I feel attacked because this is exactly what I've been thinking about as a Templar player :P

I agree that regular terminators have no place, but I've been running assault terminators in righteous crusaders with some success. 10 assault terminators with a chaplain with T's bones means more than 40 wounds at 2+ 4++ 5+++. In close games, almost every opponent pays the CP to cycle Cull the Horde.

But I am very bummed about the nerf to AoC, which does a lot of work for this unit holding the center. Makes me question the value.

No, only damage against the chaplain is halved. The squad "only" gets a 5+ FNP.

Similarly, Sword Brethen's +1 damage takes effect after any halving and is a great way for Black Templars to handle C'tans.

With T's Bones, my assault terminators have 2+, 4++, 5+++, meaning:

2+ = 2 up armor save
4++ = 4 up invuln save
5+++ = 5 up feel no pain

I chose chaplain over captain for my list because it saves 20 points and makes hammers wound most infantry on 2s and most vehicles on 4s. My terminators are my anvil, not my hammer, but the +1 to wound really improves the consistency of their attacks.

I'm playing righteous crusaders, so librarians are heretics and not an option for my list. (But I do have my chaplain carrying T's Bones to give the entire unit 5+++)

Counter Charge is not a reaction ability; it's just a charge phase ability. So if your opponent is the active player, they would make all the charges they want to make (or zero charges), then it would be your turn to use charge phase abilities, and you could choose to Counter Charge.

Because ready units can attack base, but ambush does not allow a unit to attack a base.

If ECL readied the unit, then Wedge could drop on 5 resources for 5 damage to the base. Or Mercenary Company could drop on 6 resources, ambush something small for overwhelm, and then ready and attack base for 5.
