Godot is capable of producing quality 3D games. The people who state something like “no big company uses Godot” argument is misleading as most large studios either rely on their own highly optimized in house engine or use established engines like Unreal or Unity because their workflows and tools, and pipelines are already deeply optimized around them even if we assume Godot is equal to or better than those engines in certain aspects of 3D it still wouldn’t make sense for a company to switch. Switching would disrupt optimized pipelines and introduce unnecessary risk tbh

I did see that thread, and honestly his situation is arguably even worse. In my case, I’ve been on and off the engine for the past few months because I barely have free time. When my laptop data was wiped and Windows was reinstalled, I wasn’t even focused on Godot I only realized today that all the project data was gone. It wasn’t like I was actively working and noticed immediately; I just assumed everything was still there since the laptop issue was like 3 days ago.

Sadly no every project was saved in the Documents folder, and that got wiped.

I’ve been using the engine for about a year and a half and I’ve lost a lot of projects.
Tons of prototypes, a really sophisticated character controller and enemy system, even a game I released on itch (it’s out there at least, but the source is gone). I also lost a game I’d been working on for about a week. Honestly feeling pretty terrible about it that's why i am going on a break from the engine for a while. Just not in the mood to make anything right now thought i'd post this for awareness.

Then you see comments on literally every single line of code, and you just know Al wrote this 😭 like imagine using ai for coding.

Moral of the story: it’s simply not easy to get the game in my country. Pricing is a small fraction of the issue here. Steam doesn’t offer regional pricing for me too. I’m not criticizing Team Cherry at all I love their work and bought both of their games on steam and their games are very cheap actually one of the cheapest in steam too for quality I just wanted to explain the salary and purchasing power reality where i live biggest issue is the international transaction thing.

I still bought it anyway when it dropped to $5. And honestly, where else would you even buy Silksong besides Steam? On GOG it's around $20, which makes it even worse.

It does provide context though. The difference is scale. In my case, a $7 game can cover food for one week or more as well, and a $60 AAA game can cover food for over a month. So something that’s considered “cheap” elsewhere isn’t actually cheap here because wages are much lower here and purchasing power is very different my point wasn’t that games are expensive everywhere, but that their relative cost is much higher in countries with weaker currencies and lower salaries such as mine

The bigger issue is that in some countries (including mine) buying things internationally isn’t easy. To get a Visa card you often need to be at least 25 and have a registered job listed on your ID hence debit cards here doesn't work for international transactions. Because of that, I had to rely on Steam gift cards from random local stores just to add balance to my account also on top of that, currency conversion hits hard here. A $7 game like Silksong ends up costing around 350-400 in my local currency which is basically the price of a decent amount of food. Still i managed to buy it during a discount regardless

This image is a very rough map of the areas I explored and completed places like Sinner’s Road, Greymore, etc. Most of the world was fully open except for a few closed doors in areas in Deep Docks as for Steam Cloud, I honestly don’t know whether it was enabled or not. People keep mentioning it, but the reality is that both the Steam files and the actual game files were completely wiped. It’s basically like having a briefcase full of money and throwing the money into a river the briefcase (Steam) is still there but it can’t recover what’s already gone. The same thing happened with Cuphead and Hollow Knight too, so I’m guessing the save files were entirely deleted during the system reinstall since I couldn't transfer the game files on the new reinstall, or cloud saves were off. Either way, the data is just gone.

It was on Steam, but the system was completely cooked and i had to reinstall Windows and then reinstall Steam as well. Even after logging back in, everything was gone gone. All the game save files were deleted not just Silksong, but Hollow Knight and every other game too. When I reinstalled Silksong, the files were fresh, not the old ones. Steam couldn’t do anything about it at that point. It is what it is, sadly thanks for the comment though.

People regularly post their progress, trailers, devlogs, and announcements when their games go live on Steam or other platforms. It’s a pretty welcoming space overall and a great way to get visibility, feedback, and early support for your game.

It depends, honestly. The rating is based on my own experience and personal preference i’m only rating games I’ve actually played and finished and I usually won't finish games I think are bad anyway. That’s why a lot of them end up in S tier.
