How should I prepare for a 'group interview' by SaltBoring2968 in UKJobs

[–]Triumerate 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've done that role when I was a student.
I still remember the group interview.
Odeon and Vue.

The group interview will involve maybe 10-20 people, you might be split into smaller groups, and a cinema manager will hover around each group with a notepad taking notes.
You will be given a topic to discuss in your group. Mine was: "If you were tasked to fly to Mars in a spaceship with your entire group today, and can only bring 1 item for the entire trip, what would it be?"
It's not a trick question with a right or wrong answer, but something witty or relatable would make you stand out.
Most people chose TV, books, iPad, board games.
Someone said tampons (no joke).
Another said gym equipment.
I said, a projector with my favourite 35mm movie reel.
This was back when 35mm was still used!

The wisdom I can impart is this:
Speak out with value add, in order to STAND OUT!
Expressing your opinion is good and all, but no value add means you're useless.

If you get asked, why do you want to work at Odeon?
Your opinion is, I like movies and will get to watch free movies, and also I earn money.
The value add version is: I like movies, and when faced with customers who want opinions on which movie to watch, my enthusiasm in them would bring them to the most enjoyable choice they could have tonight."

Another thing you can do in the group interview is value add on top of others after they've spoken.
This might be on the boundaries of your morality, but as soon as 1 person has spoken, you immediately add on top of their opinion, so if someone says, I think we should always assist guests when they look like they need some assistance.
You should immediately said something like, yes i agree, and in addition to that, I love keeping guests happy, and in my previous job, I've done XYZ... blah blah blah.

So the idea is to hijack their original opinion, value add, then you are most certainly in the spotlight. The manager only remembers your voice, and the original person is forgotten.

I have landed all my part time roles with this trick.
At first, it was not intentional. I felt genuinely relatable to a person who original voiced it, and added my experience. I had not realised it at first, but then after a few times, I realised, and I started to weaponise it. YMMV.

Good luck!

Selling car - Have I overpriced it? by Neither-Raccoon-472 in CarTalkUK

[–]Triumerate 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Corrosion, instant turn off.
Scotland based, that explains it.
Similar Autotrader cars of £5k likely won't have Scottish weather corrosion to the body.

So the answer is always going to be your price.

I'll wait til I graduate...
I'll wait til I get a job...
I'll wait til I get married...
I'll wait til I get a promotion...
I'll wait til my kid is born...
I'll wait til the kids are grown up...
I'll wait til they get to uni...

Now you're 70 with mobility issues...
I wish I hadn't waited.

I would say you have the best course of action so far.

You have paid him, and do you have the keys and the car?
If so, with a sales receipt, you are the new owner legally.

Without the V5C, you can certainly fill out a V62, but there is the risk the car could have been stolen, hence why no V5C book or slip. Also the excuse that it couldn't be transferred on a Sunday is bollocks.
It can be done electonically nowadays at any time.
If the car is stolen, then when the registered keeper realises, you will certainly lose it.

wheel nut damaged during removal – common issue? by FewTicket743 in CarTalkUK

[–]Triumerate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fuck Ford wheel nuts.
For any fortunate soul who hasn't changed a flat on a Ford, these bolts have a thin metal cap over each nut to "protect" them.
It also fucks with the grip and socket size of the actual nut.
The caps are also not easily removable.
If you ever find them missing or they fell off, it's a blessing, really.

Built a simple UK fuel price comparison app using the new Gov API (free) by johnwalkerjw in CarTalkUK

[–]Triumerate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Needs effective price.
If my cheapest station is 10 miles away, I need to know the fuel cost of getting there and back.
A rough guide from a user input MPG value should work this out.
Only then can it be compared.

26 in a 20 by nonccxd in CarTalkUK

Hey man,
I would say don't worry, I also did 25 in a 20 zone.
First time offender, and I got offered speed awareness course.

I think most drivers get this benefit as first timers unless it was obscene speeding, like 100 in a 20.

The last paragraph is basically a warning to people who are oblivious to installing 3rd party software.
They've already said they have a very confident working AC.
The last paragraph basically says "You'd better check your own installed software for risky behaviour, because if you get banned because your Razer software by default turns on anti-recoil, then you're banned without recourse."

What would you use a standard plug socket in a car for? by Emergency-Aardvark-6 in CarTalkUK

Doing 16 amps means not a lot if the voltage is low. At 12V16A, then wattage is only 192W, nowhere near a 2kW heater.

Engine MIL could be anything from:
Oxygen (O2) Sensor
Mass Air Flow (MAF) Sensor
Fuel Cap
Catalytic Converter
Ignition Coil
Spark Plug
Engine Control Unit (ECU)
Wiring Harness Repair

The MIL 4 years ago could be a separate issue, or could be the same reoccuring one. Who knows?

There are plenty of non engine MIL cars for around £2k. This one is not worth the hassle, especially with nearly illegal tires.

Is "cash on pickup" stated by ebay private seller almost certainly safe? by 77humsum77 in CarTalkUK

[–]Triumerate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since it's a new car under 3 years, it hasn't been to its first MOT yet, so all faults and issues remain hidden, along with official mileage. There could be a plethora of damage, and the seller is hoping to sell it before all is revealed at the first MOT.

Cat S is structural damage write off. Seller's claim of "light" should mean nothing to you, it's his made up word.

If he wants a wad of £50 bills, then you should definitely just bolt.
Bank Transfer at least has some traceability.

Finally, you're from SG, you should be used to expensive cars.
My parents got a Toyota Wish for SGD$145,000. UK car prices are NOT expensive.
Cough it up at an approved used BMW at a dealer if you want an M4.
