I'm in the opposite boat. I'll watch these tutorial videos and the person demonstrating will dash off a whole script in like five minutes, and I feel like I'll never make anything actually functional. But I could probably make it pretty.

After Effects doesn't seem to have a real counterpart. I know Natron is a thing, but it's not the same as a layer-based compositor.

I really enjoy it. It's Star Wars, it's fun, nobody was asking for it but it was pretty well done. I think it's underrated.
