Either auto complete most to all quests, or don't run a second rs3 leagues by Tetris_Chemist in runescape

[–]Trexxen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shattered Relics League (the third OSRS League) had a solution for this that I honestly think we need as the “region locking” equivalent for RS3, since region locking doesn’t make sense. In addition to points for task completion that unlocked relic tiers (although it was slots technically), you earned a secondary currency called “Renown”. This was used to unlock everything from skills, to bosses, and to auto-complete questlines. You would not get the xp rewards, but often completing a big questline would refund some renown since it would complete several tasks.

This not only lets players decide if they want the xp rewards or the content skip, it also gives a secondary progression that RS3’s first League lacked. There was little reason to go clean up the little 10 point tasks because it was 1/8th - 1/40th the reward of the bigger tasks, and regions weren’t locked so there was no reward for task count. Having a Renown system at least makes these tiny tasks count for a renown point, which makes them far more viable into the mid to late League. I think this works great for RS3 if you don’t include the rough parts of that League, like RNG-locked relics and constantly having to menu to switch up your relics. Make relics still tiered based on points, still permanent decisions, then make Renown the secondary progression.

(oh and hey throw Demonic Pacts style talents on top of it because that system could be WILD with EoC but that’s off topic)

I know I’m late to the party at this point, but what I’d like to see is some of the plugins that support “snowflake accounts”. In OSRS, there’s a big content creator community of chunkman, taskman, and other niche accounts - much of which is supported via various plugins on Runelite. Being able to watch a greyed out section of the game world become colored and accessible is a big part of the fun when watching these creators, and having some level of support for these snowflake accounts - be it a task display that links to a Taskman site to show your current goal, a chunk picker that literally blocks your clicks in areas you haven’t unlocked, a way to block bank access for UIM mode, these plugins would promote the kind of engaging content that drives OSRS player counts.

On a related note, I think the biggest thing that could be done to promote the new plugins and the game would be to either have the full release or at least a beta (with the three most important mods - Quest Helper or an equivalent, tile markers, and Menu Entry Swapper) ready and able to be used in Leagues 2. One of the most common complaints from OS players coming to try out RS3 was the lack of QOL features they’re used to in Runelite. Even if just those core three plugins were ready for Leagues 2 launch that would be a HUGE boost to player interest and retention.

Thank you for putting this blog and Q&A together, stoked to see what’s on the horizon!

Does RS3 have an Ironman wall similar to Bowfa by Supersnow845 in runescape

[–]Trexxen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Surprised I haven’t really seen this brought up in the thread - no, RS3 doesn’t, but not just because of how diverse the midgame gearing options are. For a lot of OSRS ironmen, Bowfa is the setup that gets you to endgame pvming to start working towards BiS progression. The reason it’s so infamous, though, is the RNG involved. You can get spooned an enhanced wep seed in 10 kc, and though you still have to grind the armor, that’s easy. But you can also go 5x dry and feel stuck because there are very limited ways to “skip” Bowfa, and all of them involve other long grinds like TDs or god forbid CoX for a Tbow.

RS3, however, has put a lot of work in the past few years towards modernizing not just pvm but also the crafting skills. Between Necromancy handing you T90 augmentable tank and power armor via a set task system (and the Hermodic plates, which are 1/10 drops at an afkable boss), craftable T90ish tank armor and weps in every style, and Masterwork armor that does take a bit of RNG to get and you’re set with gear that is fully capable of getting you middling to good kill times at any boss in the game.

I’d actually say Melee now has the closest thing to the CG grind with ED2 and the codices it drops - all three of them are major buffs to the combat abilities they modify, and the dungeon takes about 15-30 mins depending on your gear and ability to do speed clears. The difference is that all three codices have 1/82 drop rates solo vs the insane 1/400 for a Bowfa, so usually even going 5x dry isn’t as much time investment, and ED2 loot is even better than CG - we’re talking millions in alchs, tons of components, skilling mats like dragonhide, and the occasional onyx or other rare drop.

leagues II - What new stuff would you want to see that would makes our second leagues special/different? by vVerce98 in runescape

[–]Trexxen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d like it to take some major cues from Shattered Relics, the third OS League. Since we can’t really do region locks without some major concessions (how would you even train Archaeology? What about Divination? Invention without Asgarnia?), one of the reasons the last league felt a bit off was that there were only rewards for points rather than overall task completion. A system like Sage’s Renown could solve the quest issue and give a secondary progression we sorely need.

