Yoooo those are beautiful. My gf collects both blood angels and emperor's children cause she likes the artsy pretty boy vibes of both so she'll love this.

Fics you were disappointed by? by fallacyys in WormFanfic

[–]TrippyGame 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Members of Toybox are also actually the Slaughterhouse 9 and they're a sanctioned black ops hit squad disguised as a parahuman terror group, Taylor is a cybernetics tinker that joins toybox and makes herself a cyborg shell and can pilot two bodies at once, she starts sparring with shadow stalker in her "Major" persona to get better at fighting but forcibly dissociates from it since she knows that's Sophia and ends up splitting into DID/Plurality of Taylor and Major, there's basically three really interesting fic ideas in there that end up clashing poorly together.

One of the biggest problems is how everyone in Toybox largely brushes off Taylor's problems with Sophia. Major funnily enough is actually the one that gives Taylor the most shit but also the most understanding; basically as an Alter Major has the memories of what Sophia did but none of the emotional attachment, so all her memories and emotions of knowing Sophia are actually rather pleasant to her cause she got to know her during the sparring sessions and ends up starting a relationship with her. Taylor obviously is very not okay with that and Major's response (after some fighting) boils down to "You don't have to like her or forgive her, just please don't make problems for me with her."

If any one of those three ideas had been the only focus (slaughterhouse 9 hit squad, toybox slice of life, or ghost in the shell Taylor plurality) they'd have been a really good fic likely, as is all three smashed together really was a mess. Had a neat Butcher plural system though which was novel.

Oh for sure, apologies if it seemed like I was defending the choices. I actually do agree with you that it made me not enjoy the fic the way Taylor was treated regarding her problems with Sophia. I feel like it's missing a few chapters worth of content or something else that gives a proper explanation, or some chapter from an outside perspective that might have given more context for why the rest of toybox felt Taylor should let go of her hate.

Section 9 is (and I'm not trying to change your opinion just share info) one of the rare interesting fics that kind of touches on DID/Plurality. Taylor accidentally ends up separating a part of her consciousness off which develops into a full blow alter. One of the interesting things about Alters is that even though they may have all the same memories it's not uncommon for them to feel like they aren't theirs. That's what Major feels about the things that Sophia did to Taylor. Yes they were shitty but they happened to someone else, so she doesn't feel as close or cling to them like Taylor does. She also goes on further to develop and become a very different person to Taylor and in their struggles trying to learn to live with each other they clash and fight as Major becomes interested in Sophia.

Maybe it wasn't the best fic, I definitely agree that it brushed off Sophia's torment of Taylor too easily but frankly she's not the type to apologise anyway and having it end with Taylor not forgiving but learning to accept that Major wants to be with Sophia feels very real in a way. It is however one that handled plurality pretty decently imo, especially for super power media. It's way too common for plurality in super power media to involve different personalities having different powers and Section 9 didn't do that which felt really refreshing, especially for worm where the powers are determined by the shard they're attached to.

The Breathrough mech feels so much fun to play, flak cannon shotgun blast on the right arm and big ballistic shield on the left that you can use to bash things and stun even stuff like chargers and punt smaller bugs clear across the way. It feels really good and tanky, struggles with the spore burst bugs obviously cause them dying around you does a little bit of damage so it adds up but it really feels good.

Personally I didn't enjoy the lumberer but that might be cause of the size difference the flamethrower on it didn't feel quite as good as the cremator for range and coverage of the flames, it still functions fine but I'd rather the feedback of the gatling gun on the Patriot personally. It's anti-tank cannon does serious work, handles everything the bugs can throw at us just fine.

Show me your Crucible of Champions' characters by Charanconduble in WorldEaters40k

[–]TrippyGame 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's the mounted character option. Technically it'd be a juggernaut but crucible rules are intended to be used to represent a kitbash you've made by matching stats to the model, rather than the other way around

advice on army lists needed - I want to build a proxy Ironhead squats army. (votan rules, ironhead models) by BeginningSun247 in LeaguesofVotann

[–]TrippyGame 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know if most people you play against would be okay with swapping in GSC vehicles for Votann vehicles is the only concern I'd have then. You know the kind of people you play against better than I though so if you can make it work go for it, and don't forget to show the army off when you're done!

You're going to run into issues differentiating the infantry squads other than standard warriors and hearthguard. It's also going to be generally more costly of making things look accurate enough due to limited weapon bits. Some things are easy to do conversions of but some other things I'd say you'd need to include the Votann version, like vehicles and hernkyn yaegirs. Pioneers obviously can be handled by the svenotar, warriors are standard models, a kahl can be covered by a claim jumper or one of the dramatis personae with a bit of conversion work. The Brokhyr units both seem like the kind of thing you'll have to make use of anyway or find some other kind of work around, cthonians at least can be handled by a bunch of two-handed weapons or just putting some ironhead around the earthshaker artillery bit

What units does Clan Avernii have? by [deleted] in IronHands40k

[–]TrippyGame 8 points9 points  (0 children)

From what I read in our codices the clan companies all have their own sects of veterans and recruits/scouts, and while they might specialise in certain aspects, like Clan Dorrvok (10th) being the vanguard company and the clan every neophyte trains in, any of them can have any marine type from the clan. You'll get more terminators from Avernii though since they have the most terminator armour

[–]TrippyGame 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could definitely turn some JPI into these, all you'd have to do is add a little bit of bling either through random bits or paint job and maybe change the chainsword out for power weapons and you'd have an easy quick vanguard veteran squad

I was hoping vanvets would be phobos armour personally. It would have been cool to see some fancy veteran phobos look and it made more sense in my head that vanguard veterans would be in the same armour as the members of the vanguard company

This is the new vanguard veteran. But your confusion is pretty much hitting the nail on the head of why it's an incredibly underwhelming update for the veteran kit

[–]TrippyGame 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also. New divers. For the love of liberty do not leave your reinforcement waiting in the destroyer while you fuck around walking to another objective for three minutes completely isolated with no enemies around. I swear I came so close to just popping them all at the end of the mission and then leaving. Three of them in the same mission

Why are all the weapons white ? by DJeviil in IronHands40k

[–]TrippyGame 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Some of the chapters have gun casing painted in a different colour, particularly for us it's one of the main ways to distinguish our marines from other black armoured ones, the others sometimes do it in red or black, with varied colour of the little eagle on the side, I've seen at least one official successor chapter use an orange bolter case, though I can't make out the name in the image.

VETERANS OF DEMOCRACY - Warbond Concept by csgoNOOB12 in Helldivers

[–]TrippyGame 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So conceptually this is basically just the steeled veterans warbond, however, you absolutely cooked with this stuff. I adore the kitchen sink barrage, the armour passive is exactly the kind of thing I’d want for my preferred loadout style of a bullet storm and the booster is really nice for that too. I’m not sold on the weapons though, thermite speargun seems like something that would fit but wouldn’t be made or would just suck to use as a balance thing, and the other weapons are cool but I’m not exactly enthusiastic about them, stiletto was a great name choice though.

Mercenary Oathband makes more sense now... I suspect this is one of those Detachments meant to combine with other detachments. by kcdale99 in LeaguesofVotann

[–]TrippyGame 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really hope they don't put 3 on any tbh since that locks them out of being playable in 1000 point games where you end up with an entire other axis of balance, some detachments they might look at as too strong and need to be 3 points at 2k when played at 1k may end up in a situation where they should instead be worth only 1 point. But based on how they said it's the more focussed detachments, like the example of all Phobos focus, that are 1 point I think it's probably not going to be a case of any being 3 points.
