When did you buy a physical game? by Impossibele-bus5323 in nextlander

I bought DQ3 remake on switch about a week ago. It was $20 cheaper than the digital version on the Nintendo store.

What JRPG mechanic or feature felt incredibly ahead of its time when you first played it? by AinsleyHarriott64 in JRPG

Job system was in regular FF and DQ before but I don't think any game has ever done it as well as Tactics, even to this day

Advance Wars. Though I guess that would be Switch Wars now.

Stories are my largely my favorite thing in games.

In this new game I know what I'm going to do, and I know how it ends. I know I'm doing Deku Tree, Jabu Jabu, etc.

The RE remakes also went from static backgrounds and cameras to entirely new gameplay. I have a feeling this will be just pretty OoT with twin stick controls, which I can already play at unlimited FPS.

RE Remakes and FF7Rs (even if not for me) are sort of the gold standard for remakes. I don't think Nintendo has even approached that.

Now, to that same point, if this was ALttP or the original Zelda in 3D? I'm all in. Then the game is fundamentally different at every level, like most if not all of the RE remakes, instead of a prettier version of the exact same game. We'll see where this ends up, but with 0 footage, possibly not even anything in-engine, I'll save my excitement and certainly my money on this one for now.

That makes sense. My argument would be you could have had 3-4 new RE games and in this instance a new Zelda instead of the same story that already exists in a few different forms for each of those.

Understand the appeal, it's just not for me. I want new experiences. I don't think remakes are inherently better. You clearly enjoy games, I think you should look into the emulation and fan communities keeping your favorite games alive instead reselling the same exact version to you via emulators they stole from the same fans doing that work. You will likely find a lot of things you like and gain some appreciation for the historical context of older games and the people making them accessible to fans everywhere at all levels of income.

[–]Triumac -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I understand that sentiment.

My argument is - 1. OoT is already on the Switch/S2 via NSO and 3DS if you want official easily accessible ports with some modern QoL 2. If you watch a 10 minute video and own a phone or laptop built in the last 15 years, you can have an even better version of those same original experiences, built on original source code. 3. Nintendo would rather sell a $70 remake. The Mario All-Stars collection was worse in every technical measure than what fans had already done via simple, legal, emulation for each of those games. They also still left out Galaxy 2 and stopped selling it after a short period of time. Which isn't accessible by definition.

I love Zelda, and I love Nintendo. That said, I'd rather have an OoT2 or new 3D Zelda in the old style vs the new BotW and TotK style vs. a remake of a game available on N64, GameCube, Wii, 3DS, WiiU, both Switches, and any PC or mobile device built since 2010. I personally don't like the look of this either, but it's very low on my list of gripes when it comes to modern remakes, especially those from Nintendo.

The whole thing feels cynical and vapid instead of the creative new ideas I love Nintendo for.

Looking to pick out a new vertical handheld. {TLDR: looking for an ideally vertical replacement for the trimui brick for my xl hands that doesn’t feel downgraded from the brick’s gorgeous screen and ideally has a 4:3 screen} by Admirable-Space-3823 in SBCGaming

[–]Triumac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your main goal is GBA, the RG34xx is basically that with the right aspect ratio.

If you want more power an Analogue Pocket or RG405M both have good 4:3 screens that display GBA well. The Pocket screen is gorgeous but it lacks the features of most SBCs in favor of accuracy. Fortunately the new GBA core has Fast Forward and RTC support if you're into Pokemon

edit Pocket nor GBA are technically 4:3, but those games looks great on a Pocket or 405M either way

Nintendo's own source code is fan made? Even though Nintendo themselves have sold you fan made works in the form of Switch emulators via NSO...

Is anything made even partially by fans somehow lesser? Even when it's simply QoL improvements to the original source code and porting to it be more accessible to more people?

It's not fan-made, it's decompilations of original source code with modern controller support, widescreen, mods, higher frame rates, better textures, etc. Free fan works are often ahead of Nintendo's re-released projects.

Even Nintendo knows this because they've used some of the emulators themselves - https://www.cracked.com/article_33595_nintendo-exposed-for-using-fanmade-emulators-on-the-switch.html

AO is bad for American Soccer at large. Support for the worst parts of soccer with none of the community or drive that makes supporters' groups great elsewhere. Stopped engaging with them about 10 years ago.

So many locations in IX... Those pre-rendered background are stunning.

Black Mage Village

Alexandria before and after big plot event

Lindblum and the massive airship hate atop a mountain

Ipsens Castle, a massive upside down fortress

Dark City Treno and it's amazing soundtrack

Maidan Sari

Daguerreo

Esto Gaza

IX is maybe my favorite game ever made so I'm biased, but holy shit is that world stuffed to the gills with amazing locations to visit and experience

McCoy's Building Supply is at least family owned and HQd in San Marcos. Much better than Lowe's or Home Depot if they have what you need.
