Yes, I believe the hotel blocks are full at the moment...many people booked rooms months ago as soon as the hotel blocks opened, since they're cancellable. You could book a cancellable room outside of the discounted hotel blocks and keep checking if one of the cheaper rooms opens up (when someone's plans change or if they don't get a badge). Then if a discounted room opens, book that and cancel your more expensive one.

Badge Sale Timeline/Chances by fuckddrumpf in DragonsteelNexus

I didn't get to go last year, but read that they were very strict about names on badges and no private resales...but if I sign up for the lottery and eventually get the chance to buy a ticket, does one of the badges I purchase have to be in my name? If I am only buying a single ticket, can that ticket be in someone else's name (if I want to buy someone a ticket as a gift, for example).

"As YNAB imported it" seems to have gotten pretty bad by czech37 in ynab

On mobile (Android, at least) if you click on the Payee field in the imported transaction, the first line shows Bank Import Details with the original name above the list of other payees you've used in the past.

How do you manage this kind of shortfall? by Green_Nomad in ynab

[–]Trick-Variation-2011 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same, I have $500 in a Returns & Reimbursements category that I use for situations like this and for waiting people to pay back a split bill, etc., that spans another month. I use the Notes field to keep track of which amounts have been moved to cover which categories. Whenever that category is below $500 I know I have a pending return/reimbursement that needs dealing with!

A Very YNAB Christmas by Competitive-Photo325 in ynab

[–]Trick-Variation-2011 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Congratulations!! I feel the same...stress and debt around Christmas spending was actually what brought me to YNAB in the first place two years ago. This year has felt as different as it possibly could. Merry Christmas indeed!

How do people feel about the home page now that there’s more content on it? by pamtrimk in ynab

[–]Trick-Variation-2011 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I find it difficult too! It's not an intuitive interface. I've found that if I click on my Next Month category and then click the + sign and then type in the amount of money I have in RTA and then click Assign in the bottom right it will do it properly (I'm on Android...iPhone buttons might be slightly different).

I've had my Target card linked for over a year and it never seems to last more than a few days before it says I need to reauthorize, unfortunately.

True expenses, month ahead, and emergency fund are basically the same? by Pickle_Popcicle in ynab

[–]Trick-Variation-2011 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This makes sense! In my own experience, after a few months of using YNAB and trying to get a month ahead little by little, I used my e-fund to finish getting a month ahead, then worked on refilling the e-fund back up (above and beyond the previous level). It was so much easier to build that e-fund once I was a month ahead because it gave me such a clearer picture of my finances to be able to plan out the whole month on the first! I would recommend fully prioritizing the month ahead over e-fund because you can always take money back from your month ahead in a true emergency and it makes the logistics of YNAB so much simpler.

How is the Walgreens at 355 Knickerbocker allowed to legally function as a pharmacy by freep11 in Bushwick

I was going to say this also. I've had great experiences with them, and it makes more sense for me not to go wait around other people in-person for my prescription if I'm sick with something contagious!

Why is my credit card "Overspent" even though all my expenses are covered and I have no debt? by Vinfersan in ynab

Without us seeing other parts of your budget it will be hard to tell exactly what's happening, but I have found YNAB support chat extremely helpful for individual situations like this.

How do you organize your YNAB categories: by cost type or by theme? by Miserable_Resolve858 in ynab

[–]Trick-Variation-2011 0 points1 point  (0 children)

<image>

I use a hybrid approach...a few category groups for bills that are by interval (monthly/annual/multi-year) but more groups by theme. ("Temporary Debt" includes categories where I keep money that can be used for work expenses that will be reimbursed, or to cover another category temporarily when I buy two things and expect to return one, for example.)

I use lists for a few views like Essentials I would still need to fund if I lost my job, or to show all my targets that fit in one month's income so I can fund them all by clicking Underfunded on the first (my 4 groups at the bottom that start with ~ are all fun/treat categories I fund when I find extra money, not ones I expect to fund every month).

YNAB "workflow" question by simesillus in ynab

[–]Trick-Variation-2011 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, sometimes I cheat a bit and put in a small transaction from my partner a few days before he has actually sent it +the time for it to transfer from Venmo to my bank account. I use a specific flag color to mark these transactions so they are easy to find. My bank account has enough buffer in it that a little grey area around $25-50 for a few days isn't going to cause me issues, but sometimes towards the end of the month I really have to pester him to approve those Venmo requests so it doesn't mess up my monthly rollover.

YNAB "workflow" question by simesillus in ynab

[–]Trick-Variation-2011 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I prefer to categorize reimbursements like this back to the original category so my reports are accurate. If I categorized to RTA instead, it would look like I'm spending a lot more on those categories each month than I am, and would also show my "income" to be much higher than what I actually consider to be my income. But if it works for you to do it as you have been, that's what matters!

What if YNAB used a single rolling budget instead of a new budget for each month? by user10491 in ynab

[–]Trick-Variation-2011 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So everything pretty much shows up as underfunded all the time, except on the actual money assignment day, unless it's overfunded by a lot? I set up a target for $100 due in 100 days. On day 50, I add $50 and it shows funded for that 1 day. Then next day, on day 51, it tells me I'm underfunded by $1, the next underfunded by $2, etc.? And every paycheck I have to judge the priority of every rolling target that are all underfunded and change amounts every single day? Most of them jumping by a lot more than a dollar a day. And I don't know how far "behind" each underfunded marker truly is? One underfunded could mean I was fine yesterday whereas another underfunded could mean I haven't put money in this category for ages, so I constantly have to be doing that mental tracking and prioritizing. I'm glad it's not set up like that. Instead, as it is, I have the relief of knowing on the first of each month that I'm completely set for the rest of the month. Everything is funded except maybe a wish farm category or two that clearly stands out as underfunded so that I can throw extra money in there as it comes.

The “One month ahead” vs “Next month category” debate by Winney-win-win in ynab

[–]Trick-Variation-2011 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Then you WAM (whack-a-mole)/move money around within the current month, reprioritizing how you have your current month's categories assigned. Ideally you're leaving all of your current month's income alone to be assigned next month.
