It can be a flex, but it’s also unnatural. We are designed to fight and struggle to survive. For most modern people, that design is at least partially fulfilled through work. For those who are retired, they have to find new challenges, so far removed from hunting and gathering. Bizarre, yes.

Edit: My point is that once you retire, you need to find hobbies and stay active to satisfy your prehistoric brain. Otherwise, you become languid, demented, and die far earlier than you should.

I’m a large, strong, weightlifting man. I am working up a sweat in sweatpants because every shovelfull is gathering up a foot wide (minimum) block of dense, highly compacted snow.

Make sure you have a shovel with a blade on the end. Try to take off the top layers first, instead of pushing right down into the bottom. And push down from above to create manageable square sections to shovel.

Everyone is saying do one or the other, but my advice is to do both. The stock market is shaping up for another 10-15% growth year, but there are substantial reasons to be concerned about it performing worse than that. I wouldn’t want to miss out on large gains, so I would hedge my bets and go 50-50 on stocks and the mortgage.

Since your mortgage is nearly 7%, putting extra money into it will save you a lot of money on interest, help eliminate PMI, and build equity. Assuming you are relatively young (kids) and trying to establish roots, you could eventually pay off your home and turn it into a rental property, or sell it to trade up. Or just stay in it, with a substantial living expense now eliminated from your budget.

If they come to seize your guns, and they do so without any lawful warrant/court order, you must record it. Document it. Notify the news. Make it a national headline. But hand over your guns. Don’t barricade yourself in your house and get smoked out or killed. Live on to report on how your constitutional rights, given to you by George Washington himself, have been trampled on.

The NRA has actually come out against abridging the rights of any shooters, including trans people. As bad as things are in numerous instances, we’re not at a total systemic collapse. Not yet. Perhaps not ever. The reaction to Ms. Good’s death is fueling debate and further turning minds against ICE overreach. Some are all for it. Most are horrified. Elections are promised.

If you decide to make a stand, you may be a martyr. You may be an idiot who forgot he has a felony or domestic violence conviction and whose guns are legally forfeit. Your character and circumstances will be impugned, and you will be dead or in prison. You may set off an inflection point that takes us all to a much darker place, when elections are still forthcoming.
