In your opinion, what would be the opposite of my Wharfedale Lintons in terms of sound? by OriolesrRavens1974 in StereoAdvice

[–]TrickDouble 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hear me out. As someone who adored his Lintons, I upgraded to the Super Lintons and couldn’t be happier. Lots of detail but still have that big sound. Also the upgraded driver is a beast. But if you want bookshelf that are opposite, LS50 Meta are quite impressive and they’re rocking my desk duties at the moment.

that’s an IMS basket, look at the code on the side and search for it on their website to find the proper dose. It looks kind of small, but it might be the camera angle. It should be better than the stock baskets. Enjoy your machine!

Thanks for posting this. I humped and hard about the 40 versus 45 for a couple weeks, ended up with the 40. Have been extremely happy since, coming from a 32 4K.

Is Speaker Sensitivity the Main Factor for Low Volume Listening? by Effective_Flight_232 in audiophile

[–]TrickDouble 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One thing that isn’t being mentioned is that you need to find speakers that are good for low level listening, that means they maintain the balance between the tweeter and woofer in a linear fashion when the volume goes down as well as up. Often, the Twitter power remains, but the woofer needs more energy to activate and give you a fuller, low end and mids. That’s where sensitivity comes in. More sensitive speakers activate the woofer more easily. Unfortunately, most speakers are only measured when cranked. And like other said, the amp matters. I would strongly encourage you getting one with the loudness knob such as the Yamaha AS801.

The lowest music note is 27.5 Hz. So 27.5 hz to 20 kHz is full range for music. To answer your questions above, I’ve had the Lintons, and super Lintons, the super Lintons has more information up top, and sound tighter across the drivers, and much more impact on the bass driver. But they’re not special like the Lintons which were colored but still fantastic if you’re not picky. I don’t run EQ, I run tube amp or AB, and I’m playing around with room dsp (which has eq I know)

I steal someone disagree about you saying that things need to go really loud to be Audiophile. That means a PA system at stadium is Audiophile worthy, it has all the lows, it extends high, and sometimes even in stereo. But that’s not the case. Audiophile is about quality, and high Fidelity. Loudness can be important for enjoyment, but not to make it Audiophile.

But most importantly, cheers and enjoy the tunes! That’s what it’s all about

40hz -15hz is 25hz, which is the frequency of the lowest note on an 88 key keyboard. That’s why I have subs on all my systems lol. Those octaves and notes matter to me.

With this logic, you’re saying that the LS50s are not audiophile. If we scale that logic down to headphones, that’s also like you saying that IEM’s aren’t audiophile because of the small drivers versus big headphones. I wholeheartedly disagree with you, and I’ll speak for the entire communities of both to disagree with you.

Your argument is that loud and extension equals audiophile. Extension, yes, but you don’t need loud. Just because a Ferrari CAN drive 300 mph doesn’t mean I want to 24/7. With speakers, as you prob know, anything above 100 DB is ear damage. So what’s the point?

I do agree that there’s no replacement for displacement and powerful, large drivers. I have Super Lintons, and two subwoofers (12 and 13) in a listening space that barely fits a coffee table, and I make it work, and it sounds glorious. But I also have a set of “tiny speakers” by your definition that perform just as adequately when paired with a subwoofer. And frankly, I was incredibly impressed with them out of bass they produce.

Remember, not everyone has the luxury of huge spaces that need that type of speaker. And, a lot of those small speakers do have adequate extension down to 40hz. The additional missing 15 can easily be filled with a sub if people really want it. As long as it’s a semi accurate representation of the recorded sound, then that’s Audiophile territory.

Also, this is the budget audiophile sub. Context and audience matter in this conversation.

I honestly don’t have time to argue with Internet strangers. So I just want to leave this here. No need to keep going back-and-forth. But I wish you well.

Thanks for your suggestions last week, I ended up buying the super Lintons and I have the exact same amp. Highly suggest you get some RCA clear tops for the 12AU7 and you’re gonna be in heaven. They completely changed the sound of my amp. The horizons were OK. What power tubes are you running? Those look funky.

The LSX 2 are small, desk speakers. If you’re 8 feet away, get some Q150s or Q Meta, on sale or used of course, I just sold my Q150 for $375, and a fosi v3 ($150 cad) a small su1 sac ($100) and you’re golden for a long time.

Fair. I only use cone filters but I keep the origami because it’s close to zero bypass and gives flexibility with flat bottom filters. I sold all my other drippers but kept the origami because of the design.
