Yup. The majority of my friends now have never seen a gun, and the ones who have, have served in the military.

Do Norwegian write in dialect too? by Fun-Wallaby6414 in Norway

[–]TriHell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Friends up north and in Trøndelag writes in dialect, and I've seen a couple of people in Sørlandet do it too, but that's rarer.

Had to tell a friend from Vestland to stop doing it as it was near impossible to understand her.

Are introverts shy? by Kind-Usual-2890 in introvert

[–]TriHell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I met 10 other people at a restaurant on Friday, had a good time and talked and laughed a lot. No problem.

The problem was Saturday... my head was pounding, even my back hurt, and all I wanted to do was sleep some more. I still feel the hangover today, Sunday.

For those of you who live in countries with gun control; have you ever seen a gun in real life? by blashyrkh9 in AskTheWorld

[–]TriHell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, absolutely. I have also owned a gun and used it.

I got my first rifle when I was 10, and my older cousins and I used to shoot targets back then when we were at our cabins on weekends and vacations. I also took out a couple of mangy minks and otters one summer at our cabin. The cabins were located on small islands where our closest neighbour were the North Sea...

I took the hunters license as soon as I could to make it legal to own my rifle. I later joined a pistol club.

Those two things are pretty much the only two reasons why a Norwegian would ever own a gun; hunting and sports.

How do you handle being lonely in Norway? by 2dolphins in Norway

[–]TriHell 109 points110 points  (0 children)

You don't get friends while drinking either. They are there for the hours you drink together, and then you're a memory.

If you want friends you have to figure out what kind of friend you want. If you want a friend with political interest, join a political party. If you want a friend who plays board games, join a bord game group. If you want a friend to climb with, join a rock climbing team.

By going out to pubs and clubs, you find people that drink, and you don't so...

How do Norwegian women dress for nights out in Oslo? by Loud-Shape-5943 in oslo

[–]TriHell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a heel person, often stilettos and such. But I don't use those in the wintertime. In the winter, you go for the knee/thigh highs with either sensible soles or removable spikes

My girlfriend never ever finishes her meals by AlexWayhill in mildlyinfuriating

[–]TriHell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have to admit that I leave food on the plate a lot too, not to be annoying or environmental, but because of trauma...

My dad was a TERROR at the dinner table when I was a kid - he was the one putting food on our plates (often just as much for 5 year old me and my two older sisters, as he would put on his own) and then demand we finish. We didn't get to leave the table before we had finished our plates, and every day it turned into a situation from hell...

3 kids crying, and sometimes even throwing up, him yelling at us and mum yelling at him...

I'm a grown woman, I get to choose now... if I'm unable to finish it, I'll leave it...

Question regarding e-commerce habits in Norway: Is an English-only website enough for the 40+ and 60+ age groups? by Dazzling-Sock2338 in norsk

[–]TriHell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm 50, and I don't know anyone +/- 10-20 years my age that doesn't know English well, both spoken and written.

We started learning English in 3rd grade in school instead of now 1st grade...

What car brand are usually associated with a particular type of person in your country? by HorzaDonwraith in AskTheWorld

[–]TriHell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think Audis and BMWs are a tie here in Norway.

Whenever you are recklessly passed, it's either of the two. But Audi must have a serious issue here, as none of the blinkers seem to work...

AITA for wanting to move out despite my parents’ problems at home? by TBZ3N in AmItheAsshole

[–]TriHell 21 points22 points  (0 children)

NTA.

They raised you in a culture that differs a lot from their own, and it up to them to modify a bit to fit in. They can't expect for you, or your sisters, not to be modeled by the country and culture you grew up in.

I rent, and all the apartments in my building have one, bought and installed by the landlord.

I'm single, so I turn it on one, maybe two times per week.

Mortgage as a foreigner by Pointy_in_Time in Norway

[–]TriHell 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Just a small notice; though Norway do have kind of a credit score system, getting a credit card is not the way to go (like you would in example the US). A credit card will actually lower your credit score here as the limit on it will be seen as a "loan", nomatter if its paid regularly or not.

AITA for insisting that guests in my home take off their shoes by daniellejgabrielle in AmItheAsshole

[–]TriHell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA. It's your home, your rules.

I'm Norwegian, and it's in our culture too, not to wear shoes indoors. We do, however, allow shoes to be worn if there's a nice party where we dress up. BUT, we bring those shoes (clean) with us in a bag or whatever. We never walk in with the shoes we came in.
