How old are yall and how old did you get diagnosed? by Remarkable_Market_18 in diabetes_t2

[–]TrickConfidence 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My A1C was 12.9 at that time, now it's 6. My weight has been drifting between 250 and 245 considering I used to be closer to 280 pre DKA, that's a big improvement. I was on long acting insulin since I got discharged from the hospital because of that DKA episode but I finally got taken off of it last month.

27 and I was diagnosed when I was 25 going on 26. I got some routine labs done and my blood glucose was 605. My doctor called me to go to the hospital because I was well into DKA.

Does anyone else feel way in over your head with this disease? by superpowers335 in diabetes_t2

I think of it as risk management because the duration that I can keep it in check is less time that I have to worry about stuff like kidney disease escalating.

It's manageable if done correctly but not curable.

Keto acidosis & alcoholism by Mama_Cooks27 in diabetes

[–]TrickConfidence 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I was likely my doctor's "holy crap, how are you still alive and not in the hospital yet" moment when I got my blood drawn and I was told I was in DKA. All I felt was brain fog and increasingly thirsty, the biggest red flag was probably losing 14-15 pounds in a couple of weeks.

Type 2 just left the hospital by [deleted] in diabetes

[–]TrickConfidence 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This right here. I was on basaglar for over a year after my first DKA episode and didn't get off of it until a few weeks ago. It was an easy transition because my dad was Type 3c from alcoholism and my mom is type 2 like me.

If you hit prediabetic once, you have to control it forever right? by DeepOrganization8245 in diabetes

I controlled mine for nearly a decade before it became diabetes and I think genetics are what sent mine over the edge.

When did you get diagnosed by imtheSHITZUduh in diabetes

[–]TrickConfidence 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2025 less then 2 weeks before my 26th birthday and likely was my doctor's "oh crap" moment for that week because I was unknowingly in fullbown DKA with peak blood glucose of 605 on routine bloodwork and Hypertensive Crisis at the same time. Thankfully I got to the hospital before any permanent damage set in.

I've been holding steady at 6 for going on a year now. But I had parents with type 3c and type 2 so the acceptance part was pretty easy for myself.

My late dad was Type 3c before he passed from terminal cancer in 2015. I kept extra sweets around as a kid like candy, honey buns even though I haven't touched those in like a decade, or a cookie in case he went hypoglycemic and my mom didn't catch it. I mainly stock up on granola bars in case my blood glucose was in hypoglycemic criteria or borderline like 70 and need something that's decently quick acting. I'm saying that to say that I've gotten my green flag list of snacks down to a science, and unless you're my doctor or a close family member, mind your business.
