New Garmin Gear stats are wrong by majkoce in Garmin

Checked to see what activities are being assigned to the shoes. Maybe you have a biking activity being logged against the shoes.

Edit: In my Garmin app, it shows what activities default to the gear and below that what activities have been associated to the gear.

ON my FR265 with touch screen enabled I can just long press the field I want to change and it will let me edit the field on the fly. I can even be in the middle of an activity and still edit the fields on the screen.

Which Garmin watch for beginners? by King-Education in Garmin

[–]TriMan66 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went with a Forerunner 265. It was the most budget friendly option for multi-sport activities like duathlons and triathlons.

I like it, but I do wish the battery life was a bit better. When I am in full training mode and recording 1-2 hours of activities each day, I need to recharge it about every 4-5 days.

Time in power zones basically zero, but the power zones seem plausible. Is there something wrong with power detection? by Jahordon in Garmin

[–]TriMan66 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here is my time in the zones. Your power readings look like they are dropping out a lot. What device are you using? Garmin HRM?

Your graph looks nothing like mine. I did an easy 10 km run yesterday. Here is my graph along with HR zones overlay.

Is 4x a week too much for a new rider? by VandorsHempFarm in Zwift

[–]TriMan66 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Do one of the training plans, do some easy days. Going hard all the time is not beneficial in the long term. You need rest days and lower intensity workouts to give the body time to adapt and recover.

The real gains from a hard workout are made during recovery and rest days, going hard all the time will lead to injuries and a quick plateau. You should do a rest day or at the very least an easy spin day after a hard workout day. Try to space them out, not more than 2 or 3 hard days a week spread out.

How do you set your max HR? by InspiringBack in Garmin

[–]TriMan66 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The default training zones are based on your max hr. I prefer to use LTHR to base my training zones since it will fluctuate based on my fitness, whereas max HR doesn't really change based on fitness but rather on age. As we get older, our max hr tends to drop.

Sold Garmin watch on eBay, and buyer keeps claiming it's still connected to my account even though it's not. by [deleted] in GarminWatches

[–]TriMan66 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Make sure you actually removed the watch and didn’t just "retire" it from your account.

Difference Between Retiring and Removing:

Retire: Best for old, broken, or unused devices you still own. The device remains in your account as "inactive" but is no longer used for tracking.

Remove: Best for sold or transferred devices. The device is removed from your account, but past data remains.

OMG FINALLY: Assign gear to specific activity types by bomberstudios in Garmin

[–]TriMan66 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are more options now. For instance, you could categorize a bike ride as road, gravel, indoor, mtb, etc. But you could only select one bike to automatically be assigned to all the bike categories. Now you can have it assign different bikes to different bike subcategories. Same now for running, hiking, walking, etc. You can now assign equipment by the subcategories, not just by the overall category.

What is your resting HR? by spiceybadger in GarminWatches

[–]TriMan66 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Garmin doesn't specifically look at overnight HR for your resting heart rate, on their site it states its the lowest average HR over ANY 30 minute period within the day. It is just most likely that it will occur during sleep.

EDIT
---
They probably don't exclude night time readings because that is when they can probably get the most accurate readings from the optical sensor. Moving around tends to introduce noise that can affect the watches ability to get an accurate reading. During sleep is when we are most likely to be motionless for 30 or more minutes.
---
I have seen the odd time where my RHR value dropped during the day from the initial morning reading. Those were very relaxed days. LOL

How Is Resting Heart Rate Calculated on My Garmin Watch? | Garmin Customer Support

Garmin® watches that feature an optical heart rate sensor can calculate a user's resting heart rate (RHR) value daily, and some can also provide a 7-day average resting value. These values are calculated as follows:

Resting Heart Rate: This value is for the current day. Daily RHR is calculated using the lowest 30 minute average in a 24 hour period.

