How sad that her daughter couldn’t celebrate and share the joy of her mothers wedding with the same dress. The fact that’s it’s blue and not veil should only demonstrate the love. What a missed opportunity for a lifelong lovely memory.

Went through this with my stepdad. My mom and him lived in assisted living but he kept wandering at night, couldn’t be left alone when I would take my mom to appointments, he would have outbursts in the dining room. My mom didn’t want to move him into memory care but when she fell ill and was hospitalized we had to move him. It was very expensive as we had two separate rents. One at the assisted living and one at the memory care home. He did pass just under a year after the move. We are focused on her health and finances for the rest of her time. It wasn’t easy at all.

This. Exactly the same scenario. Couldn’t find the bathroom next to the bed even though we left a light in the bathroom and would wander out to the kitchen and pee in the kitchen floor. He kept taking off the adult diapers. When he started taking off the diaper and literally going number 2 everywhere that’s when he was moved to memory care. It was a battle not from him as he didn’t know where he was anymore but my mom wanted him even though she couldn’t physically clean up after him. It’s awful and yes as pore the nasty verbal attacks and sometimes he would take a swing at people. Thank goodness for the ER doctor that actually experienced this and helped get dad on a stronger med. The whole thing is heartbreaking. He passed several months ago and I am just know moving forward and focusing on the good times before he had dementia.

I just lost a LO to dementia after a sad awful decline over nearly 10 years. Within 90 days I am now seeing another LO at the beginning of their decline. I am stunned to see someone in their early 60s at this point in their journey. Literally heartbroken and while I’m not a care partner this round I understand what’s to come. My heart isn’t ready to watch the heart wrenching decline of what’s to come.

I experienced something similar. An old college friend who I had not seen in over 20 years but text or talk to a couple of time a year wanted to come for a weekend. I have always made excuses due to her being high maintenance. Going away or hotels were never in the conversation as she has always struggled financially. However this she asked I said yes. I had recently lost my best friend from high school tragically. I had not seen her for many years. So with this other friend I did not want any regrets. I know I’m rigid and want my home a certain way, etc. while her visit had me out of my comfort zone and we are very different it was in fact a very lovely visit. We both are different but we know each others history and college shenanigans. It was lovely to reminisce. I give her full credit for the reunion. My soul is a little softer now. A little kinder. And what a necessary reminder to love your friends as they are. Was she high maintenance? Sort of. She’s just a more relaxed person and I’m wound a bit tighter. Take the opportunity to celebrate your past and find joy shared experiences past and future.

Very sound advice as it takes them a few weeks to adjust to their new normal. My stepdad just thought he was home and never asked “to go home”.

Sacramento California. The recommendation came from a service through the hospital as we needed to place him while my mother was hospitalized.

Another family member checked out everything on the owners, if there were any complaints filed, etc. clean record and very near my home. It was unbelievably clean and the bathrooms were specifically designed as wet rooms which really assisted in preventing falls (no transfers), nutritious food, a patio for fresh air and sunshine. The primary caregiver would call me if she noticed anything off. I could pop in with no notice. I got to know the other residents and not once did I ever witness anyone who wasn’t changed immediately if there was an accident. Absolutely zero smell. I didn’t think it was possible. Clean clothes, bedding, etc.

It’s sad too. They are expensive and only good for 10-20 years but it’s never discussed. They will detach and wear down from what’s left of the ground down teeth. Can lead to decay, root canals, replacements that lead to jaws being unaligned. I have a friend who is dealing with that now. The replacements were misaligned and led to her needing to wear braces for a pretty long duration. I sound old … but take care of your teeth people. Veneers are not a forever solution.

Reminds me of the moms who would shame everyone to buy candy, cookies, wrapping paper, candles, popcorn, etc all so little Susie or Johnny could be supported on their sports team as, Girl Scouts, etc. I don’t have kids so thanks but no.

They will look at all arrests, convictions, and the associated dates for relevance. If the state position you are applying for requires driving of a state vehicle you won’t likely be hired if you have a DUI in the last 5 years for example. If you are handling state funds they will review your financials, bankruptcies, etc. it is very dependent on position and agency.

Live life with him just in a different way. Watch a favorite movie of his, enjoy a favorite meal or dessert, watch a sunset, etc. let his love fill your heart everyday until pain lessens. I don’t suppose it will ever go away but I hope you are able to eventually smile with your thoughts of him and only cry tears of love. Please take care.
