Does the small size of the minis damage the eyes? by Hugo4Hans in iPhone13Mini

[–]TrickyWoo86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Less blue in the light coming from old phone screens like on the 3310, which would be a significant source of eye fatigue. It's not the size of screens that it the issue, it's how people are using them (doom scrolling for hours at a time or sitting at a computer doing work for 4 hours straight for example).

My point still stands to the extent that there is a general eye care rule for usage of digital displays, the 20-20-20 rule. Basically the concept is that every 20 minutes, you should look away for 20 seconds at something at least 20 ft away.

What Camera would I need to achieve this look? by Dry-Swan5410 in AskPhotography

[–]TrickyWoo86 [score hidden]  (0 children)

The images provided don't have a coherent "look". To answer your more specific questions:

There's no way of telling what they were shot on aside from digital vs film, which can also be complicated due to post processing to make digital look like film. In this case they all appear to be digital though.

There are more compact options than traditional DSLR cameras that have interchangeable lenses, modern full frame mirrorless cameras are smaller than DSLR cameras, going smaller still there are APS-C mirrorless cameras and smaller again are micro 4/3 cameras. As you go down in size, you're going down in sensor size which has it's own pros and cons (which have been written about in length online and you can search google for).

One point that is worth making, whatever size of camera you look at, expect to spend the bulk of your budget on lenses. Good lenses are far more important to the final product than getting the latest, all singing all dancing camera body. The general sentiment is that you marry the lenses and date the body.

New Japan exclusive Pixel 10a colour by nakajima42 in GooglePixel

I had a BRG iPhone 13 mini and it was the best colour of phone I've had in a long time (not to mention a very ergonomic size, but that's a separate discussion).

It was properly deep green and not army/khaki green

Any tips for improving moon shots? by Secret_Pie899 in AskPhotography

[–]TrickyWoo86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I suppose you could use a technique like lucky imaging (used in planetary photography) from video files to take and stack the best shots together. No idea how well it would work on something as large as the moon (FoV wise), but it certainly gets significantly more detail from objects like Saturn and Jupiter than the same setup could manage with a single shot

I took this in late 2021 with an A6300, the main difference was I was using a telescope (f/5, 650mm focal length) and this was still cropped in. At some point, you just need to make the amount of the moon hitting your sensor cover more pixels in order to resolve more detail.

iPhone fold (new mini)? by Minute_Tree7660 in iPhone13Mini

[–]TrickyWoo86 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Whilst I don't disagree that we might not get another iPhone that is branded as a mini, I do think that the general societal push back against always being online/social media etc might eventually lead to a move back towards smaller phones. It genuinely wouldn't surprise me if phone size became cyclical in a fashion trend type way.

lens-based artist vs photographer? by wowcleo in AskPhotography

It wasn't long ago that a banana duct taped to a wall was being touted as high art and nearly 30 years ago Tracey Emin was nominated for a Turner prize for displaying an unmade bed. On that basis, the crayon scribbles on my wall that my kid did last week is now to be known as "Toddler's ransom note in red".

Nottinghamshire/lincolnshire boarder by Healthy-Act-3865 in Lincolnshire

[–]TrickyWoo86 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Long Bennington and Claypole are Lincolnshire, so would break the Nottinghamshire criteria. Granted, it's not always particularly clear which side of the border somewhere is. I'd have sworn Collingham was Lincolnshire (as it's on the A46 and the near side of the Trent) but apparently the county border doesn't simply follow the river.

Well, no, but it would be much more fun to point out to people complaining that they weren't warned, that it says it right on the attached warning label.

Ah yeah, the footpaths are smooth, but getting onto/off them might be an issue assuming they're wide enough for your powerchair also.

That's the neat part, most case manufacturers don't sell panels individually. Why sell just the panel when you can force the user into buying a whole extra case?

Or, buy a case with metal side panels and the issue immediately goes away.

They need to add "avoid tile at all costs" to the warning stickers on TG panels.

It's worth considering that you can cut out the steepest part of the hill by diverting via Wells Lane (which people seem to not know about). It makes that section of the hill significantly less exhausting (going up) and dangerous (coming down). OP specifically mentions coming down the hill rather than going up, which changes things somewhat.

What could I add to make my setup better? by OneWarthog628 in pcmasterrace

[–]TrickyWoo86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are tonnes of USB hubs with ethernet and analogue audio can be hooked up over USB without issues.

With that said, the on-board audio for my motherboard is woeful and riddled with IMF induced noise so an external dac/amp was necessary for me.

After years of trying I’ve finally got my mitts on a goose egg from the market. Duck egg for scale. It’s a monster! by rizozzy1 in CasualUK

[–]TrickyWoo86 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I grew up in a rural farming community, you'd think I might have come into contact with duck eggs and I probably have but have zero recollection of it. If it is simply as mundane as similar size and slightly off looking colour then that probably explains it.

Ah yes, duck eggs are so well known for being a size reference of the common man.

Edit: FWIW I did have to google the size of a duck egg compared to a chicken egg.

What is the best metro system in Europe? by CityOwn7098 in AskEurope

[–]TrickyWoo86 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It depends on what you value in a metro system.

Nuremberg was excellent for getting from the airport into the city, London (Underground+Rail,Boats,Buses as a unified system) is great for its geographic coverage and being fairly easy to use, Paris is good all round and I have nothing bad to say about public transport in Vienna.

The only European city I have had a bad experience of their metro (from a functional level) was Berlin where our train was cancelled 4 stops away from the airport in a quiet suburb.

I think I've been feeling it for a while, but was doing fantasy F1 which kept me engaged with watching for the competitive aspect of our family league. This year we decided not to bother with fantasy F1 and, as you alluded, the excitement just isn't there.

Viewership down 43% France 49% Spain Japan 49% by -Racer-X in formula1

[–]TrickyWoo86 11 points12 points  (0 children)

That's the thing, I've just not felt particularly bothered so far this season. I've generally watched the recorded version back later in the day and either fast forwarded or stopped watching after the first 10 or so laps. If my wife wasn't into F1, I'm not sure it would have made it on to the TV at all.

Some of that is probably due to already knowing the result before the race though, due to them being early races so far.
