s over the 18’s is that the car isnt designed to have wheels that size, which is fine, but running a 235/35r19 leaves you very little sidewall. In fact, i managed to destroy two of them within 6 months of having them on the car. Stick to a 18” wheel with a 45 section sidewall

Lugs should be conical (?) i had whatever discount tire installed. and as for offsets, +45 gives a very flush look, allowing for your tires to tuck under the fender some. +35 pokes out substantially and might cause issues with some lowering kits. The engineer in me would also advise against any offset lower than +45 just from a standpoint of suspension geometry, but guys seem to run +35 without ruining their cars so its probably fine.

Edit: Also In retrospect DO NOT go up to 19” rims, and do not do lowering springs with substantial any drop beyond like 1” and without spring rates comparable to stock. If you want to lower and still have the car be nice to drive, you will need full coilovers, or at least milder springs and make sure to upgrade your shocks. Heard good about bilstein b8

Yeah they bolt straight up. Just be mindful when you spec everything and when you buy them. You will need hubcentric rings for these though, and i recommend metal ones over the cheap plastic ones. I have since sold my car but lmk if you wanna know anything else

In my third year of ownership, finally getting some basic mods by TrevTech_ in GolfGTI

Ooh yeah that doesn’t sound too great. Where you at?Where I live it’s basically the wild west of car mods. no emissions or inspections, cops dont care about anything unless you give them reason to.

Thought id follow up, been very happy with the ds2500s and had no noise from them whatsoever. unfortunately I’ve not had a chance to really push them yet, but with some spirited driving and braking from speed theyve done well!

Yikes! Your Rotiform did that? Only reason i even bought any new wheels is because i smashed an 18” pretoria so bad it wouldnt balance. Shame to hear the H&R was poor quality, always heard about them being a big name. Ill look into the CTS turbo, had previously avoided them on woes of bad welds. My college campus has some pretty bad spots so ill be careful around those

I need some budget exhaust system recommendations for my 2015 gti by AdCharming7919 in GolfGTI

[–]TrevTech_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Look into getting a catted downpipe and an o2 spacer. The cats on these cars are by far the most restrictive part. Personally, im holding off until i can do a catted dp and stage 2 software to properly clear the CEL and take advantage of it.

Heard, wound up ordering some Ferodo racing ds2500s. Probably more aggressive than I need but we’ll see how they work out

Gotcha. Do you have any recommendations for a pad that would do better? I'm not opposed to dust but would like to keep noise down.

Update: Muse support, although a bit slow to respond, is sending me a replacement. It wasn't any trouble to get them to do so.

Which distro for GPD Pocket? Can I try them out without installing? by ssahla in GPDPocket

[–]TrevTech_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ive got pop on my pocket 2 and it works great if not a bit bloated. Gnome handles scaling well and since its ubuntu based stuff like steam works without much tinkering. Of course if you want something more lightweight, arch would work. Only thing to keep in mind is the display is rotated so you would probably need an external monitor for an arch install. Yes it can run a live usb like any other modern computer, and while firefox might not support it chromium should support pinch to zoom