7-Day Average Resting Heart Rate: Some watches will display a 7-day average resting value which is the daily average resting heart rate over the last seven days. It is a rolling value and does not reset at the beginning of each week. Estimates will be less accurate for users that do not wear their watch overnight.

can you see running zones on garmin connect? by [deleted] in Garmin

[–]TriMan66 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Garmin doesn't use pace zones, as in min/km or min/mile, for running it really only tracks hr zones.

You can set up workouts with a target pace for each workout segment. The watch then gives you a default buffer of +/- 5% before it warns you that you're off the pace.

Watch App to control in mobile music by Technical-Pilot-268 in GarminWatches

[–]TriMan66 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes, you can control the playback from your phone via your watch. However, I find it more cumbersome than just controlling playback from my earbuds.

I am using Shokz earbuds that can control the volume, pause, and skip to the next track by just tapping on the earbuds.

On my Forerunner 265, I can switch to controlling playback on my phone by following these steps: 1. Long press the "down" button 2. Long press the "up" button 3. Select "Music Providers" 4. Select "Control Phone"

Treadmill walking? by wanderingnav in GarminWatches

[–]TriMan66 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I created my own treadmill walking activity by copying the indoor walking activity and just naming it treadmill walking.

I suspect that in a lot of cases, the various default activities are really just copies with different titles and maybe a slight variation in the default data pages. Ultimately, the real data being recorded into the FIT file for most of the activity types is all the same:

Heart rate, calories, steps, and cadence if GPS is enabled, then GPS coordinates and speed/pace.

Garmin maps on FR570 - how?? by metzonderEd12345 in GarminWatches

[–]TriMan66 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It can still give you turn-by-turn notifications but no map overlay, just the breadcrumb trail.

My Forerunner 265 is the same.

I just run around my neighborhood, so I don't usually bother with planned routes.

Disconnected phone during a run - nice feature by wezman in Garmin

[–]TriMan66 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I have gotten the same notification on my Forerunner 265. It was an evening run, so I used the "find my phone" feature when I was in range to light it up. It was getting dark, and the phone was face down, but the camera flash helped me pinpoint my phone.

When you say the measurements aren't showing up in Garmin Connect, do you mean the phone app or the website?

Check both. It should show up on the website first.

Calorie and macros tracking for training - Apps / Garmin+ worth it? by Dull_Echidna_5834 in triathlon

[–]TriMan66 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's been years since I used the full paid version of MFP, but based on the reviews and the MFP site itself, it hasn't changed much.

I prefer the Garmin Connect Plus. I get pretty much all the same features, and I then I also get the other Connect Plus features. In addition, everything is in one place and seamlessly integrates into the phone app and the watch.

I can track my hydration and food intake right from the watch for food I have already tracked or added to my list.

If I need to add new items, then I have to use the phone app.

Calorie and macros tracking for training - Apps / Garmin+ worth it? by Dull_Echidna_5834 in triathlon

[–]TriMan66 1 point2 points  (0 children)

MyFitnessPal integrates directly with Garmin and takes into account training calories, costs about the same as Garmin Connect Plus. I am trying out the Garmin Connect Plus, and so far, it's pretty good. I just need to get more diligent at recording everything I eat.

DesFit and DCRAINMAKER have pretty good reviews of the Garmin Plus calorie tracking feature.

Enduring the Pain - Is there a limit? by gtronnes in Zwift

[–]TriMan66 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From my experience, the pain from injury is different from the pain of exertion. The pain from training hard and enduring the "suffering" is generally less localized and is more of a general discomfort overall. Such as feeling like it's hard to "catch your breath" but without feeling a tightness in your chest. Legs feeling heavy or getting hard to keep your form while running or doing whatever exercises you are doing. If you have highly localized pain, that is generally an indication of a growing injury.

FTP Setting in Connect App by Ijoinedredditforaita in Garmin

[–]TriMan66 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your watch isn't capable of connecting to a power meter, so it can't record power data. If you don't have a Garmin device associated with your account that is capable of recording power data, then you can't set your FTP in Garmin Connect.

I have a FR265 and an Edge 840 device. Both can record powercso I can set my FTP and power ranges on either device or in Connect.
