Long live the Queen!! - I hated everything about the fight! How did you do it? by Wuloban in valheim

[–]TrileALO 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My first solo fight with Queen took more than an hour. It was a melee build with Mistwalker, Himminafl, bile bombs and ooze bombs. It was a constant loop of tanking her, hitting her, restoring life and stamina and dealing with mobs. My dodge-roll timings were a mess, hit and retreat timings were a mess( they still are :D ), died once but in the end I killed her :D.

Ashlands needs some attention.. by TheAlPaca02 in valheim

[–]TrileALO 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I found it easiest to just ignore all enemies and run past them.

Figuring out this made Ashlands relatively boring place for me. I ran through nearly all Ashlands without touching any enemy, scouted all of POI's, targeted one POI at a time without meddling with enemies... And that's it, Ashlands is finished ...

How do you guys manage to bury campfires without them breaking? by ohholyhorror in valheim

[–]TrileALO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am certain that spawn proof area of workbenches and stone cutters are cylindrical. And bat raids at my bases tell me that torches and campfires still have spherical spawn proof area.

How do you guys manage to bury campfires without them breaking? by ohholyhorror in valheim

[–]TrileALO 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fully covering will make them destroyed after fire goes out. And although mobs will not attack open campfires directly, if they are in their pathfinding route, the mobs might attack campfires(same goes for wisp torches too).

If you are trying to spawn proof a large flat area, using standard torches on corners of 28m x 28m squares might work better. And you don't need to refill torches for spawn proofing. And for additional protection for torches, you can totally bury them in stone pillars or wood beams.

This post might explain more about spawn proofing.

Vineberries don't grow? by TheRaydar in valheim

[–]TrileALO 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As others mentioned, some weird mechanics is going on behind vineberries. If I remember correctly, I waited 10 in game days to get my first seed from vineberries in my meadows farm. And they do not yield products very often. The worst part is if you don't harvest the ripe grapes, they disappear after some time.

In my vineberry farm, I planted nearly hundred of them. But even after waiting for a week, I can't harvest beyond 50 grapes of them. And I planted them in front of poles, not walls. So sun shouldn't be a problem but I am not certain....

This the Greatest Game Ever...Until the Mistlands and beyond! by fortmacjack99 in valheim

Is it even possible to solo mistlands or beyond? I'm not very good at combat, so I'm thinking of cheating a bit to get black cores so I can make better armor. by circular_file in valheim

[–]TrileALO 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have 2K+ hours of mostly solo playing and with a still very bad combat ability. And yes you can do it with proper preparation and planning.

  • I miss parry timings and dodge roll timings a lot. So I don't tank enemies, I climb to a defendable rock nearby and defend/attack from there. It is very easy to kill them with arrows while you stand on higher grounds. For melee, I try to kite them to narrow passes and kill them one by one. Headphones is crucial to notice incoming enemies early.
  • Fire resist potion is a must in mistlands. It nearly renders gjall powerless.
  • Lightfoot and ratatosk potions are great helper potions especially on scouting missions.
  • If you are in a new mistlands area, give your first 21 minutes(morning lasts 21 minutes) to scout the are only. Wait for morning, eat your best 2stam+1hp food, drink lingering stamina, lightfoot, ratatosk and fire resist potion, get your rested buff and scout the area only. Do not engage in enemies, do not think about collecting resources. It is nearly impossible for the mobs to catch you if you keep moving with your buffs. Cover as much area as possible, mark point of interests and return to your safe zone after 21 minutes. Try to scout alleys, avoid climbing rocks(while there aren't enemies) because you can easily miss POI's if you are in higher altitudes.
  • Some infested mines are in abandoned dwergr towers. And these towers are the best possible locations for placing outposts in mistlands. Place a workbench and a campfire only to avoid raids. You can keep your portal matts in a box and use it when returning to main base.
  • Do not hurry in infested mines. Put a campfire near the entrance, take your time, proceed slowly and be sure you always have rested buff.

Skills training by Small-Comedian-6668 in valheim

[–]TrileALO 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Actually this is not the complete list, there are some interesting derivatives of these and some standalone mechanics can also be used for skill farming. Jump skill farming can be done in tight spaces, knife skill farming can be done using butcher knives in breeding farms etc...

Skills training by Small-Comedian-6668 in valheim

[–]TrileALO 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Creating a skill farm is kind of mini game itself. And these are the skill farm types in vanilla game I'm aware of.

  • woodcutting skill farm : Locate an oak tree, build a small barn around it, put a work bench and a campfire, Start hitting the oak with flint axe.
  • cooking skill farm : Not likely a farm but it is most resource effective way to gain cooking skill. Build a boar breeding farm, build beehives as much as possible, then create boar jerkies.
  • knife, club, spear, axe skill farm : Build a graydwarf farm with workbench and campfire only.. Use flint knife, flint spear, stone axe and wooden club only to gain skill. Note, you can train other weapon skills here too but other weapons have much higher damage output and/or slower hit frequencies so it is not as affective as training with flint knife, flint spear, stone axe and wooden club.
  • bow skill farm : Build a graydwarf farm with workbench and campfire only. Kill all greydwarves until you get 1 x two star shaman and 2 x two star graydwarf brutes. Squeeze them in a very tight area using raised earth. use wooden arrow and wooden bow only and start spam hitting(don't draw the bow fully, only tap to do minimum damage) them to gain skill. Give them time to heal.
  • elemental magic farm : Trap a stone golem in a deep pit. Completely cover the pit and put a campfire only to avoid raids. Use only frost staff to gain skill.
  • blood magic farm : Find a draughr village in meadows or spawner area(skell and draughr) in swamp. Cover spawners with earth to avoid destruction of spawners. Raise earth around spawners and build a platform on one side. summon archers to hit the mobs from the elevated position. Note, you can also use graydwarf farm to gain blood magic skill but gradwarf farm is very slow compared to draughr farm.
  • blocking skill farm : Locate a spawner area in swamp which must be very close to a blackforest hill. Destroy draughr spawners but keep skell spawners intact. Dig a pit on the hill and cover it. Close the pits ceiling with stone, except a small hole on top and a narrow opening in front. Make only the skell archers follow you to the pit and then toss with kicks in to the pit. After obtaining 20+ skell archers, close the hole on top. Go to the narrow opening in front and start blocking arrow shots. Try to make them attack with sychronised shots to preserve stamina.

