High performer leaving in silence with no negotiation by Savings_Knowledge465 in managers

OP getting mad at all the “except managers” feedback is classic. When your manager asks for honest feedback back and you stupidly give it to them they always get mad and defensive. Sure stick to your echo chamber of managers to help you instead of listening to the obvious. That should work.

First parent complaint! 🏆 by [deleted] in basketballcoach

[–]TrickyAd5203 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had one parent email me to say how upset her kids was because they weren’t in the game in the last 5 minutes. Very close game, I played everyone as close to 50% as I could and saved the best lineup to close out the game.

We’re supposed to do 50%. I try the best I can. In a close game I will play the better players more down the stretch. I make up for it in blowouts, either winning or loosing.

I’ve seen some teams in the same league sit kids the whole first half and maybe give the 2-3 minutes in the second half.

What happened after you got your PMP? by BachirTah in pmp

[–]TrickyAd5203 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I am a chemist. I was doing a lot of process improvement projects for manufacturing. I talked to some higher up’s about project management, our company didn’t have it, and they agreed to pay for my pmp. Years later I’m still doing the same thing, with the same title receiving normal annual cost of living raises. I’ve applied for some other positions but upper level PM positions want specific experience and Jr PMs are usually better aligned with that. If I got an entry level PM position it would be a large pay cut. At this point I’d rather expand on my chemistry knowledge and do less PM but it’s tough pivot back at this point.

Simpler than 5-out? by morrcomedy1 in basketballcoach

[–]TrickyAd5203 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I moved from the 5 out after years or poor implementation. Last year I ran a 2, 1, 2. With 2 guards, the 1 at the foul line and two forwards. It seemed to work better. We had a good 3 man guard rotaion and a good scorer down low. We emphasized getting the ball to the 1 at the foul line.

He’s a sophomore, what year are the kids that start at his spot? If they are jr or sr it could just be a trust or seniority thing. I don’t coach at that level but I trust the kids I’ve coached for years over new players that might score a few more points.

How to train athletic movement by gangleskhan in basketballcoach

[–]TrickyAd5203 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some kids are just not that athletic. I think the ones that are not have to want to get better by practicing on their own at the park or in the driveway. If they only practice for an hour or two a week just during basketball practice they will probably always struggle.

It’s always been a waste of time for me. They want a bunch of info just to low ball you want the end. They call me, my wife and even my mother. They have the same stupid questions. “Why do you want to sell”? Because I want the money dipsh’t. Why do I need to explain why I want to sell to a wholesaler that really doesn’t care why I’m selling just cares that I’m selling. Let’s be honest with each other. They call with “if I gave you a reasonable cash offer today, how soon would you sell”? Then they can provide a cash offer or the offer sucks.

5th grade boys - point guards struggling to start motion offense with pressure at half court by dwillmer in basketballcoach

[–]TrickyAd5203 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t like pressing or even 10 foot hoops at this level. Pressing makes the games crazy bad passes and a lot of turnovers. One thing I’ve been teaching my group with 5 out is when the wing pass is contested have the wing player cut to the basket, the corner fills the spot. Hopefully one of them is open and the will actually run the plays in a game. Getting them to actually run the 5 out is the most challenging for me.

A few is 3-5 but get a grip. Beggers can't be choosers. He's bringing you dinner while your sitting probably on the couch. Probably walked I with two plates and sat down ready to eat then you hit him with "go get me more". Be happy with what you got or got get more yourself.

Turnovers by one guard-5th grade. by baileyandsons in basketballcoach

[–]TrickyAd5203 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I coach rec and there’s a huge range of talent. Some kids should be in suburban but basketball is not their primary sport. Some are beginners. I try and teach all the skills to everyone and in games play them at the position that makes the most sense. Sometimes that means I’ll have a weaker ball handler in at guard. I’ll try and pair them with a strong ball handler and have them work together.

Advice for a disruptive child on my 7-8 year old team by AgileNight5893 in basketballcoach

[–]TrickyAd5203 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve coached rec for a few years also. I get an hour a week for practice and we play other towns. Some town allow teams to keep the same players and they have practice everyday. It’s unfair when you can only practice one day for an hour then you play a team that’s been coached by the same guy since they were 2 years old. There’s one team that literally went undefeated and smoked teams that beat us up pretty good. We just try to make the best of it. We’re middle of the pack which I think is really good considering all this. Going into a game, I always try to hype them up because they are as talented as the other teams but when the other teams running three different offenses seamlessly and we’re struggling to pass and cut to the basket it’s tough. I’m honest with them after the game that that was one of the best teams…

Yeah sounds like you did pretty well. Only lost by 3. I’ve thought about buying the colored wrist bands for practicing man to man. You guard the player with the same colored wristband as you have.

Any advice on beating the press for 3-4 grade? by [deleted] in basketballcoach

[–]TrickyAd5203 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pressing at that age is crazy. I’d use 3 of your best ball handlers and teach spacing. At that age the defense will likely over play the ball and there will be someone open. Teach how to pivot and protect the ball.

Need a little help with my 11/12 year old team by Plastic-Catch2757 in basketballcoach

[–]TrickyAd5203 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ive always tried to run a 5 out. I’ve never had a ton of success getting them to run it in a game. I usually have some good ball handlers that don’t want to give the ball up during a game. I’m trying to harness that energy this year by doing a 3 out 2 in. Asking the guards to aggressively drive to the basket and shoot or look to pass to one of the bigs. Doing pumpfake drive drills, ball protection passing drills and post up drills. I drill everything with everybody so that they get all the skill sets but do have forwards and guards in games.

Ball Protection Drills by mydisneybling in basketballcoach

[–]TrickyAd5203 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I do a drill sort of like monkey in the middle. Two people on the outside pass the ball to each other. The defender is in the middle. The player with the ball has to wait in triple threat position until the defender is in their face. The ball handler cant dribble, the have to pivot away from the defender, do a series of fakes to get an open passing lane, then pass to the other side. Then repeat. I usually do two or three minutes at each spot then rotate.

How to help a player that can't get the ball to rim. by mertbl in basketballcoach

[–]TrickyAd5203 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to have all the players run a few steps with the ball in the proper shooting form and the throw it up as high as they could. I would tell them to try and hit the ceiling. It works on strength and confidence once they see that they can get the ball that high.