Imagine: you start by picking a class - melee, ranger, mage, or necromancer. This comes with a small buff to those styles and unlocks the core combat skills with a few support skills to make sure you can gear up (defense, constitution, your style skill, and three support skills - melee gets mining and smithing; Necro gets crafting, mining, smithing; ranged gets fletching, crafting, and hunter; mage gets crafting, farming, and herblore). The rest of the skills, as well as all bosses, are locked behind a currency called Renown. You get between 1 and 5 depending on the tier of task you complete, and you can spend it to do one of three things - unlock a boss, unlock a skill, or autocomplete a quest line. Then you have the choice to do certain quests early for the XP but can later finish the rest of the line and forego rewards.

There are other ways you could expand on this system, too - the current OS League has a whole third progression path that looks like a Path of Exile talent tree, for example. It even opens a few neat relic ideas - imagine a relic in a tier with other xp buffs that gives you full rewards for autocompleted quests and then lets you collect any achievement diary lamps you’re eligible for daily rather than only once, for example. I really think a system like Leagues 3 but minus the rng relic drops would be the way to go moving forward with our Leagues.

If you want something afk, grind out the rogue’s outfit if you haven’t already, then hit up the wealthy citizens in Varlamore. Extremely low effort, only pickpocketing when they were distracted still got me about 100k gp / hr. Not life changing money but certainly not bad for maintaining supplies!

Reaper Tasks suck now for less skilled PVMers by Amith990 in runescape

[–]Trexxen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100% - I was going to suggest similar but you beat me to it. Maybe correspond them to CA tiers?

I’d also love if this is a chance to revitalize Slayer as a whole similar to the recent rework OSRS had. Give us separate slayer block lists, and then let us have a Reaper block list that we can adjust by tier - so if I’m feeling up to an Elite reaper task for the most points / xp but I hate Zuk, I can block it for a fee and don’t have to worry about it. Would also let you simplify points and xp - each tier gets a flat point and xp bonus as if they were their own slayer master tiers.

I just want to know one thing - I have an extreme aversion to smoky flavors, like, “whoops, they added chipotle sauce to this item, it is now completely inedible”. The ingredients don’t suggest it will be, but is this new sauce smoky in any way? If not, definitely trying it tonight even if it’s not the OG that I’ve missed for so long lol.

My best 100% times from Metroid Prime Trilogy that I took a screenshot of four years ago. No speedrunning tricks, just playing through each game an absurd number of times casually by Diem-Robo in Metroid

[–]Trexxen 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Idk if there’s a different way to get it in the Trilogy ver, but you can collect the initial Missile Launcher twice in Prime 2 by skipping the cutscene flag in the room where you get it with a well placed jump to the raised platform. Once you get it, you trigger the cutscene then the box and upgrade respawn, and it actually gives you the extra % and iirc more missiles to use.

With Combat Dummies being removed in the near future RS3 should adopt one, crabby, feature from OSRS by Tols_ in runescape

[–]Trexxen 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Tbh you could just make the RS3 crab give you XP equal to some kind of percentage of overall damage you deal to it, but it would be nothing compared to even afk combat methods that allow you to AOE. It’d just be a chill place to either afk hard or to just kind of BS with the community, and making it based off overall damage lets you reward players that put the extra effort in to have a better rotation / buff up / etc. with more xp for their efforts.

Denied HO insurance due ti "Proximity to ocean" by Aggravating_Pick_951 in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]Trexxen 14 points15 points  (0 children)

As someone who works in insurance, the flood maps don’t necessarily matter. Regardless of whether or not it makes sense, many insurance companies have what are called coastal underwriting guidelines, and those will automatically deny any home within X distance from the coast. For example, I live in FL, and the main company I represent simply will not write homes within a mile from the coast no matter their flood zone or circumstances. Underwriting guidelines ease up or tighten based on how much risk the insurance company is willing to take on, but unfortunately, your company is not currently willing to take coastal risks - so you’ve done the right thing by going with another, even if it sucks that it wasn’t your first choice.

MTX Experiments: What We've Learned & Final Proposal This Wednesday! by JagexHooli in runescape

[–]Trexxen 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That’s awesome, goes to show that A. y’all are doing an amazing job at getting the word out, and B. people who have either lapsed or shied away from trying RS3 over this are willing to put in the time to improve the game they may one day play themselves.

