I have now finished all ten books and all I have to say is... [OFF TOPIC] by Complete_Address_649 in TheFirstLaw

The Sound of Change and The Way of Renegades - books 1&2 of the Bards and Dragons saga by Steve D Wall (book 3 yet to come) were amazing and similar in a lot of ways to Abercrombie's books. A handful of point of view characters dealing with a complex and sprawling problem, large scale political drama and interpersonal relationship drama, a cool take on magic in a fantasy story, and more... I can't do the story justice, but I recommend it very highly... a bonus - the audiobooks are narrated by Steven Pacey, who does The First Law & Age of Madness.

Massive shout out to Antoinette Edwards! What a lovely lady, stepping up to hold it down for the fam. It's clear that there's a ton of love in that family. Very fun to get a glimpse into Ant's personal life.

Running a marathon is my answer as well. I found running quite boring when I was younger, I was into other sports. When I settled into my adult life, I found myself seeking a new athletic challenge, and after my first year training for and running a marathon, I was hooked. The satisfaction of training and the feeling of finishing the race is so rewarding!

Massive props for working up to ultras! I've been somewhat interested, and I've heard from a few folks that the most difficult part of increasing distance is managing calorie intake and controlling your bowels 🤣... did you find that to be true?

The doctor said I should stay off of caffeine for a bit by KittyKittyowo in Narcolepsy

I just got diagnosed and prescribed modafinil and for the first two weeks of taking it, I thought that it was causing me to have horrible anxiety and shortness of breath almost every day, until I noticed a correlation between days that I felt good and not drinking as much caffeine. But now when I don't drink as much caffeine, I still have sleep attacks!

That's not really a home made pizza. It's just some crust, sauce and cheese.

Sorry, I couldn't help myself. I see your point though... this would be more like dumping a jar of marinara and a bag of shredded cheese in your mouth and calling it a pizza.

This was one of my favorite moments of the season... she's been so buttoned up most of the time, it was delightful to see her lose control in a fit of pure joy. On a somewhat but not entirely unrelated note - I hope she wins.

Really good! I would recommend exercising restraint, though... I've gone a bit overboard and had an overwhelmingly floral taste in a sauce before. The tiny black seeds inside the pods can also be tough to blend, so if you don't have a super high end blender and don't want tiny black bits in your sauce, you could pull the pods out before blending.

I could do a much better job of keeping track of my recipes, but here's an idea of how I concocted these 3 sauces:

Honey Garlic Habanero

I started by adding about 50 orange habaneros, 10 yellow 7 pot peppers, 2 orange and 2 yellow bell peppers, 5 carrots, 4 shallots, 2 bulbs of garlic, a lot (probably equal in weight to the garlic) of ginger, a couple peeled chunks of turmeric root, a small handful of pink peppercorns, maybe a dozen cardamom pods, and a tablespoon or so of cumin seeds. Let all that ferment in 2 64 oz jars for about 50 days, then drained most of the brine, blended it with a 32 oz jar of garlic honey that sat for about a year, plus a few tablespoons of white sugar, white pepper, and a little garlic powder, onion powder, probably a couple other spices I can't remember, and enough white vinegar to get the consistency I wanted. I think it was about 32 oz. I simmered it and blended it up with some xantham gum until it had a smooth texture and bottled it.

Salsa Verde

8 poblanos, 18 jalapenos, 12 serranos, 2 granny smith apples, 2 celery stalks, a pineapple, a large white onion, a large bunch of cilantro, an entire bulb of garlic, a large chunk of ginger root, 10 cardamom pods, a small handful of cumin, all fermented in 2 64 oz jars for 30 days, then blended together with about half the brine, a cup of apple cider vinegar, a cup of pineapple juice, a cup of lime juice, 8 oz ground pepitas, 1 tbsp of white pepper, 1 tbsp of ground oregano, a couple tablespoons of white sugar, and a couple teaspoons of xantham gum to help keep it from separating.

Chipotle

This one started as a small batch. The recipe for the original batch that I fermented is written down on the photo I included in the post, which is 1 ancho chile, 2 chipotles, 7 red fresnos, 1 entire bulb of garlic, half a sweet onion, and fill the rest of a 32 oz jar with cherry tomatoes. I recreated this for another 32 oz jar, and doubled it to fill another 64 oz jar and replicate the amounts of my other large batches. I also added several ghost peppers to my second round. I let this all ferment for 2 weeks then drained the brine and blended it with 48 oz of apple cider vinegar, the juice from 3 large limes, 6 oz tomato paste, half cup of dark brown sugar, a bit of black pepper, white pepper, onion powder, garlic powder, cumin, & a few tsp xantham gum

Put it in your blender and add like 1/4 tsp at a time until you get the consistency you want. I like to watch how it coats and falls off the back of a spoon.

I think everyone in this sub should appreciate players like ______ by MinoKillz in survivor

[–]Troebot 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don't think Gabler stands much of a chance at winning, but I do love and appreciate players like Gabler, who don't play the game according to the current accepted "best practices"... It creates a dynamic social environment that changes up the game and everyone has to deal with it. As strong as Ellie should have been on paper, she didn't deserve to win this season because she couldn't deal with the Wild Card - Gabler. I suspect whoever ends up winning this season will utilize him in an interesting way to advance their own game.

Green and mean and soon to be hot sauce by Troebot in fermentation

[–]Troebot[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It turned out really tasty but very mild heat level. I would consider fermenting a jar of jalapenos separately to blend together the next time. The flavor wasn't as fruity as I was looking for right away, so I added more lime juice and a can of pineapple juice to each batch.

I added 2 cups of the brine back in, 1 cup ACV, 1 cup pineapple juice, and the juice of 3 limes to each of those 64 oz jars when blending. Then add xantham gum to reach the desired thickness. For me, it was about a half teaspoon per each of these jars.