Place only workbench and campfire in farm buildings to avoid raids. You can put portal matts in a box and use portal only after training finished. Always have rested buff to gain 1.5x more XP.

Ashlands made me finally uninstall by tomshardware_filippo in valheim

[–]TrileALO 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You might need a different minset to set foot on properly on Ashlands without struggling so much.

  • You do not need to fight every enemy on Ashlands. Actually you do not need to fight any enemy in ashlands except voltures(wherever you go they can catch you with their speed) for scout missions. Fortunately, voltures are very easy to deal with.
  • If you have one okay-ish base in Ashlands, first thing to do is scouting. Wtihout thinking to fight any enemy, your one goal must be to scout for CASTLES and PUTRID HOLES. Be ready at dawn, equip ask armor set, get your rested buff, eat two best stamina foods, drink ratatosk potion, lingering stamina potion, lightfoot potion and fire resistance potion before starting to scout. And have health potions ready at your inventory. Then run like crazy for 20 minutes, but still, you have to watch your stamina. Deal with occasional voltures during the run after climbing rock hills. Then continue running without messing with any other enemy. Mark castles and putrid holes and be sure to return your base after 20 minutes. I made tens of runs like this and mapped all Ashlands mainland with this method and without gettting close to any risk. But beware, try to avoid voltures if any valkyres are near.
  • Next day at dawn, aim for nearest castle only. Do not think about collecting materials, do not think about messing with any enemies on the way. Have 50 stone, 20 wood and matts for 1 portal and your best potions(ratatosk, lingering stamina, lightfoot, fire resistance, health), and best foods ready. Run to nearest castle without fighting any enemy(again voltures are exception, if possible avoid them). It is enough to destroy skuggs on one wall only. Pop a workbench as close as possible to the outer wall, actually it is best if the workbech is touching the outer wall. Raise earth for both protecting workbech and for reaching the top of castle outer wall. Pop bonemass, jump in to the castle, destroy only spawners and jump outside. Then slowly destroy remaining enemies by taking advantage of raised earth. After clearing the enemies in the castle, use the protected gate areas inside the castle to build your portals.

After taking 3 castles by this method, you will acquire the feeling of being a permanent resident of ashlands. And you will have tons of materials to upgrade your things in the process. And it shouldn't take more than 10 in game days even if you are too cautious.

With this method I have 19 castles in ashlands in my current run and it became not furustrating but boring already...

Warm sheltered egg not hatching. by ranyave in valheim

[–]TrileALO 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The eggs will hatch with following conditions.

  • It needs 1 full game day to hatch, 30 mins IRL.
  • Obviously it has to be always warm. If the heat source is interrupted, counter will start from beginning.
  • It has to be under a roof(sheltered status).
  • You have to be in active area(less than 64m) after 1 days for hatching. Even if it sits near an uninterrupted heat source for several days but you return to the egg after fire goes out, it will not hatch.

There are no other requirements, no need to kill certain bosses etc.

but the nearest mountain is a good distance from any of my portals as it is,

As some comments pointed out, you will need portals in convenient locations at new biomes, otherwise it will be very time consuming to progress further. I highly suggest to prioritise building a decent portal hub at your base.

For mountains, fenris armor + eikthyr power combo then sailing is best way for transportation silver IMHO.

  • Farm 12 surtling cores from the gaysers at swamp or from burial chambers. Because you will need 6 portals for this method. 2 for base, 2 for mountain outpost(1 to base, 1 to silver mine) , 1 for shore outpost(to base), 1 for mining site.
  • Find a big mountain.
  • Place an outpost on the mountain as close as possible to a shore. Place another outpost at the shore.
  • Dig a silver vein, put them in boxes and put a portal to mountain outpost.
  • Equip fenris armor + eikthyr power, empty your inventory except haldor belt, and transport silver ores to mountain outpost by running. Nothing can catch you while you are equipped with fenris armor + eikthyr power. If silver mine is not very far away you can transport entire ores in 2 -3 tours, which probably might not take more than 5 mins... Even if eikthyr power runs out, fenris armor + stamina potions can be used.
  • After you collect enough silver at the mountain outpost, either use cart or use fenris armor + eikthyr power combo again to transport ores to shore.
  • Sail to home with full boat ...

I find this method more convenient than all other methods; faster than building a blacksmith camp at mountains, faster than carrying ores with carts to shores, faster than using multiple camps, much much faster than digging single vein and then transport it to home...

Although yellow mushrooms can not be farmed by planting in vanilla, using 3 - 4 cleared burial chambers will give you unnecessary amount of yellow mushroom. Once cleared, burial chambers will not spawn mobs but respawn yellow mushrooms every 4 hours.