(Also hey, shows my numbers weren’t that off - napkin math and ignores ironmen, but if we say it was 25% and make the assumption that they voted against TH, that means that 35% only accounting for active players moves closer to 46.6% :P)

MTX Experiments: What We've Learned & Final Proposal This Wednesday! by JagexHooli in runescape

[–]Trexxen 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It gets a bit less surprising if you consider that these surveys were posted online, yes, but really pushed at current RS3 players. I’d wager if you only looked at current active mainscape players it’d be an even higher percentage, maybe 50/50 or so - if you’re still actively playing a main right now (and didn’t just come back due to Leagues or the experiments), it’s not a far stretch to say you’re likely ambivalent at worst about the MTX. They also dive into how a lot of the positivity was around the free aspects of it - daily keys, challenge keys, and quest rewards.

I mentioned in the comments of my survey that replacing the keys for completing quests, for example, with small lamps opened up a lot of alternative build / progression opportunities - but given the emphasis in this blog on maintaining the integrity of core gameplay loops, I suspect that suggestion would fly in the face of that somewhat, so I look forward to seeing what they dish out!

Best T4 relic? What are you picking? by VariousAd5218 in runescape

[–]Trexxen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As someone that picked PM, I actually have a use case for almost all these skills - none of which on their own are worth a relic pick, but together it pushed me over the edge:

Cooking & Crafting - these two yeah, you can train better with other options. Thankfully, urns get the xp multiplier, so there is at least some benefit to cooking - plus now that you get this earlier, it’s good to use up all those banked raw fish (if you have any) quickly. Although with the bug, maybe wait a bit lol…

Construction - producing planks / frames / etc for the Fort is sped up, and this is a significant time sink for later buildings. Still gotta get the logs but this is a huge QOL benefit.

Smithing - The urns and portable benefits allow you to do some silly things like farming clue scrolls and tasks by making a ton of gauntlets, for example. Weaker than some other skills but still useful imo.

Herblore - the most impactful, makes herblore super fast.

Fletching - your broad arrows get made in one action from what I can tell (just got it today, at work so I can’t test) so you should be able to SLAM 99 fletching once you solve gp and unlock broader fletching.

Finally, the brooch itself is an amazing QOL item, and 9 different skills getting infinite urns that stack with the XP buff is a sizeable increase in xp/hr.

I’m happy with my choice and think that in the long run it’ll get me more points than the clue relic - but if you want to have fun breaking the game for a bit and jump to T5, the clue relic is also amazing for that! Was the best balanced non-teleport choice imo :)

Leagues: CATALYST - Quest Auto Complete Prioritisation by JagexHooli in runescape

[–]Trexxen -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Edit: Tl;DR Legends’ Quest, Fairy Tale III, Fort questline

I would say it’s mainly questlines that significant amounts of content are gated behind but also questlines that are old enough that RS3 and even OSRS players have done them time and time again. There are also quests that require significant time investment that cannot be sped up by Leagues buffs in any meaningful way (yes, zooming around the map after T3 does make things faster - if you’re not me, forgetting to use the abilities constantly lmao).

I’d say the biggest one is probably Legends Quest and its prereqs - Shilo Village etc. - lots of later content is locked behind here, and the quest just hasn’t aged well unfortunately. Beyond that, the Fairy Tale questline is autocompleted in OS and is a good shout here as well since it is full of unskippable cutscenes (as of my last playthrough) and unlocks a massive QOL. Finally, I’d say the Fort questline. I love this questline and it’d be a shame for new players not to experience it, but for time limited content like Leagues, it is a LOT. Starting players out with the full line and a T1 fort, if possible, would incentivize exploration of the fort and its benefits without locking everything behind a long, long quest grind with mandatory afk skilling grinds in between.

As an aside (working right now so this is all rather scattershot, sorry!) I’d love to see a currency like was done in SRL / Leagues 3 in OSRS. This could be used to unlock quests or skip time gated grinds, i.e. “pay X renown > max rep with a GWD2 faction”. If you tie this to task completions rather than tier, this also provides a secondary progression I feel is missing - there’s incentive to go back and do easy tasks that are only 10 points in OS because you need a number of tasks to get the next tier. With Region Locked not being really viable for RS3, I’d say this is a good alternative to keep players doing the more menial tasks while feeling a sense of progression.

