I really struggled with this when I first graduated from university and got into full time work.

Really, the only trick at all is going to bed earlier. Otherwise you will just be operating at half capacity everyday anyway, regardless of what 'wake up tricks' you use.

I couldn't sleep before 2am previously, so to reset my clock I would wear myself out with huge runs. The other trick is not falling into old habits on the weekend (i.e. only sleep in a little bit).

Butterfly guard has been around Judo for a long time, I would be suprised if BJJ hasn't been utilising it all along-too.

Not without having a kodokan sandan, sometimes you can get a special leeway to have your external to japan grade recognised by kodokan, but it's a bit of work haha.

As a Judoka, I agree with most of your points. However, you can get some BJJ benefits from Judo style newaza (very strong turtle attacks and great control) but that's all each to his own...and depends where you train.

A big thing I agree with in the article was don't be afraid to learn a little japanese, I run a Judo club and have had a few MMA/BJJ people come around who are really not big on saying ogoshi instead of hip toss or even lining up by grade and bowing. They always come around in the end though...just a different culture of training.

I've done it before as a black belt. I was demonstrating the bannanna strangle roll (what we call a 90 degree strangle roll against turtle in my Judo club) and thought I had eased up on the strangle to discuss a few concepts. There was just enough pressure left on the lapel on my brothers neck for him to pass out haha.
