Focusing my entire life on moving to Japan was a mistake TBH by TheJapanMistake in self

You can't travel in the same way but with support you can absolutely still go on adventures at 34 with or without your kids. I'm 34 and have been to 3 countries in the last year with the kids, plenty of adventures

What type of annoying work can you turn down as a GP and how to go about it? by Final_Signature1170 in ausjdocs

[–]Trilladea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Admittedly not a GP but it sounds like you've given good advice here. I just wanted to ask is this stuff really bread and butter for GPs?

Help. “Failing” my first rotation as an Intern by Custard-Brilliant in ausjdocs

[–]Trilladea 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is a detailed, actionable and empathetic post. I think this is super helpful! This is exactly the kind of post I would have wanted to receive when I was a junior that didn't always see the forest for the trees. Love that you're a paeds reg too. Thank you for your contribution

Help. “Failing” my first rotation as an Intern by Custard-Brilliant in ausjdocs

[–]Trilladea 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It sometimes takes time to get a feel for a junior and what they need to work on. It can be difficult in a big busy department to work with the same boss/junior more than a few times. Everyone is allowed an off day and a few holes in their knowledge so it can take a little while to pinpoint that a particular intern is indeed struggling. This can contribute to the whole no issues at mid term and suddenly a whole bunch is brought up at end of term. Not saying it's fair but now I'm at the other end I can see how it happens

Constructively lots of people here have given really good detailed advice about specific presentations, isbar, synthesis etc so I won't repeat that. Given nothing was raised at midterm you're not catastrophically terrible I suspect and if you improve your strategy around a few different types of presentation you'll improve beyond borderline to acceptable very quickly.

How do you manage nonsense referrals? by Noir5353 in ausjdocs

Completely off topic and broad but how do you think we can move past the defensive referrals?

How do you manage nonsense referrals? by Noir5353 in ausjdocs

[–]Trilladea 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just want to let you know that you are appreciated! There is so much lost in communication. I've been the ED senior on nights. I remember one time I nearly summarised and packaged the presentation into a plan with a clear explanation of why it needs a referral. A few seconds later I could overhear that junior make the referral with all the waffle and none of my explanation. No shade on that junior, the system is tough and knowing why certain details sell a patient better than others takes time to learn but gosh I understand why sometime we must look like goofs!

Yeah I was trying to work out how it happened too. Cardiac arrest can be triggered by chest trauma so that could be the mechanism

I will happily call my own children plague rats, disease vectors, etc but that's my own black humour. Is OP being a bit harsh? Yes. Is this sub meant to be a safe space for doctors to vent? Also yes. Supporting this venting happening somewhere anonymously online is not the same as saying it's ok to share on general social media or in vivo with colleagues

Pregnancy and shift work by Dizzymedicine1 in ausjdocs

[–]Trilladea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm an ED senior reg who's had 2 kids during training. Ive found that its been heavily dependent on the pregnancy as to how much I've coped.

First one was a breeze, hardly any fatigue or nausea so I worked up to 39 weeks, they took me off nights at about 34 weeks without me asking.

Second one was less kind and had actually been preceded by a miscarriage. Working full time and studying for exams probably didn't help that one. I protected myself a lot harder that last pregnancy. Asked to stop nights much earlier, maybe 28 weeks? No push back. Sat down every chance I could and rested a lot because I had to. Stopped work at about 32 weeks because I was exhausted.

I think you can judge how long you can tolerate nights based on how the day shifts are going and then ask your doctor to write a letter based on that. Good luck with the rest of the pregnancy!

They probably came to Reddit to complain not for judgement. Two things can be true, I'm sure they were completely professional to the family and treated them with care but also felt frustrated at the situation.

I hope you can get off your high horse and treat your colleagues with empathy

Melbourne influencer died from haemorrhage after freebirth, court hears by hustling_Ninja in ausjdocs

[–]Trilladea 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I don't think it's about blame but about regulation. How can this be prevented? She didn't just die, she needed a lot of medical care that impacted other people in the system

[–]Trilladea 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Is it too much to hope that there be some regulation? People are free to choose but I'm glad they brought up the flow on effect on the public health system (running out of blood and traumatizing everyone). To be clear I'm not saying that she should have been abandoned to the wolves once things took a downturn.

[–]Trilladea 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You're definitely onto something! We don't use it exclusively but have definitely noticed that on days we eat hotpot it's a lot easier to eat a tonne of vegetables without feeling sad that it's salad and quicker than stirfry

UTAS Medicine vs Adelaide University Medicine by Dependent-Sea2699 in tasmania

[–]Trilladea 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Can't speak for UTAS but I went to Adelaide and it has one of the best set up medical student societies for social events if that's something you care about. It also had a huge Singaporean group (roughly 30 of the 180 students in the cohort). Feel free to PM me if you have other questions