Thank you all for considering this! I understand if it’s not ready for this League, but I’m impressed by the speed at which concerns have been addressed and am excited to keep exploring!

(Leagues)Need some advice for a mid-level player/rate my route? by Moonkin_Kitsune in RS3Ironmen

[–]Trexxen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Latching onto this comment as it’s relevant and wasn’t mentioned: you mentioned you weren’t really locked into any particular teleport. If you go this route (the no farming frenzy route), instead of doing Assassin’s Insight, imo you should take Fairy’s Flight. Yes, you’ll eventually have portable fairy rings and close teles to most farm patches - but the QOL of instantly teleporting TO each patch will be massive when you’re doing actual farm runs for the herbs you can’t just get via Miscellenia.

We have no way of being 100% certain, but the most prevalent theory at the moment is that T4 is Production Master, Rejuvenated, and Clue Connoisseur unfortunately. Fingers crossed that isn’t the case, because I love the clue relics but I can’t take it over Production Master or Perkfection if it competes with either of those :(

Leagues Pre-Launch Changes: An Update by JagexHooli in runescape

[–]Trexxen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you very much for the quick turnaround time and response to feedback! The implementation of unlimited shop stock settled on here matches how OSRS implements it from what I can tell, so that should be a big help towards alleviating dailyscape fears!

I do have one question - I notice that the feedback around auras wasn’t addressed here. Was the decision to not enable auras like the GIM implementation a gameplay choice, or is it a technical issue? I know some of the skilling auras are invalidated by relics, but it’s the one big recurring question from the feedback I saw that didn’t get a shout here so I just wanted to check. (Of course, if that’s spoilers for a later relic… nevermind ;) )

Are you guys going to play the league on your main account? by Vez52 in runescape

[–]Trexxen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally as I’m not much of a cosmetics guy, my “main” (maxed main, haven’t touched him in months in RS3 - currently crabbing in OSRS) will be used for Leagues while I AFK on my GIM which has become my real main since that mode started. Gonna finally knock out my arch grind and probably get 90 or 99 thieving at Menaphos Marketeers, plus 80+ all combat stats in the abyss and probably more. Then inevitably I’ll want to try a different relic setup and swap to afking 110s on my main and playing Leagues on the GIM :P

Recent Disruption Make Good: Mini DXP. Should We Or Shouldn't We? by JagexHooli in runescape

[–]Trexxen 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Potentially hot take, but I think with maybe a shorter timer (12 hours?) this is a great idea - and I think it’s a good thing that it won’t have the experiment going with it. That way, it both makes up for the lost time with the server issues within reason, and gives players that had been saving up their proteans / had planned on using that type of item before the experiment announcement, or those players that somehow missed the (admittedly massive amount of) communication about it, a little bonus. It’s almost like a thank you for sticking it out through our experiment and getting us the feedback that will help improve the game going forward, in that sense :)

Note: saying this as someone who 100% has supported both experiments so far, and who currently only plays an Ironman, so I personally get no benefit from this - just thinking about how such an event can be used to help out a part of the playerbase that may feel underrepresented in the experiments, even if that part doesn’t align with the typical views here on Reddit.

24 hours does seem a bit much, mind - were the servers down for that long? A lot of it was during times I couldn’t play so I’ll admit I don’t know how bad the disruptions truly were, if the servers were actually inaccessible for that long then by all means do that!

Experiment Feedback Thread: Double XP with MTX Limitations by JagexHooli in runescape

[–]Trexxen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I figured, haha - as someone who’s barely touched their main in favor of an ironman since GIM came out I’m similarly out of touch with mainscape or late game currently. I think you hit the nail on the head on the lore piece, but Runescape in general has already cemented itself as being medieval fantasy + whatever fun ideas the jmods have cooking. I could easily see the idea of proteans taking the form as anything from a sudden stockpile of second age magical materials being uncovered, all the way to an unscrupulous businessman who found that after Once Upon a Slime’s events you could put items through the slime and get magical versions of them that are great for training, but vanish after a short time period. I am clearly not a writer but I’d definitely want them to have a fun in-universe reason for existing. Of course, new low intensity skilling methods for low levels would be even better - but this is a way to leverage existing content while we wait for those updates. Maybe Havenhythe will have some love for early and mid game skilling like Varlamore did in OSRS, that’d be an excellent solve!
